John Mitchell scored his seventh goal of the season on Wednesday.
Mitchell has 11 points in 21 games this season. He got off to a hot start, but has slowed down as a the season drags on. We don't anticipate him having much fantasy value in standard leagues for the rest of the 2013 campaign. Mar 7 - 9:46 AM

John Mitchell is day-to-day with the flu.

Mitchell will not be available for Monday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes. He's been a pleasant surprise for the Avalanche this season with seven points in 10 games. Colorado is already playing without forwards Steve Downie and Gabe Landeskog due to injuries and they haven't been able to re-sign restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly. "You got to go out there and play the hand you're dealt. We're fine. We can't worry about who's not here, who's not in the lineup," Avs coach Joe Sacco said. "We have to focus on what we can control and that's the players that are available to us."

John Mitchell had two goal and an assists in Colorado's 6-3 victory over Calgary on Thursday.

Mitchell now has four goals this season, just one shy of his 2011-12 mark established over 63 games. He's getting big minutes on the depleted Colorado Avalanche, making him a bit of an unconventional choice for those fishing for a waiver wire pickup.

John Mitchell will move to play with Paul Stastny and David Jones on Wednesday night.

The Avalanche have been forced to change up their combinations with captain Gabriel Landeskog and plugger Steve Downie sidelined due to injury. "Just shake it up a little bit and see what happens," coach Joe Sacco said. "Stastny and Jones, I have high hopes for those guys. They had a real good season last year together and I expect them to pick it up here very shortly." Mitchell, who is playing in his first season with the Avalanche, currently has two goals in five games.

John Mitchell's face looks like a mask.

Absorbing a puck to the forehead did the most damage in a 4-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night, but incidents in Colorado's two other games messed up his nose and mouth. "I've never seen a guy three games in a row take such a beating," Avs defenseman Erik Johnson said. Looks aren't deceiving. The Avs' new third-line center is contributing to his team in multiple ways. His two goals are tied with Matt Duchene and P.A. Parenteau for the team lead, and he's tied for second with a plus-3 rating. "Obviously he's a pretty tough guy," Avs veteran right winger Milan Hejduk said.

The Colorado Avalanche have signed former New York Ranger center John Mitchell to a two-year/$2.2 million contract.

Mitchell had only one assist in 18 playoff games with the Rangers after scoring five goals and 16 points in 63 regular season games. He is a bottom six forward with little fantasy value.

Darren Dreger is reporting that John Mitchell is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche.

John Mitchell appears as though he will be a healthy scratch for Game 5 on Wednesday night.

He remained out on the ice, skating as an extra, after the other players headed off and Brandon Dubinsky, who is being speculated to return, left with them. If Mitchell isn't in the lineup then it will mark the first time he has not dressed for a game since March 6. He has one assist in 18 playoff games.

John Mitchell could return to New York's lineup on Thursday night if Brandon Dubinsky can't play because of a nose/sinus issue.

He was a healthy scratch on Tuesday at New Jersey. Mitchell hasn't scored a goal since Jan. 24 and he has just two assists in his last 17 games.

John Mitchell is not in the lineup for the Rangers tonight.

Mitchell was seen with an ice pack on his right hand. John Scott will draw into the lineup. Just an FYI although Scott could pick up some penalty minutes.

John Mitchell has performed well at both ends of the ice since being recalled from the minors by the New York Rangers.

He has recorded a point in three straight games to go with a plus-3 rating. He has formed a successful trio with fellow call-up Carl Hagelin and Brian Boyle. "It wasn't anything really stressed as far as defense, defense, defense but, obviously, we have to take care of our end," Mitchell said. "We have an opportunity with our line to use our speed and get in on the forecheck. That's almost our best defense." Hagelin has also picked up a point in each of his first three games at the NHL level.

John Mitchell registered an assist in his first NHL game on Friday.

Mitchell was on the ice for 11:15 minutes and won both of his faceoff opportunities. He has two goals and five points in eight games with the AHL Syracuse Crunch in 2011-12.

The New York Rangers have re-signed John Mitchell.

Mitchell posted seven goals and 12 points in 14 games with the Connecticut Whale after being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a seventh round draft pick in 2012 at the trade deadline last season. He recorded three goals and six points in six playoff contests for the Whale as well to earn the extension. Mitchell will likely spend the majority of the 2011-12 campaign in the minors.
