The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Zac Dalpe to a one-year contract.

The Sabres have not yet disclosed whether it's a one-year or two-year deal. As James O'Brien points out at prohockeytalk.com, it makes a difference, the one- or two-way detail could be important because the general feeling is that Dalpe isn’t exactly a shoo-in for a roster spot. The Olean Times Herald’s Bill Hoppe believes that the 24-year-old will fight for a fourth-line forward spot.

Zac Dalpe will be allowed to test the open market on July 1.

He won't be getting a qualifying offer from the Vancouver Canucks. Dalpe suited up in 55 games with the Canucks after he was acquired from Carolina in late September. He picked up just four goals and seven points in Vancouver.

Zac Dalpe scored the only Vancouver goal in a nightmarish 6-1 loss to the Stars on Thursday night.

Dalpe's fourth of the season was the only good thing about this disastrous performance for Vancouver. Alexander Edler and Kevin Bieksa picked up assists on the marker.

Zac Dalpe will skate on Vancouver's top line again Monday night.

He will stay with Henrik and Daniel Sedin after he scored in the team's 2-1 win over St. Louis on Friday. "It could be a short leash, but at the same time I am going to try and take advantage of it," Dalpe said. "I'm not going to change up my game and think I am a super-skilled guy now that I play with the Sedins. I am going to do what I do, shoot the puck, and hopefully play well with them." He has two goals and two assists in 29 games this season.

Zac Dalpe scored a goal in Vancouver's 2-1 win over St. Louis Friday evening.

Dalpe played on the first line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin and scored his second goal of the season. If Dalpe continues to play on the first unit he could be a nice fantasy option in deeper leagues. The Canucks will play again on Sunday so we will have to see if he stays with the Sedins. Mike Santorelli scored the other goal for the Canucks.

Zac Dalpe has completed a two-week conditioning stint.

Dalpe had three assists and a minus-six rating in six AHL games. He's also played in six contests with Vancouver this season, but he didn't record a point in those matches.

Zac Dalpe is heading to Vancouver along with Jeremy Walsh in the deal that sent Kellan Tochkin and a fourth-rounder to the Hurricanes.

Turning 24 in November, Dalpe has been a bit of a disappointment since being taken in the second round of the 2008 draft as he has just 41 games in the NHL and 10 points to show for it. It's not a bad gamble for the Canucks organization, but that doesn't mean fantasy owners need to put him on their radar anytime soon.

Dalpe can make $550,000 annually at the NHL level or $125,000 in the minors. No matter what happens though, he's guaranteed to earn at least $150,000. He had a goal and three points in 10 games with Carolina this season.

Dalpe has two points in seven games with Carolina this season. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get another stint with the club before the season's over.
