Cody Hodgson could be a fit as Nashville's third-line center this season.
He may play between Kevin Fiala and Calle Jarnkrok, but Viktor Arvidsson, Steve Moses and Austin Watson are expected to battle for roster spots this year as well. Hodgson had 20 goals and 44 points in 2013-14, but last campaign he posted just 13 points. He should have a chip on his shoulder after he was bought out by the Buffalo Sabres. Aug 17 - 9:59 PM

Cody Hodgson described his 2014-15 campaign as a "disaster of a season by all accounts."

Hodgson had just six goals and 13 points in 78 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season. That led to Buffalo buying out the final four seasons of his six-year, $25.5 million deal. Hodgson signed a far more modest one-year, $1.05 million contract with Nashville in the hopes of bouncing back. He can look to what Mike Ribeiro did as inspiration as Ribeiro joined the Predators under similar circumstances for 2014-15 and enjoyed a comeback season. "Hopefully, I can do what he did. It's a new opportunity for me like it was for him," said Hodgson.

Cody Hodgson has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

He had four seasons and $19 million remaining on his six-year contract, so the buyout will cost the Sabres $6.33 million if he goes unclaimed. Hodgson notched just six goals and seven assists in 78 games last year. He was eager to bounce back, but now he'll have to do that somewhere else.

The Buffalo Sabres haven't come to a decision regarding Cody Hodgson.

The NHL buyout period opened this week and runs through June 30, but so far the Sabres have made no move to buy out Hodgson. It sounds like that shouldn't be taken as an indication that they won't though, just that they're still weighing their options. He comes with an $4,250,000 annual cap hit through 2018-19.
Jun 19 - 9:40 AM

Buffalo Sabres GM Tim Murray noted that Cody Hodgson may be bought-out before long.

After scoring just 15 points in 78 games in 2014-15 while dinging the cap at $4.25 million, it's no surprise that Hodgson is on the proverbial hot seat. Murray went on to state that he told Hodgson that he needs to "improve his skating and needs to be in better condition." And to his credit, "Hodgson is in Sweden trying to become a better skater." His agent former NHLer Claude Lemieux has been sending video back of his improvement as well. Over his first four seasons in Buffalo, Hodgson, still just 25 years old, has registered 44 goals and 99 points over 218 games. He has four seasons and $19 million in salary remaining on his contract.
Jun 11 - 6:32 PM

Cody Hodgson produced a mere six goals and 13 points in 78 games in 2014-15.

"This is by far the worst year I've had statistically in my whole life, not just in the National Hockey League," Hodgson said. "Individually, as a team, it just wasn't a success. That's tough on everybody and takes a toll on you throughout the year." He finished with the fewest shots per game of his career (1.6) and was dropped down the depth chart by former coach Ted Nolan. He wants to be part of Buffalo's rebuild and perhaps with some new players as well as a fresh start with another coach will help him bounce back next year.
Apr 15 - 10:50 AM

Cody Hodgson had a team-leading six shots while skating on the fourth line on Saturday.

"Schaller and Ellis are a little bit more defensively oriented guys, and Cody could just kind of concentrate on offense, which he did," coach Ted Nolan said. "I thought that was one of his better offensive attacks all season." Hodgson posted a plus-1 rating in the match, but he hasn't picked up a point in his last six games and he has one goal in his past 12 outings. He has generated just 12 points in 71 games this season.
Mar 30 - 10:43 AM

Although Cody Hodgson is playing slightly better as of late, the 2014-15 season is a lost one for the 25-year-old.

Despite his improvement, Hodgson has scored only four goals and registered a mere 11 points in 63 games and is now playing on the Sabres' fourth line with Tim Schaller and Nic Deslauriers. If for some reason you haven't dropped Hodgson, do it now as there must be someone better on the waiver wire.
Mar 14 - 8:43 AM

Cody Hodgson scored a goal and an assist on Saturday, but the Buffalo Sabres still lost 5-3 to the Florida Panthers.

Hodgson has had a disastrous season, but he has three points in as many games. The Sabres have to hope that the 2014-15 campaign won't end up being too damaging to his development process.
Feb 28 - 5:52 PM

Cody Hodgson generated just his third goal of 2014-15 in Tuesday's win against Columbus.

He opened the scoring in the contest. Hodgson has seen his role and ice time shrink dramatically this season. He saw just 10:26 of action versus the Blue Jackets and recorded three shots on goal, while slating on the fourth line.
Feb 25 - 10:54 AM

Cody Hodgson skated on Buffalo's fourth line in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Philadelphia.

"Cody was a little bit better," said coach Ted Nolan, who made Hodgson a healthy scratch for Buffalo's previous two games. "Like I said, we'll take what we can get right now and hopefully get better and better and see how it goes." He had three shots and a minus-1 rating in 6:04 of action in the match.
Feb 16 - 8:46 AM

Cody Hodgson will probably be back in the lineup on Sunday.

The Sabres traded Drew Stafford to Winnipeg as part of the Evander Kane deal, which opens a roster spot. Kane is done for the year following shoulder surgery, so Hodgson should get back in after being a healthy scratch for the past two games.
Feb 13 - 8:46 AM

Cody Hodgson and Andre Benoit will be scratched against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

The once promising center is just a week shy of his 25th birthday and has just two goals and eight points through 51 games this season. For what it's worth, the defensive defenseman Benoit has a goal and six points through 35 games. It's hard to accumulate much value when you don't compare favorably to a defenseman who averages less than a shot per game.
Feb 10 - 6:38 PM

Coach Ted Nolan is running out of options, but he hasn't given up on Cody Hodgson.

"I don't believe anybody's a lost cause," Nolan said. "It's just not working, for whatever reason. When you go through that you've got to do your own soul searching and find out what makes you work and fit in. ... You've got to find a way yourself. That's what I told our team. There aren't too many times people are going to come in and save you. You've got to find your own solutions." Hodgson has been scratched three times, his ice time and role on the depth chart has been reduced and he's had meeting with the coaches to go over his game. Nothing has helped him shake out of what has been a dismal season and he should be avoided until he shows some of the form he did last year when he had 20 goals and 44 points in 72 games.
Feb 9 - 10:29 AM

Cody Hodgson will be a healthy scratch in Sunday's game against the Islanders.

Marcus Foligno (hand) is ready to make a return to the lineup and Hodgson will sit in his place. Hodgson has been abysmal this season. The 24-year-old has just two goals, eight points and a minus-20 rating in 51 games this season.
