Jeff Zatkoff might not end up with a role in the Los Angeles Kings' organization.
Los Angeles put Zatkoff on waivers Tuesday after he failed to win the battle for the backup goaltender role, but he might not end up getting playing time in the AHL either. The Kings already have Cal Petersen taking up a netminding slot in the AHL and they still have two goalies competing for the Kings' backup role in Darcy Kuemper and Jack Campbell. Either of Kuemper or Campbell could end up splitting the AHL goaltending duties with Petersen, leaving Zatkoff as the odd man out. That being said, Kuemper or Campbell would need to clear waivers to be sent down, so it's possible that the Kings logjam will be sorted for them. Sep 27 - 5:04 AM

Los Angeles has put Jeff Zatkoff on waivers.

Darcy Kuemper and Jack Campbell are competing for the backup role behind Jonathan Quick. Zatkoff had a 2-7-1 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage in 13 games with the Kings last season.
Sep 26 - 2:54 PM

Jeff Zatkoff was sent to AHL Ontario on Saturday following Jonathan Quick's activation from injured reserve.

The 29-year-old has seen 14 games with the Reign this season, posting a 4-7-1 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA. Which are by far better than his NHL marks this season through 13 games.
Feb 25 - 3:39 PM

Despite clearing waivers, Jeff Zatkoff will remain with the Kings for now.

Jonathan Quick is still sidelined, but now the Kings know they can send Zatkoff to the minors once Quick is ready to play. The Kings might also still end up trading Zatkoff. While it might seem odd that a team would acquire Zatkoff after they declined to claim him on waivers, if they had done so then he would have had to remain on their NHL roster. By acquiring Zatkoff now, after he cleared waivers, he can be stored in the AHL for now to add some extra goaltending depth without requiring an NHL roster spot.
Feb 23 - 4:10 PM

Jeff Zatkoff went unclaimed on waivers.

We'll have to wait and see if the Kings decide to send Zatkoff to the AHL. It will likely happen eventually as Jonathan Quick is getting close to returning, but Quick isn't expected to return just yet. With that in mind, Zatkoff might spend another week or two with Los Angeles.
Feb 23 - 12:12 PM

Jeff Zatkoff has been placed on waivers.

The Kings appear to be preparing for Jonathan Quick's return to the lineup, but this doesn't mean it's imminent. Zatkoff has played in just 13 games this season, while posting a 2-7-1 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage.
Feb 22 - 12:28 PM

Jeff Zatkoff came in relief of starter Peter Budaj and held the fort nicely on Sunday against the Capitals.

Zatkoff played only the third period and stopped four of five shots as the Kings fell 5-0. He has started just eight times this season.
Feb 5 - 2:51 PM

Los Angeles goalie Jeff Zatkoff allowed three goals on only 17 shots during the Kings' 3-2 loss to the Rangers in New York Monday night.

Zatkoff has not won since Dec. 15 (four appearances). His record is 2-7-1. His goals-against average is 2.94 and his save percentage is .881. Needless to say, he shouldn't be your fantasy goalie.
Jan 23 - 11:08 PM

Jeff Zatkoff will get the start in Monday's game against the New York Rangers.

Zatkoff hasn't won since Dec. 15 (three appearances). He has 2-6-1 record with a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage in 2016-17.
Jan 23 - 6:31 PM

Jeff Zatkoff struggled, allowing four goals on 22 shots in a 4-0 loss to Detroit on Thursday.

He got zero goal support but did allow three goals in the first period. The Kings outshot the Red Wings 34-22 as well so it doesn't look good on the Kings backup goalie right now. He's 2-5-1 with a 2.99 GAA and .884 save percentage. Not a good spot start for a struggling Kings team.
Jan 6 - 2:15 AM

It's confirmed that Jeff Zatkoff will be in net against the Red Wings on Thursday.

Through nine games this season he has a has a 2-5-1 record, 2.84 GAA, and .892 save percentage, so you may wish to find a more favorable matchup.
Jan 5 - 8:02 PM

Jeff Zatkoff is projected to start for Los Angeles Thursday night.

It would be Zatkoff's first contest since Dec. 23. He has a 2-5-1 record, 2.84 GAA, and .892 save percentage in nine games this season.
Jan 5 - 4:14 PM

Jeff Zatkoff allowed three goals on 31 shots in Friday's 3-2 OT loss to the Dallas Stars.

Zatkoff has now dropped three of his last four starts. The Kings got the first goal of the game, but Dallas responded by scoring the next two. Jeff Carter's second goal of the game forced overtime, but Esa Lindell beat Zatkoff in the extra frame to give Dallas the win. Zatkoff has a 2-5-1 record with a 2.38 goals-against-average and a .892 save percentage.

The Kings will entrust their crease to Jeff Zatkoff on Friday night against the Stars.

Through eight games and five starts this season, the original backup to Jonathan Quick has posted a 2-5 record with 16 goals against and an .890 save percentage.
Fri, Dec 23, 2016 08:05:00 PM

Jeff Zatkoff stopped 17 of 18 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Only Wings defenseman Mike Green was able to beat Zatkoff tonight. This was just Zatkoff's second win of the season. He has a 2-5-0 record in 2016-17. He might start to steal more starts away from Peter Budaj, but neither goalie will be a reliable option in standard fantasy leagues.
