The signing of Milan Lucic will allow Patrick Maroon to move down the depth chart in Edmonton.
This is a good move by the Oilers as Maroon can now play on the third line and focus in on playing the top line on other teams. "With Pat, part of it is his conditioning and he’s getting better at it. We’ve sent someone out to look at him and he’s getting quite well-conditioned at this point of the summer," said GM Peter Chiarelli. "And now there’s a lesser match-up for Pat because we have Lucic. He’ll be against the top lines. You saw that in the playoffs. There was some really good players (Phil Kessel, Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino in Pittsburgh) benefiting from third-pairing match ups. Maroon had a career high 12 goals this season as well as 27 points. Look for similar numbers in 2016-17. Jul 3 - 9:13 AM

Mar 14 - 11:14 AM

Patrick Maroon has a goal and two assists in his first two games with the Oilers.

Maroon had only 13 points in 56 games with Anaheim before his trade to the Alberta capital. He is a tough and chippy player who is not afraid to get his nose dirty. "Maroon’s a long-term player for us because he’s got time (two more years) left on his contract. We’re well aware of his size and ability to hold onto pucks down low, and how he likes to go to the paint. It’s something we were lacking and what we sorely need. The addition of Maroon and (Zack) Kassian and Adam Pardy on the back-end gives us more meatiness in the lineup," said Oilers’ coach Todd McLellan.

It's been a disappointing season for Maroon, as he's posted just 13 points in 56 games with 54 PIMs and 114 hits thus far. Which, still, is more productive than Nikitin and Gazdic have been combined.
