Sandis Ozolinsh (remember him?) was Latvia's flag bearer for the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Olympics.

Ozolinsh, who still plays in the KHL, had a remarkable NHL career as a seven time All-Star, a Stanley Cup Champion in 1996 and a Norris Trophy finalist in 1997. He will play for Latvia in Group C during the hockey competition. The Bruins' Zdeno Chara waved Slovakia's flag during the ceremonies, while women's hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser carried the Canadian flag. Retired Russian goaltending legend Vladislav Tretiak was given the tremendous honor of lighting the Olympic torch.

Sandis Ozolinsh picked up three assists in Saturday night's defeat at the hands of the Red Wings.

Ozolinsh now has 11 points in 28 games for the Sharks this season, which probably doesn't have enough value to warrant a roster spot on your team. The Sharks are struggling to find scoring from the blue-line as they only have 11 goals from their defensemen this season. If the Sharks want to be Stanley Cup contenders they will need to pick up scoring in that department.

Sandis Ozolinsh has been a healthy scratch for the Sharks in the last three games.

Doug Murray has been playing in his place. Ozolinsh was once a very highly offensive defensemen, but those days appear to be long gone. He does not have enough value to warrant a roster spot, but if he happens to you on your active roster you might want to pick up another defensemen as these healthy scratches probably isn't good for your team.

Sandis Ozolinsh scored the lone goal for the Sharks on Saturday night in a blow out.

Ozolish has played well for the Sharks since signing with them earlier on this season. He has six points in 16 games so far this season, and getting plenty of time on the Sharks power-play unit. If you are in need of a fourth defenseman, Ozo might just be the man you are looking for.

Sandis Ozolinsh is running the power play in San Jose.

The Sharks needed a veteran presence on the blueline during the power play and Ozolinsh has been the man in his six games for the Sharks. "He's been exactly the kind of defenseman we needed, someone with poise to run the point on the power play," coach Ron Wilson said. "Sometimes it's too much to ask a young guy to do that. It's mayhem out there. But now young guys can watch Sandis and say, 'Wow, that's how you do it.' " It looks like Ozolinsh at age 35 still makes a good fantasy pickup.

Sandis Ozolinsh played over 20 minutes in Friday night's game against the Kings.

Ozolinsh is trying to make a comeback after being cut by the Rangers earlier this season. He is on the downside of his career and probably doesn't warrant a pickup to your fantasy team as of right now.

Sandis Ozolinsh is back in San Jose after playing two games with the Sharks' AHL affiliate in Worcester.

The veteran defenseman is trying to make a comeback with the team that drafted him after years of alcohol and injury problems. Ozolinsh did register an assist in his second game with the Baby Sharks. San Jose Assistant Manager Wayne Thomas said not to read too much into Ozolinsh's return as it is "just part of the process". If Ozolinsh could ever get himself back together, he could be surprisingly productive from a fantasy perspective.

The San Jose Sharks have sent unsigned Sandis Ozolinsh to the minors.

He will play in Worcester. "Hopefully he can play a couple games down there and see where he is," coach Ron Wilson said. Don't expect anything fantasy-wise from Ozolinsh at this stage of his career.

Sandis Ozolinsh is working hard to make the Sharks in his professional tryout despite not being permitted to play in pre-season games.

He cannot play in the exhibition schedule because he is a member of the NHL's substance abuse program after a drunk driving guilty plea in June 2006. He has worked very hard to overcome those mental demons and he has worked diligently on his conditioning as well. However, it will be difficult for him to make the team under these circumstances.

Sandis Ozolinsh is unable to play in the pre-season.

This is due to the fact that he is in the NHL's substance abuse program, stemming from a drunk driving guilty plea in June 2006. So he will have to make the team based on his performance in practices. "Zets (assistant coach Ron Zettler) says it's a totally different body than the last time he was here," coach Ron Wilson said. That does bode well for Ozolinsh. Stay tuned.
