Alec Martinez celebrated his new contract in style by notching a goal and an assist in LA's 4-0 win over Arizona on Thursday night.
Jarret Stoll had a pretty tip-in of Martinez's late second period shot to chase Mike Smith from the net, but he was able to notch a power play goal of his own in the third thanks to a Dustin Brown screen. Two shots, well technically one, and two power play points. Plus two hits and four blocks in over 21 minutes of work, surely pleasing everyone. Dec 5 - 12:55 AM

Alec Martinez has inked a six-year, $24 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings.

Martinez was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's been a bargain for the Kings at an annual cap hit of $1.1 million over the last two seasons, so it's no surprise that he's getting a big raise now. He logs big minutes for Los Angeles, but his offensive upside is somewhat limited. He had 22 points in 61 contests in 2013-14 and has seven points in 18 games so far this season. With Martinez signed, the Kings now have six defensemen locked up to one-way deals, although one of them is Slava Voynov, who has been suspended indefinitely while he faces a felony domestic violence charge.

Alec Martinez (finger) was able to return to the Kings' lineup on Tuesday.

Martinez had two shots on goal in 19:01 minutes of ice time. It was his first game since Nov. 13. "It felt good to be back playing again," Martinez said. "It's not too much fun being out. As for my game, I'm not too happy with it. I had to shake off a little bit of rust. I know I've got a better game in me next game. At the end of the day, we got the two points. That's all I care about."

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alec Martinez's recovery period is worse than day-to-day, says head coach Darryl Sutter.

It's difficult to tell what, exactly, that means but it sounds like the defenseman is still having some trouble with his stitches. Perhaps the team will provide a more concrete update in the future.

That's not terribly surprising given that it's already been a little over a week since he sustained the injury, but we're updating you nevertheless. Martinez has been skating on his own, but Kings coach Darryl Sutter warned that it will "take some time" for his finger to heal.
