Steve MacIntyre has been brought up by Pittsburgh.

He has totaled 70 penalty minutes and no points in 29 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scrantonin in the AHL this year. It wouldn't be surprising to see MacIntyre suit up Friday against Boston to add some muscle to Pittsburgh's lineup.

Enforcer Steve MacIntyre has re-signed with the Penguins for two seasons.

The contract will pay MacIntyre $625,000 if he plays in Pittsburgh and much less if he skates in the AHL. MacIntyre has value in pools with penalty minutes as a positive category.

MacIntyre had no points and six penalty minutes in 12 NHL games this season. You would have to be in a very deep league to be considering drafting him in 2012-13.

Forward Steve MacIntyre has been recalled by the Pittsburgh Penguins from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton chiefly to look out for teammate Joe Vitale in today's presumably rough rematch of the Pens and Philadelphia Flyers.

MacIntyre is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound forward is known for his fighting skills. He'll be aiming to protect center Joe Vitale, who legally hit the Flyers' Danny Briere last Sunday. The check, however, sparked fights and hot-headed coaches. We really don`t know what there is (waiting) for Joe," Penguins forward Craig Adams said, "but I don`t think Joe should worry about anything. He didn`t do anything wrong, and he`s going to have a lot of guys watching his back."

Steve MacIntyre has been placed on waivers by Pittsburgh.

Steve MacIntyre hasn't fought in an NHL game this season, but it's not for lack of desire.

MacIntyre had a whopping 93 penalty minutes in 34 games last season, but he has just two in nine games in 2011-12. "I might get into trouble saying what I want to say," MacIntyre said. "Let's just say the league is changing. It's definitely harder to find willing participants. I'm at a loss for words." Ultimately, MacIntyre doesn't play often enough to make him worth having in standard leagues, but his lack of PIMs kills his value in even the deepest of leagues.

Steve MacIntyre is happy to protect his star player teammates as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"They're a little more take-the-bull-by-the-horns here," he said. "I like that. It's a good test for me." The Penguins tallied second most fights in the NHL last season and the protection of Sidney Crosby will be of paramount importance when he eventually makes his return. MacIntyre is a top heavyweight, who should help fill the void left by free agent departures Eric Godard and Mike Rupp. He might sit as a scratch some nights, but it looks like he'll see enough action to warrant consideration in the penalty minute category this season. Keep an eye on him.
