Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau feels Tyler Ennis could be a bounce-back candidate this season.
"If we can keep him healthy, I think he's going to have a rebound year like Eric Staal had," said Boudreau. "I'm very excited about having him. In our top-nine forwards, I think we're as strong as anybody in the league." Ennis has been limited to just 74 games over the last two years because of injuries. He is projected to line up on the third combination in 2017-18. Jul 28 - 8:07 PM

Look for newly-acquired forwards Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno to upgrade Minnesota's third line.

The two former Sabres could flank Charlie Coyle on what would be a very effective third unit. Eric Staal, Zach Parise and Nino Niederreiter will likely line up as the top unit with Mikko Koivu, Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker comprising the second line. If Ennis and Foligno are destined for third-line duty, look for them both to be 40-point players in 2017-18, which isn't too shabby for the 14 minutes of playing time they will likely get per night.

The Minnesota Wild have acquired Tyler Ennis, Marcus Foligno, and a 2018 third-round pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jason Pominville, Marco Scandella, and a 2018 fourth-round selection.

Ennis has had some decent offensive seasons, but he's struggled over the last two campaigns with a combined eight goals and 24 points in 74 contests. Perhaps the change of scenery will do him some good, but if it doesn't then he'll be overpriced for his $4.6 million annual cap hit. His contract will expire in the summer of 2019.

Ennis gave the Sabres a 2-0 lead at the 11:35 mark of the second period. This was his first goal in 23 games and just his fifth goal of the 2016-17 season. Ennis has always had plenty of skill, but injuries seem to have caught up with him. He's up to 13 points in 49 games this season. Rasmus Ristolainen also found the back of the net for the Sabres.

Tyler Ennis (groin) practiced Monday and he is close to getting back in the lineup.

"It was a good practice, some hard work," Ennis said. "I'm just trying to get the compete level up, get those battle drills in and get the body back to game readiness. I'm getting close.
