Maroon is expected to be able to resume off-season training before the start of training camp, so his preparation for the 2018-19 campaign may not drastically altered. Unfortunately, it could hurt him as a pending unrestricted free agent.

The Devils will explore the possibility of re-signing Patrick Maroon.

Maroon is coming off a three-year, $6 million contract. He was acquired by the Devils from Edmonton and had three goals and 13 points in 17 games with New Jersey. Overall, he had 43 points in 74 contests in 2017-18. He recently expressed an interest in staying with the Devils, so we'll see if the two sides can find common ground in terms of money.

"I loved it here, my family loved it here," Maroon said of his time in New Jersey. "I knew a lot of guys here and it was a really easy transition, a good fit. But it’s what they want. They know what I bring to the table and what I do. It’s up to them." He's coming off a three-year, $6 million deal and is due for a raise.

Patrick Maroon scored New Jersey's only goal in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 5.

The loss ended the season for the Devils and the victory moved Tampa Bay into the second round of the postseason. Maroon got his team on the board at the 17:00 mark of the third period when goalie Cory Schneider was on the ice for an extra attacker. Kyle Palmieri, who was initially credited with the goal, and Will Butcher earned assists on the marker.
