Wayne Simmonds fractured his left leg in the Flyers 4-1 win over Chicago on Wednesday and will be out for the rest of the season.

The Flyers official website broke the news that he and Andrew MacDonald were going to be out for the remainder of the season. Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia later reported that Simmonds fractured his left leg while McDonald has a fractured right hand. Simmonds' 28 goals leads the Flyers as does his 14 power-play goals, which also ranks third overall in the NHL. He also has 22 assists for a total of 50 points, having appeared in all 75 games for the Flyers this season.

Sure, plenty of Philadelphia Flyers feasted in a 7-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings. Simmonds had an outstanding all-purpose day: one goal, two assists, 14 PIM, two SOG and two hits in just 12:24 TOI.

Simmonds managed to do what he does so well, find the front of the net and put home the puck at a clutch time. Just 1:50 after Michael Del Zotto tied the game at one in the third period, Simmonds redirected a Mark Streit pass through traffic and behind Brian Elliott. The goal was his team-leading 26th, and team-leading sixth winner of the season. He also ranks third on the team with 44 points.

Simmonds beat Capitals' goaltender Braden Holtby with a nice wrist-shot to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Sean Couturier and Matt Read picked up assists on Simmonds' goal. The 26-year-old has 19 goals and 33 points in 52 games this season. Mark Streit and Jakub Voracek also scored for Philadelphia.

Both reached the 400 game mark on the same game last season and the last time either one was out of the lineup was 170 games ago. The two are great friends and room together on the road. "It's a little bit weird," Simmonds said, "but it's really cool, at the same time. I remember when I got my concussion during the lockout year, I missed three games. He had three games on me. Wayne Simmonds and the rest of the Flyers were shut out on Thursday night versus Vancouver, though the 26-year-old did get on the board with a fight.

Simmonds took on Kevin Bieksa early in the game, but the Canucks opened the scoring while he was in the box and the Flyers were not able to respond. SImmonds will look to add to his 28 points this season on Saturday in Buffalo.
