Mar 25 - 12:48 PM

Tomas Kundratek exited Thursday's game with an apparent leg injury early in the first period after Carolina forward Jeff Skinner fell on him.

He will return to Washington for an MRI and won't travel with the team to Boston for Saturday afternoon's match-up versus the Bruins. The Capitals are already thin on the back end because of injuries and losing Kundratek, who had topped 20 minutes of ice time in his previous six outings, would hurt their ranks further.
Mar 15 - 9:31 AM

Tomas Kundratek scored his first career goal Tuesday night and he added an assist in Washington's 4-3 overtime win over Boston.

He finished the contest with just over 23 minutes of ice time and a plus-2 rating. Kundratek, who has seven points in 20 games, has received a larger role with the club with Mike Green on the shelf with a groin injury.
Mar 6 - 1:35 PM

Tomas Kundratek logged a career-high 23:25 of ice time in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers.

He was presented with the opportunity to play alongside Karl Alzner in the contest because of Mike Green's lower-body injury and for the most part coach Adam Oates though he did a good job. Kundratek wants to improve his play in the defensive zone and his minus-7 rating shows that it may be a working progress. He has also posted four assists and 12 shots in 14 games this season.
Feb 21 - 1:57 PM

Tomas Kundratek has been called up by the Washington Capitals.

Kundratek has 13 goals and 26 points in 41 AHL games this season. "He’s been playing good down there," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "He’s a right shot defenseman and we’re short one. He played a little bit here last year and just [for] a little bit of balance." He played in five games with Washington last season, but didn't record a point.
Jan 21 - 2:45 PM

Tomas Kundratek notched two points in Hershey's 4-3 victory over Norfolk on Wednesday night.

Kundratek had a goal and an assist for his 18th point of the season, by far his best point-per-game mark in any season of his career. The 22-year-old is making a real case to be in the picture on defense for Capitals on opening night.

Tomas Kundratek had an assist in Hershey's 2-1 victory Friday night.

The Rangers shipped the blueliner to Washington a year ago because he disappointed and they had a solid corp. Kundratek has played very well in Hershey, with eight points in 10 games with the Capitals' AHL affiliate this year and could find himself with a spot on the third pairing in the NHL if there's a season.

Tomas Kundratek has been returned to AHL Hershey.

Kundratek participated in five games during his NHL stint, although he never logged more than 11:04 minutes in a single contest. "For me to play five games in NHL and get the experience, it's a lot of ice time," Kundratek said. "I think it's pretty good ice time."

Tomas Kundratek has been recalled by Washington and he'll make his NHL debut on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He has recorded six goals and two assists in 21 games with AHL Hershey this season. "He's been playing well down there so we wanted to give him a chance up here," coach Dale Hunter said. "He's a good skater, moves the puck and so we're anxious to take a look at him. We like his mobility, he can skate. If you're playing well down there you get to come up here and play."

The Capitals have acquired Tomas Kundratek from the Rangers for Francois Bouchard.

A third-round pick in the 2008 draft, Kundratek is more of a stay-at-home defenseman who has not put up a lot of points in the minors. He's a big rearguard, but he's also not amassed many penalty minutes at the AHL level, either. Do not expect any fantasy impact from the 21-year-old this season.
