Deryk Engelland will tag in for Ladislav Smid on Friday night against the Capitals.
Through 16 games Engelland has accumulated a pair of assists, 13 PIMs, 20 blocks, and 21 hits. Surely there are better subs you can find for a quick fill in tonight. Nov 13 - 6:46 PM

Deryk Engelland will be a healthy scratch on Thursday.

This move isn't about punishing Engelland so much as it is about getting Ladislav Smid some playing time. Engelland has two points in 16 contests this season.
Nov 12 - 12:40 PM

Deryk Engelland (undisclosed) took part in Thursday's practice.

Engelland exited Wednesday's skate before its conclusion. His issue was never believed to be serious and his return Thursday only reinforces that.
Oct 15 - 1:18 PM

Deryk Engelland didn't complete Wednesday's practice, but it sounds like he's not dealing with anything serious.

Flames coach Bob Hartley still expects Engelland to play on Friday, so for now this is just FYI. Engelland has no points and a minus-one rating in three contests.
Oct 15 - 9:13 AM

Deryk Engelland scored the Flames' lone goal in their 3-1 loss to Winnipeg on Thursday night.

Engelland will start the season as the Flames' fifth defenseman, and will play with whichever rookie Bob Hartley decides deserves the final blueline spot. Engy is not worth an add in fantasy leagues at this point.
Oct 1 - 11:58 PM

Deryk Engelland had a shift that lasted 3:22 minutes on Saturday.

To put that in perspective, Engelland's shift was 4.5 times longer than the league's average. In fact, Engelland was out there for so long that he ended up facing 18 of Vancouver's 20 players over the course of that shift. It wasn't by design as Engelland got caught out there for multiple icings against Calgary. Remarkably, it didn't end with Vancouver scoring. "There was definitely desperation," Engelland said. "You don't want to get scored on on any shift, and when you’'re out there that long, you are fatigued, and they are trying to take advantage of it."

The NHL has rescinded Deryk Engelland's instigator penalty from Game 2.

This is a huge break for the Flames as Engelland may have been suspended for his misdeeds. The Flames are hurting on the blueline and had Engelland been forced to sit out a game, they would have gone with the inexperienced Tyler Wotherspoon or veteran Corey Potter whom they lack confidence in at this time.

The Calgary Flames are hoping that defenseman Deryk Engelland gets his Game 2 instigator nullified so he can play against the Vancouver Canucks in Game 3 on Sunday.

The 33-year-old was credited with 42 PIM (as of the latest updates) on Saturday, likely justifying his spot in just about any fantasy-related lineup. It's difficult to imagine anyone in Game 3 approaching that havoc, especially since the league will have its eyes fixed to any shenanigans.
Apr 18 - 2:38 PM

Calgary's 4-1 series tying defeat by Vancouver ending with quite the bang, which was headlined by Deryk Engelland's 42 PIMs with just 77 seconds to go in the game.

Engelland, who recorded three hits and four blocks across 20:19 of work, unleashed his fury on everyone he could get his hands on. Let's go through it together: two counts of fights with Derek Dorsett, and three separate game misconduct penalties on top of an instigator minor brings us to a whopping 42 PIMs. There's word that Engelland could face a suspension for his surplus of misconducts, but Kris Russell is reportedly getting away with his Dustin Byfuglien-style cross-check, so Engelland might get off with a stern Vince McMahon-like warning instead. Stay tuned!
Apr 18 - 3:22 AM

Deryk Engelland scored twice for the Flames in a 4-3 shootout loss to Dallas on Wednesday.

Engelland was the unlikely scorer for the Flames as they earned a valuable point in the loss. The goals were Engelland's first two of the season. Johnny Gaudreau scored his 21st in the loss while Sean Monahan, Mason Raymond and Lance Bouma all picked up helpers.
Mar 26 - 1:40 AM

Deryk Engelland will play his first game against his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night.

The former 194th overall pick in the 2000 Entry Draft spent the first five years of his NHL career with the Penguins before signing a three-year $8.75M contract over the summer. "I’m sure it will be a little more anxious once we get to the rink. I’m looking forward to it. I had a lot of good years here so to go back and play against them should be a lot of fun."

Deryk Engelland (illness) returned to action on Saturday.

Engelland has only two assists in 20 games but the solid defensive defenseman had two hits and two blocked shots Saturday. He has some value if you play those categories but otherwise leave him on the waiver wire.

Deryk Engelland didn't play on Wednesday because he was feeling sick.

It sounds like Engelland's illness wasn't serious, so he'll probably be fine to play on Saturday. He has two assists in 19 games in 2014-15.
