Mitchell tested his status during Sunday's practice. "It was a really annoying and very tedious injury that I had," Mitchell said. "It’s 100 percent now, which is good. Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar says that John Mitchell (hip) won't travel with the team on their four-game road trip.

Mitchell has become a steady down-roster contributor, but hip injuries can be serious and he still isn't practicing. He's out at least until Oct. 28th when the Avalanche return home, but we'd be skeptical based on his lack of practices thus far.

"I've had good chemistry over a couple of years with Mitchy," Iginla said. "Tangs, I'm always excited to play with him. We both know what we're going to do instinctively because we've played together so much. But now we know we need to be better." Mitchell hasn't scored since Dec. 21 and he has one assist in his last 13 contests.

John Mitchell was demoted to the fourth line after he took three penalties in Saturday's loss to the Flames.

Mitchell took an intereference penalty and a slashing penalty (Calgary scored on that power play) in the first period. He also added a second slashing penalty in the third frame. He played 12:19 in the loss.

John Mitchell scored his seventh goal of the season in Sunday's 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Mitchell's goal at the 11:50 mark of the first proved to be the game-winner for Colorado. Alex Tanguay and Brandon Gormley picked up the assists on the goal. Mitchell has registered a point in three of his last four games. The 30-year-old has eight points in 20 games this season.

John Mitchell now has six goals on the season, giving him six points in seventeen games. Mitchell also picked up a couple of penalties in the game for a total of four penalty minutes. Mitchell's goal was assisted by Matt Duchene and Tyson Barrie. Barrie opened the scoring in the second period.
