Wayne Simmonds recorded his fifth goal of the season and added an assist for the Flyers in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks.
Simmonds has been one of the few bright spots for the Flyers in an otherwise dreadful start to the year, having registered five goals and two helpers through four contests. While he hasn't spent any time in the sin bin yet, he'll surely garner his fair share of PIM as the year wears on. Mark Streit and Jakub Voracek also scored for Philadelphia in the losing effort. Wayne Simmonds scored two times for the Flyers, who blew a big third-period lead in their 4-3 shootout loss to the Canadiens on Saturday night.

Sure, Philadelphia still earned a point, but this appeared like more of the same for a Flyers team that is leaky on the back end and really not all that good between the pipes as it saw a 3-0 lead early in the second period disappear. They have a great group of forwards, though, and Simmonds now has four goals and five points on the year. He is an excellent fantasy player, with 30-goal, 70-point upside, to go with 100-plus penalty minutes. Michael Raffl had the other goal in the loss.

Wayne Simmonds had no problems with New Jersey's defense in Thursday night's opener, notching three points.

He capped off the Flyers' big push to tie the game at three late in the second, with a sweet display of patience below the circle to make it 3-2. Then his trademark garbage goal to tie it 56 seconds later on the powerplay. Simmonds third point was the primary assist on Vincent Lecavalier's tying goal in the third, although it was merely a breakout pass.

Simmonds had three hits, but no shots on goal in Philadelphia's 2-1 loss to Boston. He also logged 16:13 minutes in his season debut.

Wayne Simmonds (foot) took part in Wednesday's morning skate.

Simmonds was questionable for Wednesday's season opener, but he will play after all. He had 60 points and 106 penalty minutes in 82 games last season.
Oct 8 - 12:12 PM

Wayne Simmonds (foot) is probable for Philadelphia's season opener.

Simmonds felt good during the Flyers' practice on Tuesday. A final decision on Simmonds availability won't be made until Wednesday.
Oct 7 - 1:24 PM

Wayne Simmonds (foot) was back at practice on Monday and coach Craig Berube was encouraged by what he saw.

"He looked good. Finsihed the whole practice and did some extra skating," Berube said. "We'll see tomorrow, but he looked fine." Simmonds commented that he didn't experience any ill effects from the session and he hopes to be in the lineup for Wednesday's season opener versus Boston. He injured his foot last Tuesday when he blocked a shot in an exhibition game.
Oct 6 - 5:35 PM

Wayne Simmonds has been seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot.

We already knew Simmonds had a lower-body injury and that certainly narrows it down. He's questionable for the Flyers' season opener on Wednesday.
Oct 6 - 6:08 AM

Wayne Simmonds (lower body) missed practice on Friday and his status for the season opener in Boston on Wednesday is in doubt.

Simmonds traveled with the team to Cape Cod for a bonding trip. Simmonds is a great combination of points and penalty minutes as well as seeing plenty of time on the power play. He had 29 goals and 60 points last season and could improve on that this year. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Oct 4 - 8:52 AM

Wayne Simmonds won't dress in Philadelphia's last preseason game Thursday because of a lower-body injury.

His status for the Flyers' regular season opener is unclear, but he will travel with the team to Cape Cod for their bonding trip. That's a good sign, but consider him day-to-day for now.
Oct 2 - 4:39 PM

Wayne Simmonds is going to be one of the Philadelphia Flyers' assistant captains in 2014-15, according to Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post.

With Scott Hartnell now in Columbus and Kimmo Timonen's career in doubt, there was a clear void in leadership hierarchy. The 26-year-old Simmonds is coming off a career season in goals (29) and points (60) with five seasons left on his contract.

The Score points out that the Philadelphia Flyers boasted a great mix of specialists on their power play.

Claude Giroux mainly runs the show, but Wayne Simmonds is a great presence near the net. The question is whether losing Scott Hartnell will hurt spacing. Still, one big takeaway from The Score's breakdown might be that Simmonds' PP production could be reliable.

The Philadelphia Flyers tried to get the first overall pick from the Florida Panthers last week, but they weren't interested in giving up Wayne Simmonds in the deal.

That's the word from Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal, who said Simmonds may be as close to "untouchable as there is on the Flyers’ roster." Matheson said the Flyers likely were inclined to offer Matt Read, Luke Schenn or Braydon Coburn along with unloading Vincent Lecavalier's contract. Panthers defenseman Erik Gubranson may have also been part of the package coming to the Flyers.
Jul 5 - 9:56 AM

Wayne Simmonds netted a hat trick to fuel Philadelphia to a season-saving 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all Game 7 Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

The Flyers finally came alive with their season on the line, as the Rangers clearly had a firm grasp of momentum through the first five games of the series. Simmonds scored the first, second and fourth Flyer goals of the night, as the home side broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first 40 minutes. The 25 year old has four goals and an assist through six games in the post-season.
Apr 29 - 10:31 PM

Wayne Simmonds' 29 goals don't just represent a new career-high; he also topped all Philadelphia Flyers players this season.

Simmonds scored two tallies to push that total to 29. He blew away his previous career-highs in points, too, as now has 60 on the season (his previous ceiling was 49). When you add his 106 PIM and 209 SOG (not to mention 15 of those goals being PPG), it's easy to see why Simmonds is one of the best power forward options in fantasy.
