Boston reassigned Maxime Sauve to the minors on Monday afternoon after he was recalled prior to the team's morning practice.

Maxime Sauve has been returned to the minors.

Maxime Sauve has survived Boston's recent cuts, but his spot on the roster is not certain yet.

"We all know he's got skill, we all know he's got speed, and you know, he's pretty dangerous around the net and he showed that at Providence last year," coach Claude Julien said. "I think he has a lot of attributes that will allow him to play in the NHL. But in order to be an NHL regular, you have to do a little bit more than just skate and shoot." Sauve has not appeared in an NHL game in his career after being drafted 47th overall in 2008, so it's unlikely he'll take the place of a veteran player unless injuries become a factor. He notched 21 goals and 17 assists in 61 games with Providence in the AHL last season.

Maxime Sauve was impressive in Boston's 2-1 overtime victory against the New York Islanders in a rookie game on Thursday.

Sauve was involved in both goals and didn't shy away from competing in the corners. "I thought he had a strong two games," said GM Peter Chiarelli. "It's a different level of competition, but it's a good steppingstone for him. The next step there'll be a difference, and the next step will be even more noticeable. But he's showed a propensity to get a little bit dirtier in the corners, which is nice to see. That's one of the areas where wanted him to improve on." Chiarelli went onto say that Sauve will be in the mix if he can maintain this level of play. Sauve signed an entry-level deal with the Bruins in December.

"I'm a speed player with good skills and good offense," he said. He has solid NHL bloodlines as well; his father, Jean-Francois Sauve, played for Buffalo and Quebec; his uncle, Bob Sauve, is a former NHL goaltender; and his cousin Philippe Sauve also played in the NHL, at one point, with the Bruins. Sauve displayed his skills at the World U-18 tournament, helping Canada earn a gold medal.
