Nashville goalie prospect Chet Pickard will play in Sweden next season.
The Predators' 2008 first-round pick will play with Djurgarden, which was recently demoted to Sweden's second teier. The 22-year-old had a 3.12 goals-against average and .890 save percentage last season in the ECHL. "For me it’s all about results in a game," Pickard said. "I feel good right now and focused and energized. I can’t wait to get over there and play exhibition games and get the season started. ... It’s a change of scenery, which is nice. I want what’s best for me and I feel like by going here I get closer to my final goal which is being in the NHL." Sat, Aug 4, 2012 12:09:00 PM

Chet Pickard is looking for a big season in 2011-12.

Pickard was hoping to crack the Nashville lineup last season as the backup goalie behind Pekka Rinne but lost the battle to Anders Lindback and ended up in the ECHL after bombing in the AHL for Milwaukee. But he turned his game around in Cincinnati and the Predators rewarded him with a callup in the playoffs as the third goalie. "I saw in him on the ice something I had never seen," goaltending coach Mitch Korn said. "He was really, really good. He really was. And we hadn't seen that in awhile from him. I think that really changed everything for him." Pickard also lost weight in the off-season and comes into training camp in the best shape of his life. While he will be hard pressed to beat out Lindback, stranger things have happened in hockey. Stay tuned.

Chet Pickard has been reassigned to AHL Milwaukee.

This move is something of a surprise as Pickard was considered the frontrunner to secure the Predators' number two gig. Pickard is still worth hanging onto in keeper leagues, but it looks like he won't have any fantasy value this season.

Chet Pickard is excited at the prospect of being the number two goalie on the Nashville Predators this campaign.

"It's exciting when you look at TSN or and you see that open spot and they haven't signed anyone," he said. "It shows the organization believes that one of us guys can do it. And that's all you can ask for, is that chance, and when you get the chance, you have to make the best of it." Pickard struggled last season with Nashville's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee, posting a 2.85 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage in 36 games, but he claims to have learned from the experience as his conditioning and quickness have improved. He will compete with Mark Dekanich for the backup role behind Pekka Rinne, but another year of seasoning in the minors may be in the cards for him if he fails to impress at training camp.

The Nashville Predators have signed Chet Pickard to an entry-level contract.

No terms were announced. Pickard was the 18th overall pick in the 2008 Entry Draft and the first goaltender taken in the draft. He is still at least a few years away from playing in the NHL and will play in the WHL again this season with the Tri-City Americans. Keep your eye on him as he is the Predators goaltender of the future.

The Nashville Predators have selected Chet Pickard with the 18th pick in the 2008 entry draft.

Nashville is selecting based on need by taking a goaltender. The Predators recently traded Chris Mason and they have some depth issues when it comes to netminders. Chet Pickard hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He just completed his third season with the Tri-City Americans. He was named the number one goalie after Carey Price left the club in the off-season and won 49 games, a Tri-City record with a 2.32 GAA and .918 save percentage. In the 2008 playoffs he won 11 of 16 starts with a 1.78 GAA and .937 save percentage. Pickard was awarded the CHL Goaltender of the Year. A butterfly style goaltender, Pickard allowed three goals on 13 shots playing the second half of the 2008 Prospects Game. Pickard is comparable to young star goaltender Carey Price. Pickard is very unlikely to start the 2008-09 season in the NHL, but he's someone to keep an eye on.
