John Mitchell is out of the lineup Saturday night because of a leg injury.

The Avalanche say he injured it during Friday’s practice. His absence means Colorado will go with an all-rookie third line: Andrew Agozzino, Ben Street and Tomas Vincour. Mitchell has five points in 16 games this year, and he’s averaging 13:49 per game.

Nov 13 - 11:30 AM

John Mitchell was able to find the back of the net but it was far from enough in the Avalanche's 5-2 loss to the Canucks on Tuesday.

John Mitchell and Jamie McGinn were both able to beat the Canucks' Ryan Miller in the first period but the Avs were shut out the rest of the night. Unfortunately for anyone counting on Colorado players in fantasy leagues, it is unlikely you owned either of these guys unless it was a deep sleeper status in a one day pool challenge.
Nov 5 - 12:39 AM

Third-line center John Mitchell is an underrated but key player for the Avalanche.

Although he doesn't contribute much offensively his possession rates are very high and he is an excellent defensive player who can shut down an opponent's top scorers. Mitchell is a great asset for a real hocky team, but not much value to a fantasy one. We just thought we'd Mitchell a shoutout for his fine work in Colorado.

Oct 25 - 1:22 PM

After battling severe migraines since April, John Mitchell has played well for Colorado in his first two games of the season.

The migraines forced Mitchell to miss last year's playoffs, as well as this year's training camp and some regular season action. In two games this year, Mitchell has recorded a goal and an assist. The 29-year-old is a very good penalty-killer, and although he won't continue to put up points consistently, he is a heart-and-soul player. Colorado is better with him in the lineup.
