Cody Hodgson has registered just two goals and seven points in 46 games this season.
He has been bumped out of Buffalo's top-six forward group and he's logged well under 10 minutes of ice time in his past two outings. Last season, Hodgson ranked second on the Sabres with 20 goals and he led the team with 44 points in 72 games. Perhaps, he can salvage something in the second half, but right now he isn't worth rostering. Jan 22 - 10:40 AM

Cody Hodgson was benched in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Winnipeg.

He lost a faceoff on the power play and got beat down the ice on a shorthanded tally by Michael Frolik. The goal gave the Jets a 2-1 lead and plenty of momentum. Hodgson had an assist in 4:55 of playing time before Frolik's goal, but he didn't get a shift after the Sabres lost the lead.

Cody Hodgson ended his 19-game goalless drought in Saturday's win over Florida.

Hodgson hadn't scored since October 25th against the San Jose Sharks. The 24-year-old was a healthy scratch in Buffalo's previous game against Calgary. "It just feels nice to be back out with the boys and help contribute," said Hodgson after the game. He has just two goals, four points and an ugly minus-10 rating in 29 games this season.

Look for Cody Hodgson to get out of the press box on Saturday.

Hodgson was a healthy scratch for Thursday's contest. Cody McCormick (undisclosed) is projected to miss Saturday's game, so the Sabres can insert Hodgson into the lineup without making someone else a healthy scratch. Look for Hodgson to play alongside Chris Stewart and Patrick Kaleta.

Cody Hodgson is expected to be a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against Calgary.

Hodgson has had a horrible season so far. The 24-year-old has one goal and three points in 28 games this season. "Sometimes you overwork too and you over-think. Cody’s a real good player," head coach Ted Nolan said. "He’s got some really good hands and he can score some goals, but unfortunately they’re not happening right now. So sometimes it’s good to sit back and look at it from a different perspective. … Maybe a game watching will get him out of that funk." Chris Stewart, who was a healthy scratch in Buffalo's last game, will take Hodgson's spot in the lineup.

Coach Ted Nolan is hoping that Cody Hodgson gets some confidence after he scored the game winner in Tuesday's shootout victory over Tampa Bay.

"You have to be optimistic at all times," Nolan said. "He scored 20 goals for us last year. What's the difference this year? Those areas goal scorers have to go into. ... Cody is getting closer to going into those areas and he's getting some chances. Hopefully that goal last night will give him a good taste of what it's like to score goals again." He has recorded one goal and one assist in 25 games this campaign. Hodgson hasn't registered a regulation or overtime point since Oct. 25, which has amounted to a 16-game pointless drought.

Cody Hodgson missed practice on Thursday for personal reasons.

"He'll be back," coach Ted Nolan said. "He went home for some personal reasons." We'll keep him active and will let you know if his status for Friday's contest changes.

Ted Nolan said he was encoraged by the play of Cody Hodgson in the Sabres' last two games.

He feels the disappointing forward has played better recently. Hodgson was centering Drew Stafford and Nicolas Deslauriers in practice Friday and may be finally turning the corner after a brutal first quarter of the season which saw him register a mere two points.

Buffalo Sabres forward Cody Hodgson doesn't seem oblivious to how disappointing his season has been so far.

"Obviously, I need to be better," Hodgson said before Saturday's big win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. "That’s the first thing. If you’re producing on the ice, then you’re going to get more ice time. There’s not a better way to look at it than that. If I play better, then I’m going to play more."

We wouldn't be shocked if Cody Hodgson was a healthy scratch Saturday night against the Maple Leafs.

If Buffalo coach Ted Nolan wants to send a message to the struggling Hodgson, sitting him against the Leafs would be a bold idea. Hodgson, who has registered only two points in 18 games and has a terrible minus 10 plus/minus rating, grew up in Toronto and missing Saturday's contest would certainly bother him. Considering Hodgson only had 7:53 of ice time Thursday night against Minnesota, he's already been semi-scratched. Marcus Foligno is due back from injury and one of Hodgson, Chris Stewart or Tyler Ennis (who is a little banged up) will likely sit out to make room on the roster for Foligno's return.

Cody Hodgson will be back at center on the Sabres' second line against the Penguins Saturday night.

He has been moved from wing to center and back a number of times as Buffalo coach Ted Nolan tries to light a fire under the talented but underperforming Hodgson. In fact, Hodgson only played 8:46 while skating on the fourth line against the Bruins Thursday. He will likely line up between Chris Stewart and Marcus Folingo against Pittsburgh, a much better gig than he had against Boston. We would keep Hodgson on reserve until he shows some signs of life.

Cody Hodgson scored for the Sabres in a stunning 2-1 win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Hodgson, 24, is still having a disappointing season so far (just two points and a -6 rating with a scant 10 SOG in nine games), but perhaps this will light a fire under him? He only received 10:48 time on ice on Saturday, so this may just be wakeup call material for the 10th pick of the 2008 NHL Draft.

In eight games this season three of the Sabres' top-line forwards have combined for a total of nine shots on goal.

You read that right. Cody Hodgson, Drew Stafford and Matt Moulson have combined to average slightly more than just one shot on goal per game. That despite ample ice time in both five-on-five and power-play situations for all three. That should tell just how awful the Sabres are playing collectively and how you need to bench any Buffalo player you had the misfortune of selecting on draft day.

Cody Hodgson continues to struggle despite two significant position moves that should ultimately benefit him.

Hodgson started the season as a left winger on the Sabres' second line and up front on the team's second power-play unit. This week he has been shifted back to his natural center position and been given the job of anchoring the Sabres' first power-play unit on the point. Notwithstanding these positive moves, Hodgson still has not recorded a point this season and had only one shot on goal in Friday's 1-0 loss to Florida. At least Hodgson is aware that he needs to shoot to score. "Obviously I need to shoot more. It’s just a mind-set, being able to shoot when nobody's ready. That type of thing. Because the goalies in this league are so good when they're ready for it they're going to stop it. If you can shoot, the quick-release guys, they score goals." Although it is easy to give up on Hodgson at this point, we suggest you be patient a little longer.

Cody Hodgson skated on the points on Buffalo's first power-play unit during Thursday's practice.

"We have one of the better shooters in the game in Cody Hodgson, so we've got to spring him and have him in position to shoot that puck," said coach Ted Nolan. Hodgson has registered just four shots in four games this season. He doesn't have a goal yet, but he has one assist.
