Ryan Wilson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.
Wilson was limited to just three games in 2014-15. He was originally sidelined for a suspected head injury and when he tried to return on Oct. 21, he sustained his current shoulder problem. His three-year, $6.75 million contract is set to expire this summer and he might have a tough time getting another one-way deal after playing in just 43 contests over the life of that deal. Oct 13 - 3:12 PM

Ryan Wilson looks like a completely different player this preseason than he did in his subpar, injury-filled 2013-14 campaign.

He has shown up in tremendous shape and is playing with both a physical edge and an offensive flair in games and practices thus far. Wilson's play has improved to a large degree because he is completely healthy for the first time in three seasons. Keep an eye on Wilson as he could make a nice reserve roster pick.

Ryan Wilson received plenty of ice time against the Blackhawks Friday night in his return to action.

Wilson, who had not played in a game since November 6th due to a back injury, was on the ice for 21:25, second most on the team. He also skated on the team's power-play unit and took a number of shifts on the penalty kill. For his part, Wilson wasn't trying to do too much after missing seven weeks of games. "I just try and play my game, whatever I think I need to do that night," Wilson said. "Not do too much. Coming back from an injury like this, I'm going to be a little nervous and everything is going to be moving pretty quick but the thing is you have to keep it simple and play your game and just enjoy it." Wilson is only rosterable in the deepest of hockey pools.

Ryan Wilson will remain a healthy scratch on Monday.

Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy likes how his team is playing lately and consequently isn't prepared to shake up the lines to accommodate Wilson's return from a back injury. It wouldn't be surprising to see him play on Friday after the Christmas break.
