Tomas Kundratek has successfully cleared waivers.
Kundratek has been sent to the minors, where he'll still make $550,000 in 2013-14. "What I talked to him about was, his skating is one of his best attributes," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "When he goes down there [to the AHL] he gets a little cocky with his skating and tries to do too much thinking he's invincible and you put yourself out of position. Down there is still a good league and he’s got to work on position play and staying within the boundaries of the system." He had a goal and six assists in 25 games with Washington last season. Tomas Kundratek has been placed on waivers.

Kundratek is owed $550,000 in 2013-14 regardless of whether he plays in the AHL or NHL. That being said, the Capitals will still free some much needed cap space by sending him to the minors in the event that he clears waivers. "We've got a logjam," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "Obviously, it's a salary era so there are those factors involved. I talked to him this morning. He's a good hockey player. If he gets picked up I hope he does well. And if he doesn't hopefully we see him again."

Washington Capitals re-sign Tomas Kundratek to two-year contract.

It's a one-way deal in 2013-14 that will pay Kundratek $500,000 regardless of whether he's on the Caps or their AHL affiliate. However, the contract switches to a two-way deal in 2014-15 that will see Kundratek earn $550,000 in the NHL and $150,000 in the AHL. The team extended him a qualifying offer earlier in the day. Kundratek won't affect your fantasy league next year.

Tomas Kundratek exited Thursday's game with an apparent leg injury early in the first period after Carolina forward Jeff Skinner fell on him.

He will return to Washington for an MRI and won't travel with the team to Boston for Saturday afternoon's match-up versus the Bruins. The Capitals are already thin on the back end because of injuries and losing Kundratek, who had topped 20 minutes of ice time in his previous six outings, would hurt their ranks further.

Tomas Kundratek logged a career-high 23:25 of ice time in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers.

He was presented with the opportunity to play alongside Karl Alzner in the contest because of Mike Green's lower-body injury and for the most part coach Adam Oates though he did a good job. Kundratek wants to improve his play in the defensive zone and his minus-7 rating shows that it may be a working progress. He has also posted four assists and 12 shots in 14 games this season.

Tomas Kundratek had an assist in Hershey's 2-1 victory Friday night.

The Rangers shipped the blueliner to Washington a year ago because he disappointed and they had a solid corp.
