Alec Martinez seems fairly happy with how he's done so far in his return from a concussion.

After missing roughly a month-and-a-half, Martinez returned on Monday and played again Tuesday night. "I think sometimes the second game is actually harder than the first just because you have a lot of energy and you're really excited to be back," Martinez said. "You kind of feed off that adrenaline of not having played in a while, but it was good. I felt a little bit better than I thought I would in terms of my legs and my lungs and all of that. But I think there were a few reads here and there that I could've made better or quicker. There is room for improvement, but all-in-all I felt pretty good." Martinez was logging over 20 minutes per game prior to the injury, but he has averaged just 15:43 minutes of ice time per contest in his two games since returning. That should tick upwards, although he might not fully regain his old role due to the presence of trade acquisition Andrej Sekera.
Mar 26 - 9:33 AM

Alec Martinez (concussion) has been taken off of the injured reserve list.

Martinez started to participate in battle drills on Tuesday, so it's not surprising to see him activated now. He has five goals and 17 points in 45 contests in 2014-15. While he doesn't have much fantasy value in standard leagues, his return might allow the Kings to lighten Drew Doughty's workload marginally.
Mar 20 - 4:37 PM

Alec Martinez (concussion) took part in battle drills on Tuesday.

Martinez is getting pretty close to returning to the Kings' lineup, but he probably won't be back on Wednesday. If he returned within the next week, it wouldn't be shocking, but concussed players typically don't have timetables. We wouldn't count on anything until Los Angeles confirms a return date for him.
Mar 17 - 4:22 PM

Alec Martinez is getting close to returning to practice as he recovers from a February 9 concussion.

Martinez spent close to an hour on Friday skating and working on some drills with associate coach John Stevens. The Kings could use him back in their lineup but will not rush him back. He has five goals and 17 points in 45 games this season.
Mar 14 - 7:49 AM

Alec Martinez (concussion) went for a skate on Friday.

The Kings had picture day Friday and thus there was no practice but Martinez skated after the photo session. He was injured on February 9 and is on the injured reserve list. He has five goals and 17 points in 45 games this season.
Mar 7 - 7:57 AM

Alec Martinez (concussion) might be able to start skating this week.

Martinez has missed 10 straight games due to his symptoms. The Kings have bolstered their defense by acquiring Andrej Sekera, but Martinez is still likely to play a substantial role once he's healthy. Martinez has five goals and 17 points in 45 games this season.
Mar 3 - 4:13 PM

Alec Martinez was placed on injury reserve retroactive to Feb. 9th with a concussion.

The move frees up what remains of Martinez's $1.1M cap hit. The defenseman has five goals and 17 points in 45 games this season. And as with all concussions, there is no timetable for his return.
Feb 26 - 11:09 PM

Alec Martinez is working out on a stationary bike and is following the proper protocol after suffering a concussion on February 7.

There is no word on when Martinez will be able to return to the ice, let alone resume playing. The defenseman has five goals and 17 points in 45 games with a plus-11 rating. The Kings miss him on the blueline.
Feb 21 - 7:39 AM

Kings' head coach Darryl Sutter said that Alec Martinez is day-to-day with concussion-like symptoms.

Martinez left Saturday's game against Tampa Bay after he took a hit from Cedric Paquette. The 27-year-old has five goals, 17 points and a plus-11 rating in 45 games this season. This particular concussion doesn't appear to be serious.
Feb 8 - 3:47 PM

Alec Martinez celebrated his new contract in style by notching a goal and an assist in LA's 4-0 win over Arizona on Thursday night.

Jarret Stoll had a pretty tip-in of Martinez's late second period shot to chase Mike Smith from the net, but he was able to notch a power play goal of his own in the third thanks to a Dustin Brown screen. Two shots, well technically one, and two power play points. Plus two hits and four blocks in over 21 minutes of work, surely pleasing everyone.

Alec Martinez has inked a six-year, $24 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings.

Martinez was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's been a bargain for the Kings at an annual cap hit of $1.1 million over the last two seasons, so it's no surprise that he's getting a big raise now. He logs big minutes for Los Angeles, but his offensive upside is somewhat limited. He had 22 points in 61 contests in 2013-14 and has seven points in 18 games so far this season. With Martinez signed, the Kings now have six defensemen locked up to one-way deals, although one of them is Slava Voynov, who has been suspended indefinitely while he faces a felony domestic violence charge.

Alec Martinez (finger) was able to return to the Kings' lineup on Tuesday.

Martinez had two shots on goal in 19:01 minutes of ice time. It was his first game since Nov. 13. "It felt good to be back playing again," Martinez said. "It's not too much fun being out. As for my game, I'm not too happy with it. I had to shake off a little bit of rust. I know I've got a better game in me next game. At the end of the day, we got the two points. That's all I care about."

Alec Martinez (finger) isn't likely to return on Tuesday as was initially hoped.

Martinez did participate in Monday's battle drills though. He's continuing to make progress, but he's reluctant to offer a timetable at this stage.
