According to Avs' head coach Patrick Roy, there is a chance that Jamie McGinn could have season-ending back surgery.

Nothing has been confirmed just yet, but the possibility does exist. The 26-year-old has missed Colorado's last five games because of his back injury. He has four goals and six points in 19 games this season.

He will play alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Jarome Iginla, which will no doubt give him at least fringe fantasy value. Alex Tanguay will continue to skate on the Avs' third line, featuring John Mitchell and Dennis Everberg. That won't do wonders for Tanguay's hockey pool worth.

The goal was McGinn’s third of the season. The Avalanche have now scored just 20 goals in nine games this season. The Avs have been a bit of an enigma so far. They have so much firepower upfront but have been unable to generate much offense. Colorado now falls to 2-4-3 on the year.

Jamie McGinn has signed a two-year extension with the Avalanche.

Financial terms weren't disclosed. He had a salary cap hit of $1.75 million in his last two-year contract. "Jamie is coming off a very good season and played an important role for our team," said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. "We're excited to have him under contract for another two years." During the 2013-14 campaign, he generated 19 goals and 19 assists.

Jamie McGinn scored a goal and registered an assist in Colorado's 5-4 overtime loss to Minnesota Wednesday night.

McGinn ended his season with two points and he had five points overall in the playoffs. He played his best season yet in the NHL and he is looking to continue his strong performances next season also. Erik Johnson, Nick Holden and Paul Stastny also scored a goal for the Avalanche, while Matt Duchene and PA Parenteau both added two helpers in the loss.

McGinn has been relatively disappointing with 32 points in 66 games this season, but he has picked it up of late with six points in his last four contests. Nathan MacKinnon and Maxime Talbot also scored goals for Colorado in the loss while Matt Duchene dished out a pair of helpers.
