Nick Holden picked up his third goal of the season in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Oilers.

Holden not only scored and blocked a shot during his 22:14 of work, he also dished out nine hits to easily lead the game. Colorado as a team had 30 and there were only 43 in the game itself. Maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or maybe this is the start of something.

Coach Patrick Roy likes the defense pairing of Nick Holden and Tyson Barrie.

"They're both capable of breaking out on their own; they're both mobile. Nick is capable of playing steady defense for us, which is good for Tyson as well, and he's having some good reads," said the Avalanche bench boss. "If Tyson goes on the rush, (Holden) is capable of playing the odd-man rush. I just feel right now it's a good fit for both of them." Holden has averaged just over 20 minutes of ice time per match this season, while collecting eight assists and 60 hits.

Holden, who played a team high 22:42 including 4:07 on the kill, is off to a fine start this season now with three points in four games. He still only has 40 points in a 142 career games, but if you're in a deep league perhaps this is enough to put Holden on your radar.

Nick Holden is expected to play his fifth consecutive game at Chicago Tuesday.

He had been a healthy scratch for the previous four contests and is trying to reclaim the form he displayed during the 2013-14 campaign. "Last year, it was an unbelievable year," Holden said Monday. "The start of the year, it hasn't gone as planned. You have to keep working hard and do what you can do." In 54 games this year, he generated 10 goals and 25 points.

Nick Holden will remain a heathy scratch Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Holden has scored two goals and four assists this season in 31 games for the Avalanche but will be a healthy scratch for the fourth straight game. A minus 16 rating in those 31 games may be the reason for his continuous scratching.

Nick Holden and Patrick Bordeleau will sit Sunday night in Detroit, as Dennis Everberg tags in.

Holden has fallen off this season and is not hold much fantasy value unless you need a block or hit in a pinch. In which he might give you one or two respectively. Bordeleau, who's sitting with a slight leg injury, had 115 PIMs and 178 hits in all 82 games last season, but has just two hits in one game so far. Everberg has no fantasy value.

Nick Holden will skate as a forward on Thursday night.
