Tyler Ennis knows that building a winning culture is crucial for the Sabres.

"Losing is the worst," he said. "That's what we want to stress on the younger guys that are going to be a big part of the future is that this isn't acceptable. It needs to hurt. It does hurt. We need to get the winning mentality in here and back again. Sometimes if you lose a lot, you expect to lose. Those are the feelings that you don't want to slip into those young guys that are really important for the future." Part of the reason why coach Ted Nolan was fired was because Buffalo wants to change their losing culture. The team will look to continue those changes through the draft and free agency.

Tyler Ennis has gained more confidence since he was returned to the wing.

"I think I was more struggling at center, not so much the contract," said Ennis, who signed a five-year, $23-million contract extension last summer. "It was finding my game in the middle, getting scored on, losing faceoffs. Those things were frustrating me, and it kind of showed. When I went back to the wing, I felt loose, got the confidence back and I was feeling better." He has seen time on the right wing this year and said in some ways he prefers to the left. Ennis has back-to-back 20-goal seasons and he leads Buffalo in scoring with 45 points in 76 games.

Tyler Ennis produced a goal and added an assist in Monday's 4-3 victory over Carolina.

Tyler Ennis (upper body) will be back in the fold on Wednesday.

Not sure if this is good news to Buffalo fans since they are hoping to finish in last place to get the best odds to draft Connor McDavid, but the Sabres will be happy to get their leading scorer back in the lineup after Ennis missed the last two games due to a shoulder injury. Ennis was skating on the Sabres top line with Johan Larsson and Matt Moulson during the morning skate and resumed his usual place on the point on the top power-play unit. On the season he has 19 goals and 42 points with a minus 16 rating in 72 games played.

Although Tyler Ennis (upper-body injury) will not play Saturday night against the Avalanche, there is a chance he could dress for Monday's contest against the Coyotes.

The Sabres got relatively good news in that Ennis wasn't seriously injured in Thursday's contest. Consider Ennis day-to-day.

Tyler Ennis posted an assist and five shots in Monday's 4-3 loss to Dallas.

A frustrated Ennis slammed his stick on the ice a couple of times before heading to the dressing room after the Sabres had three leads in the match. "I thought we had it and we deserved it," said Ennis. "We get a little scrambly and that's how fast you can lose it. You have to play tight for 60 minutes." He was absent from the morning skate because of an illness, but was ready to go for the match.
