The Calgary Flames have inked Thomas McCollum to a two-year and two-way deal. He will head to AHL Stockton.
The 26-year-old netminder is a career minor leaguer with no NHL experience. He'll ding the Flames' cap at $612K if he comes up, but that's unlikely. He'll make $175K this season and $200K next season while down on the farm. Oct 15 - 3:36 PM

Thomas McCollum will attend Los Angeles Kings training camp on a professional tryout.

McCollum is a former first-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2008. The 26-year-old put together a number of solid seasons in the minors, but was never able to stick with the Wings. "Obviously, I was hoping for a contract, but that didn't work out, so out of all the teams I talked to the Kings seemed most interested in me being at their camp," said McCollum. "They were very persistent and I looked at it and decided it was a really good fit." McCollum will battle Jeff Zatkoff and Peter Budaj for the backup job in Los Angeles.

The Red Wings re-assigned netminder Thomas McCollum to Grand Rapids of the AHL Friday.

He appeared in 37 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2014-15, while posting a 19-11-7 record, a 2.40 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. He will be Detroit's third-string netminder.

He made two appearances with the Red Wings and posted his first NHL win in a relief outing against Buffalo. McCollum didn't play much, but he did post a .960 save percentage and a 0.91 goals-against average.

Thomas McCollum made his second appearance of the season in Thursday's 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay.

He stopped all 17 shots he faced in relief after Petr Mrazek was pulled. "I was pretty busy," he said. "I could see a lot of the shots, so that makes it easier for me. I felt great out there." The 25-year-old netminder's grandfather passed away on Tuesday, so it's been a tough week for him.

Thomas McCollum stopped seven of eight shots in Sunday's 6-4 win over Arizona.

McCollum entered the game after the Wings pulled starter Petr Mrazek. Detroit was down 3-0 when the switch was made, but they responded by scoring six goals in the final two periods. The win was the first of McCollum's NHL career. The 25-year-old was Detroit's first round pick back in 2008. The Red Wings have won four games in a row, and six of their last seven.

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Thomas McCollum from the AHL.

The Red Wings will need McCollum to back up Petr Mrazek while Jimmy Howard (groin) is out. The 25-year-old has been recalled twice this season, but he's yet to play in an NHL game in 2014-15.

With the return to health of Jimmy Howard, Thomas McCollum was re-assigned to Grand Rapids of the AHL Saturday.

He did not see any playing time in his latest three-game stint in the NHL. McCollum will continue to be a call away in the event of an injury to either Howard or Petr Mrazek. That is until Jonas Gustavsson has fully recovered from a separated shoulder.

Thomas McCollum was recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL Saturday to back up Petr Mrazek Sunday.

Jimmy Howard was injured Friday night and the Wings needed a back up for Mrazek, who will start Sunday and perhaps Tuesday. It is doubtful McCollum will see any playing time during his stay in Detroit.

Thomas McCollum has been recalled by Detroit.

He will serve as Jimmy Howard's backup. Petr Mrazek was brought up after Jonas Gustavsson got injured, but he didn't see any NHL playing time before going back to the AHL.

The Detroit Red Wings have officially re-signed Thomas McCollum.

McCollum got a two-way contract if the earlier reports are accurate, which obviously makes sense given that he's likely to start the season in the minors. McCollum will probably be called up if Jimmy Howard or Jonas Gustavsson get hurt, which is likely to happen at some point during the 2014-15 campaign given their histories.

Thomas McCollum has signed a one-year, two-way contract with Detroit.

"McCollum has made strides and is developing into the prospect we hoped he would be -- a little slower than we thought, but he's become a real solid AHL goaltender," GM Ken Holland said earlier this month. "Some players bloom a little later." He just completed his best season in the AHL, with a 24-12-4 record, a 2.30 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage for Grand Rapids. He'll back up Petr Mrazek next campaign.

The Detroit Red Wings signed goaltender Thomas McCollum to a minor-league deal.

The signing comes one day after the Red Wings did not give McCollum a qualifying offer. McCollum has been a disappointment for the Red Wings since they drafted him in the first round of the 2008 Draft. He was 45-55-6 in three seasons with Grand Rapids of the AHL and managed to play in one NHL game where he gave up three goals on eight shots in 15 minutes of action. The good news is that he is only 23, and goalies usually take a lot longer to mature.
