Steve MacIntyre (knee) is getting close to returning to action.

The knee injury suffered by Steve MacIntyre Friday could be more serious than originally thought.

The Oilers went out and claimed the tough Luke Gazdic off waivers from Dallas to take MacIntyre's spot. Ironically, MacIntyre attempted to hit Gazdic in the preseason game Friday, missed and was injured. He could be out a while in which case he loses all his fantasy value in penalty minutes.

Steve MacIntyre exited his first preseason game with Edmonton in the second period with a knee injury.

He was attempting to throw a hit and ended up hobbling off the ice during the Oilers' loss to the Dallas Stars Friday night. He'll be evaluated in Edmonton this weekend to determine whether he'll be able to play when the regular season starts next week. In 91 NHL games, MacIntyre has four points and 175 penalty minutes, so you can judge from those numbers alone what kind of player he is and what role the Oilers wanted him to have.

Forward Steve MacIntyre has been recalled by the Pittsburgh Penguins from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton chiefly to look out for teammate Joe Vitale in today's presumably rough rematch of the Pens and Philadelphia Flyers.

MacIntyre is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound forward is known for his fighting skills. He'll be aiming to protect center Joe Vitale, who legally hit the Flyers' Danny Briere last Sunday. The check, however, sparked fights and hot-headed coaches. We really don`t know what there is (waiting) for Joe," Penguins forward Craig Adams said, "but I don`t think Joe should worry about anything. He didn`t do anything wrong, and he`s going to have a lot of guys watching his back."
