Zack Smith opened the scoring in Game 5 Thursday night.
His first career postseason goal came just over two minutes into the opening period on a juicy rebound in front of Montreal starter Peter Budaj. Smith was credited with nine hits and 15 penalty minutes (all of which came in one game) in Ottawa's first-round series. May 10 - 11:15 AM

Zack Smith has netted three goals in his last seven games after going 23 straight contests without a marker to open the year.

He has also added two assists during his recent goal-scoring surge. Smith has 13 points and 32 penalty minutes along with 57 hits in 30 games this campaign.
Mar 21 - 11:28 AM

Zack Smith skated on the Senators' first line Friday night and he proved worthy of the opportunity scoring a goal.

Smith centered Daniel Alfredsson and Milan Michalek on the top unit while Kyle Turris moved down to play on the team's second line. Obviously, if Smith, who has scored in two consecutive games, can keep this gig his fantasy value increases siginificantly.

Zack Smith potted a goal and added an assist but it wasn't enough as the Senators fell to the Maple Leafs 5-4 on Wednesday night.

Smith is more of an agitative type with limited offensive capabilities. The 24-year-old's goal was just his first in 24 games this season. Colin Greening, Daniel Alfredsson and Mika Zibanejad were the others to find the back of the net. Erik Condra had two assists.

After 16 games, Ottawa's Zack Smith is still looking for his first goal of the season.

He hasn't found the back of the net since March 10, 2012, which equates to a stretch of 29 games. Smith has collected five assists and 22 penalty minutes this year.

Zack Smith didn't participate in Monday's practice for "maintenance," according to the Senators.

Coach Paul MacLean said Smith was dealing with a "lower body" problem, which was caused by a blocked a shot against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Smith has one assist, 11 shots and seven penalty minutes in five games this season. We'll list him as active for now.

Zack Smith left Wednesday evening for Denmark, where he has agreed to play for the Frederikshavn White Hawks.

"It's obviously below some of the elite leagues like Sweden and the KHL, but from what I'm told it's about equivalent to the Slovakian league, not quite as good as the Finnish league," said Smith referring to the AL-Bank Ligae. "It'll be good." Smith had 26 points and 98 penalty minutes in 81 games with Ottawa last season.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Zack Smith looks like he will sign with the Frederikshavn White Hawks to play in the AL-Bank Ligae.

His Senators teammate Colin Greening plays for the Aalborg Pirates of the Danish League, so he could be in store for some friendly competition overseas. Smith received a four-year contract extension from Ottawa back in September.

The Ottawa Senators have signed Zack Smith to a four-year contract extension.

His new deal, which will begin after the 2012-13 campaign, will carry an average annual cap hit of $1.88 million. Smith produced 26 points and 98 penalty minutes in 81 games with the Senators last season.

Zack Smith will probably be counted on to serve as Ottawa's third-line center this campaign.

He held the role for parts of last season and established himself as a rugged forward, who can also chip in offensively. Smith contributed 14 goals and 12 assists in 81 games. His 98 penalty minutes and 168 hits give him increased fantasy value in leagues that credit players of the rough and tumble variety and he should accomplish more of the same in 2012-13.

Zack Smith will play on the same line as Kyle Turris and Daniel Alfredsson on Friday.

This is a great opportunity for Smith, who had been serving on the fourth line. Smith has just 25 points and 88 penalty minutes in 73 games, but he's worth keeping an eye on Friday. If the line works out in the Senators' upcoming contest, then Smith might have a bit of fantasy value in the final weeks of the season.

Zack Smith and Kaspars Daugavins will spend Sunday's game in the press box.

Forward Rob Klinkhammer, recalled from Binghamton Saturday, will play. "We can only play 20. We have to play well to play," said coach MacLean. "At this point of the season, other people are playing better and that’s why they’re not playing." Klinkhammer said he was surprised to get the call. "I’m just super excited. I’m just glad to get the opportunity. I’m going to try to make the most of it and try not to be nervous," said Klinkhammer.

Zack Smith was back in action Saturday against the Ducks.

He had left Thursday's game early with an upper-body injury, but was fine against Anaheim Saturday afternoon as he went plus one in 13:40 of playing time.

Smith left Thursday's game in the second period after being the victim of a high hit. Smith has 12 goals and nine assists in 49 contests this season.
