Jeff Zatkoff has been called up by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets are also sending Joonas Korpisalo to the minors. The backup goaltender in Columbus doesn't get much playing time behind Sergei Bobrovsky, so rotating who is in that role allows both of them to get some work in the AHL and thus stay sharp.

Jeff Zatkoff might not end up with a role in the Los Angeles Kings' organization.

Los Angeles put Zatkoff on waivers Tuesday after he failed to win the battle for the backup goaltender role, but he might not end up getting playing time in the AHL either. The Kings already have Cal Petersen taking up a netminding slot in the AHL and they still have two goalies competing for the Kings' backup role in Darcy Kuemper and Jack Campbell. Either of Kuemper or Campbell could end up splitting the AHL goaltending duties with Petersen, leaving Zatkoff as the odd man out. That being said, Kuemper or Campbell would need to clear waivers to be sent down, so it's possible that the Kings logjam will be sorted for them.

Jeff Zatkoff was sent to AHL Ontario on Saturday following Jonathan Quick's activation from injured reserve.

The 29-year-old has seen 14 games with the Reign this season, posting a 4-7-1 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA. Which are by far better than his NHL marks this season through 13 games.

Despite clearing waivers, Jeff Zatkoff will remain with the Kings for now.

Jonathan Quick is still sidelined, but now the Kings know they can send Zatkoff to the minors once Quick is ready to play. The Kings might also still end up trading Zatkoff. While it might seem odd that a team would acquire Zatkoff after they declined to claim him on waivers, if they had done so then he would have had to remain on their NHL roster. By acquiring Zatkoff now, after he cleared waivers, he can be stored in the AHL for now to add some extra goaltending depth without requiring an NHL roster spot.

Jeff Zatkoff went unclaimed on waivers.

We'll have to wait and see if the Kings decide to send Zatkoff to the AHL. It will likely happen eventually as Jonathan Quick is getting close to returning, but Quick isn't expected to return just yet. With that in mind, Zatkoff might spend another week or two with Los Angeles.

Jeff Zatkoff has been placed on waivers.

The Kings appear to be preparing for Jonathan Quick's return to the lineup, but this doesn't mean it's imminent. Zatkoff has played in just 13 games this season, while posting a 2-7-1 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage.

Jeff Zatkoff came in relief of starter Peter Budaj and held the fort nicely on Sunday against the Capitals.

Zatkoff played only the third period and stopped four of five shots as the Kings fell 5-0. He has started just eight times this season.
