Roman Hamrlik dressed Thursday night after being a healthy scratch for the Rangers' previous two contests.

He is competing with Stu Bickel and Matt Gilroy for the sixth spot on New York's back end. "We have a few guys looking to take that spot," said coach John Tortorella, who stressed the importance of someone stepping up with Marc Staal on the sidelines. "I would say [Steve Eminger] has played well enough to be in the five, but we'd like to get six playing, especially with the amount of games that we have here."

Roman Hamrlik will not head down to the minors for a conditioning assignment.

He will stay with the team and work with Rangers assistant Jim Schoenfeld. Hamrlik has been a healthy scratch for the Rangers past two games.
Mar 14 - 11:14 AM

Roman Hamrlik won't get the chance to play against his former Washington teammates Sunday because he will be a healthy scratch.

Coach John Tortorella and Hamrlik agreed that he needs to work on his conditioning after being relegated to the press box for most of the season. Hamrlik logged 15:48 of ice time in his Rangers debut Thursday, but he played just 7:29 against Ottawa on Friday. He was claimed off waivers from the Capitals on Wednesday.
Mar 9 - 6:16 PM

Roman Hamrlik played 15:48 in his Rangers debut.

The Czech defenseman, who also had a shot on goal, was claimed off waivers Wednesday from the Capitals. With Marc Staal out, Hamrlik should get decent minutes, but it remains to be seen how long coach John Tortorella deals with his lack of speed and defensive deficiencies.
Mar 8 - 10:29 AM

Roman Hamrlik will probably be a healthy scratch on Thursday.

The Rangers claimed Hamrlik off of waivers on Wednesday. "Happy, excited, anxious to play," Hamrlik said. "This is a really good team, with one of the best goaltenders in the league. They have some great defensemen who can skate and move the puck, lots of speed in the front. I think this team is a Stanley Cup contender and they have a chance to go far." He isn't expected to have any fantasy value with the Rangers.
Mar 7 - 2:38 PM

Roman Hamrlik has been claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers.

The Washington Capitals placed the veteran defenseman on the waiver wire Tuesday after sitting him as a healthy scratch for most the year. Hamrlik has played in just four games this campaign, but with Marc Staal's injury Tuesday he might be afforded the opportunity to step directly into the Rangers' lineup.
Mar 6 - 1:42 PM

Washington Capitals waive D Roman Hamrlik.

This is our first blurb about Hamrlik since Feb. 7, which should tell you pretty much all you need to know. Hamrlik has dressed in just four games this season and has one assists and a minus-1 rating.
Mar 5 - 12:26 PM

Roman Hamrlik will probably be a healthy scratch for an eighth straight game Thursday.

Coach Adam Oates said that Hamrlik will "get his chance," but for now he appears to be content with the top-six group he has. He played in the first three games of the year and hasn't gotten into the lineup since. "Obviously just keep working, keep working hard in the practices," Hamrlik said. "I've been in this situation many times, especially last year with Dale [Hunter]. Now it's new system and I'm in the same track. Stay positive and keep working hard and hopefully I'm gonna get a chance to play again."
Feb 7 - 10:24 AM

Roman Hamrlik clarified his concerns with the lockout on Monday in a phone interview and defended himself against some criticism he has received for questioning Donald Fehr.

The Capitals defenseman took issue with being characterized as a veteran who wants to collect his money and one who isn't concerned with the future of the game or its players. "But it's not about the money for me. I want the best deal for the players," he said. "When I was younger, the older guys were sacrificing. Now I'm in the same spot. For me, it's more: This is maybe my last chance to play for the Cup. I grew up in a communist republic, and my dream was to win the Cup. I think I can play another year or two, but time is flying. In 2004, there were so many older guys who sacrificed and then didn't come back [after the lockout ended]. That could happen to me." Hamrlik also called Washington teammate Troy Brouwer when he learned that Brouwer was irked by his comments. "He's a great teammate, said Hamrlik. "I don't have a problem with any comment he makes. We talked as friends, and that was it."

When asked about Roman Hamrlik's criticisms of him, NHL executive director Donald Fehr said that he doesn't believe in censoring anyone.

Fehr held it up as an example of how the NHLPA is different from the NHL. Hamrlik recently argued that Fehr should be fired if the NHL season is canceled.

Roman Hamrlik hasn't been involved in the CBA process according to an anonymous agent.

Hamrlik harshly criticized NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr recently and believes both sides have too much pride. "He’s a guy that has not participated in any conference calls from the very beginning of the process. He hasn't bothered to attend any CBA meetings. He hasn’t bothered to attend any NHLPA meetings," said the agent of Hamrlik. "His opinion is not shared by 99 percent of the other players." Troy Brouwer also argued that if the owners latest offer was brought to a vote, as Hamrlik suggested, that the players would overwhelmingly reject it.

Roman Hamrlik isn't backing down from his harsh comments on NHLPA boss Donald Fehr.

Hamrlik suggested that Fehr should be removed if the season gets canceled and wants the NHL's proposal put to a vote. "This is nothing against any of the players," Hamrlik said. "I stand with them. We are all together in this. And we want a great deal. A fair deal. Everybody’s losing in this right now. Owners, players, fans. The fans are the reason for hockey. Some cities won’t be able to recover their fans for future seasons. I just want to say I’ve been in the league for 20 years and faced three lockouts and there’s only 14 other guys that have done that. I believe I've earned the right to say what I think. If someone thinks I’m selfish. I may be, but it’s selfish to play hockey. Like everybody else, I want to win the Cup with the Capitals, or at least have a chance." Hamrlik added that he thinks this is a fight between sides that have too much pride.

Roman Hamrlik had some harsh words for NHLPA head Donald Fehr, saying he should be given the boot if there's no season.

This is obviously in direct contrast from literally every other player who has spoken out. "I am disgusted," Hamrlik said as translated from ISport.cz by Roman Jedlicka. "We have to push Fehr to the wall to get the deal. Time is against us. We lost [one-quarter of the] season, [about] $425M. Who will give it back to us? Mr. Fehr? There should be voting between players. Four questions – yes or no – then count it. If half of players say lets play, then they should sign new CBA. If there is no season he should leave and we will find someone new. Time is our enemy." At 38, Hamrlik is likely close to finishing his career so he has less to lose (and more to gain, by playing now) by being honest.

Roman Hamrlik netted a goal in Washington's 2-1 loss Saturday night.

The Capitals have been eliminated from the playoffs. Brooks Laich and Jason Chimera assisted on Hamrlik's goal. Alexander Semin recorded a team-high four shots on goal, but also finished the game with a minus-two rating. Matt Hendricks and Alex Ovechkin each recorded four hits for the Capitals.
