Jeff Zatkoff (lower body) might be ready to return around when he's eligible to be activated off the injured reserve list.
Zatkoff was injured on Saturday and he has to stay on the IR for at least seven days. "You know what, I think a week is pretty much normal for that," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "…It’s not extended or anything like that. So I just look at it like the schedule we play every other day and then back-to-back to finish this week, so he wouldn’t be eligible to come off til after we come home from that trip." With Jonathan Quick hurt too, the Kings' goaltenders are currently Peter Budaj and Jack Campbell. Oct 24 - 6:17 PM

The LA Kings have placed Jeff Zatkoff on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

The move allows them to swap Zatkoff's cap hit for, at least for the time being, Jack Campbell's who's already been called up to the big club. We'll keep you posted on Zatkoff's status as it develops, until then Peter Budaj is the main man in The City of Angels.
Oct 22 - 6:22 PM

Jeff Zatkoff suffered a lower body injury in practice on Saturday morning, and will not play against the Canucks.

He needed help off the ice and into the locker room as well. Ouch. That's a tough blow to the 29-year-old who was being offered the Kings' crease in Jonathan Quick's absence. Peter Budaj will step in tonight. We'll keep you posted on Zatkoff's prognosis.
Oct 22 - 4:35 PM

Jeff Zatkoff was pulled after allowing five goals on just 16 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

Zatkoff has been forced into the starter's role because of the injury to Jonathan Quick and it hasn't gone very well. The 29-year-old has dropped both of his starts and all three of his appearances this season. The Kings' opponents have scored nine goals on Zatkoff in their last two games. It's obvious that Los Angeles will have to go find themselves another goalie if they want to turn things around. Peter Budaj stopped all nine shots he faced in relief of Zatkoff. They now own an 0-3-0 in 2016-17. Zatkoff isn't an option in standard fantasy leagues.
Oct 19 - 12:11 AM

Jeff Zatkoff was the first goalie off the ice during Tuesday's morning skate.

That usually indicates that he'll be between the pipes for tonight's contest. The Kings will be taking on the Wild on the road in Minnesota. Zatkoff will be making his third straight appearance because Jonathan Quick is sidelined with an injury. He has an 0-2 record with a 3.08 goals-against-average and a .891 save percentage. There are much better fantasy options tonight.
Oct 18 - 6:16 PM

Jeff Zatkoff stopped 26 of 30 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers on Friday.

Zatkoff made the start in relief of Jonathan Quick who is suffering from a lower-body injury. With Quick being sidelined for multiple weeks, it'll be interesting to see if the Kings will tap into the goalie market or ride Zatkoff. If Zatkof continues with performances like these, Peter Budaj won't have to wait long before he gets a start in goal.
Oct 15 - 1:48 AM

Jeff Zatkoff will play between the pipes on Friday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Zatkoff is the Kings' de facto starter while Jonathan Quick recovers from a lower-body injury. Given that Quick is expected to be out for weeks, Zatkoff could end up getting quite a bit of work before he returns. Peter Budaj has been summoned from the AHL.
Oct 14 - 10:31 AM

With Jonathan Quick (lower body) sidelined for weeks, Jeff Zatkoff might have a lot of short-term value.

Zatkoff entered this season as one of the league's least valuable backups by virtue of the assumption that Quick would get the vast majority of the starts. Remove those assumptions on his playing time though and you have a goalie that's been solid enough between the pipes. His career 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage aren't the stuff of dreams, but they're fine even if his sample size is fairly small at 36 career NHL games. If you're hurting for goaltending, Zatkoff might be worth picking up, at least in the short-term.
Oct 13 - 6:09 PM

Jeff Zatkoff took over the goaltending duties from Jonathan Quick in the second period of Wednesday’s opening night game. He gave up one goal in the 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks

Zatkoff took over the duties when Quick left with a lower body injury. He stopped 15 shot to give him a save percentage of .938. It was trial by fire for Zatkoff after moving over from the Penguins where he has four wins in 14 starts last year.
Oct 13 - 1:24 AM

Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff is excited to be back as a member of the Los Angeles Kings.

Zatkoff was originally drafted by the Kings in the 2006 and spent four seasons in their farm system before being dealt to Pittsburgh. He won a Stanley Cup ring last season with the Penguins and contributed by playing two playoff games but is now back in LA. "It’s exciting for me," Zatkoff said after the third day of Kings camp on Saturday. "You leave, you don’t think that you’re probably going to end back up in that organization. I went to Pittsburgh and they gave me an opportunity to play and then just kind of the way that things shaked out I had an opportunity to come back. I was excited. Just a chance to work with Billy [Ranford] again. I know a lot of guys in this room so it makes the transition a little easier, but definitely being able to work with someone that you feel is a big part of the reason you are in the NHL. To be able to come back and work with him really was a huge selling point for me." Look for Zatkoff to play in 20-25 games this season.
Sep 26 - 7:56 AM

Jeff Zatkoff has signed a two-year contract with Los Angeles.

He will earn $900,000 per season. Zatkoff had a 4-7-1 record with Pittsburgh last season with a 2.79 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He will serve as Jonathan Quick's understudy.
Jul 1 - 1:53 PM

Jeff Zatkoff and the Penguins know that their work is far from finished.

That might seem obvious, but outside of the Penguins, there are some looking at Pittsburgh's championship with a certain degree of inevitability. Pittsburgh has yet to trail in the Stanley Cup Final and teams that take a 3-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final are 31-1 and perfect since the conclusion of World War II. But while the Penguins' victory is now highly probable, things can change quickly.
Jun 7 - 6:32 PM

It'll be Matt Murray and not Jeff Zatkoff in net for the Penguins in Tuesday's Game 3 against the Rangers.

Zatkoff turned away 59 of 65 shots through the first two games of the series, which includes stealing the Game 1 victory. He'll be Murray's backup until otherwise noted.
Apr 19 - 6:38 PM

Jeff Zatkoff could be in goal again for the Penguins on Tuesday night in Game 3.

He started the first two games of the series and was excellent in Game 1. Zatkoff struggled in Game 2 though when he allowed four goals on 28 shots. He was the first goaltender off the ice at the morning skate even though Matt Murray was in the starter's crease for the session. It hasn't been confirmed yet who will start, but it seems probable that Zatkoff will get the nod.
Apr 19 - 12:36 PM

Jeff Zatkoff allowed four goals on 28 shots in Pittsburgh's 4-2 loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

Zatkoff kept the Rangers off the scoresheet in the first period, but he had a tougher time in the second, as New York scored three goals in the middle frame. Starter Marc-Andre Fleury was a game-time decision for this game before being ruled out. It's unclear if he'll be able to make an appearance in Game 3. If he can't go, Zatkoff will be forced to make his third straight start. Zatkoff has a 1-1 record with a 3.07 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage this postseason.
