Grant Clitsome has announced his retirement.
"It is with great regret, that today I announce my retirement from hockey due to a back injury," said Clitsome. "It's tough when something unexpected, and out of your control, suddenly ends your career. Despite the circumstances, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream and play in the NHL. I am also very grateful for all the great people that I have met, and all the friendships that I have made playing hockey. I would like to thank my family and friends for all of their love and support over the years. I would like to thank the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for drafting me and giving me an opportunity to start my professional career. I would also like to thank the Winnipeg Jets organization for me treating me so well from day one. It truly was a special place to play and I'm proud to retire as a Jet." Grant Clitsome (back) isn't expected to be ready by the start of training camp.

"He's been going through rehab throughout the summer, he'll come in and see our doctors here at training camp," said GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. "We will have a better update after (that) but I'm not anticipating him being on the ice for training camp." He has had two procedures on his ailing back and was limited to just 24 games last season.

Grant Clitsome underwent back surgery on Thursday.

He is out indefinitely and could be gone for the remainder of the season. Clitsome has produced four assists in 24 games with the Jets. Adam Pardy and Paul Postma have formed Winnipeg's third defense pairing, while Jay Harrison is skating with Zach Bogosian, who is ready to return from injury.

Grant Clitsome (upper body injury) will not be able to dress Monday night against the Sharks.

Head coach Paul Maurice was quoted as saying the following about the Jets defenseman: "more into a week or two before we will have him back," so the original day-to-day diagnosis seems to be an under estimate. In 24 games, Clitsome has four assists and no goals. Julien Brouillette will take his spot on the blue line and pair up with Adam Pardy.

Grant Clitsome missed practice on Sunday and is expected to be day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

Coach Maurice is calling it a "maintenance" day, but the tenor and tone around Clitsome seems more ominous than that. We'll keep you posted as the story develops.

Grant Clitsome will indeed return to the Jets' lineup Tuesday night against the Sabres.

Clitsome's been out since November 28th with an unspecified injury, and he will pair with Adam Pardy on Winnipeg's third unit. Paul Postma will go with Mark Stuart on the second unit, while Dustin Byfuglien will skate with Ben Chiarot on their first unit. Only Byfuglien and Stuart own any fantasy value in the group.

Grant Clitsome was taken off injured reserve over the weekend.

"I feel great," said Clitsome, who skated with Adam Pardy on Monday. "I had the chance to get quite a few practices in, a few skates on the road there and a couple days off to get some rest. I feel a lot better. My conditioning feels good. I haven't been off too, too long." He's not sure if he'll play Tuesday night, but he's hoping to get back into the lineup soon. Clitsome has been sidelined since Nov. 28 due to an undisclosed ailment.

He's retroactive to Nov. 29. Clitsome was able to practice with the Jets on Monday. but he participated in a no-contact jersey.

Grant Clitsome will be out for at least two weeks with an undisclosed injury.

He didn't play on Wednesday against Edmonton. Clitsome has one assist in 16 games this campaign.

Grant Clitsome will tag in for Tobias Enstrom Tuesday night against Columbus.

Enstrom is still recovering from a lower body injury and is considered day-to-day. Clitsome, who missed the previous four games mostly due to illness seems excited to make his return in Columbus. "I feel comfortable being around the rink" he said. "Everything feels familiar. It's a little bit nostalgic playing in a building where you started your career. It's a big two points for us. We need to get going in the right direction again. From an old team perspective, it will be fun." Clitsome was drafted in the ninth round in 2004 by the Blue Jackets.

Grant Clitsome has recovered from his illness.

Clitsome missed four straight games, but he'll be in the Jets' lineup on Tuesday. He's projected to play alongside Zach Bogosian.

Grant Clitsome suited up in his first game of the season Tuesday night.

He picked up an assist and a plus-1 rating in Winnipeg's 3-1 win against Carolina. Clitsome replaced Adam Pardy in the lineup and coach Paul Maurice was pleased with his performance. "That was a pretty impressive step from his exhibition schedule," said Maurice. "That was a different player we saw. Confident, physical." It may have earned Clitsome another appearance on Friday.

Grant Clitsome says he has completely recovered from a back injury that forced him to miss the last 46 games of the regular season last year.

"We took it nice and slow this summer. I progressed gradually throughout the spring and summer to make sure I didn’t aggravate it," said Clitsome. "[I] kept on top of my rehab and came to see the doctors here in July and got the green light saying everything was basically as good as it could be." Clitsome was limited to 32 games last year and registered 2 goals and 12 points.

Grant Clitsome (back) has been skating every other day.

He sat out the Jets' last 46 games after having surgery on the herniated disc in his back. Doctors also removed a bone fragment during the procedure. "At least it's fixed now and it will be good for next year," he said.
