Ryan Russell has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus.

He was acquired from Montreal in exchange for forward Mike Blunden last summer and split between the Jackets and their AHL affiliate in Springfield during the 2011-12 campaign. Russell had two goals in 41 NHL appearances in his first taste of big-league action.

If he recovers from a bruised foot sustained when he blocked a shot last week, he will be demoted to the AHL. If he is not fully healthy, he will be placed on the injured list. Either way, he won't be with Columbus once the NHL season starts. Russell has no fantasy value.

Columbus recently traded for Montreal Canadiens' Ryan Russell, the identical twin brother of Columbus Blue Jackets' Defenseman Kris Russell.

Move over Sedins, there's a new twin tandem in the NHL. Ryan Russell played in the AHL during his time with the Habs' organization and is not expected to be an everyday NHLer this upcoming season. Nonetheless Kris was delighted as he explained, "I just got done working out and Ryan walked in and told me he got traded," Kris Russell told The Dispatch today. "I said 'Really? Where are you going?', and he just pointed at me. Finally he said, 'I got traded to you guys. I got traded to Columbus.'
