The New York Islanders have activated Jesse Joensuu, who hasn't played this season because of a sports hernia injury, from injured reserve.

His suspension has also been lifted and he's now listed on the team's active roster.

He is hoping to make his season debut with the Islanders soon. Defenseman Matt Carkner is also close to playing, but won't on Tuesday.

It's the first time Joensuu skated with the team since he underwent surgery in late January. However, we imagine he'll need a few practices before returning to the lineup. Joensuu doesn't have a ton of fantasy value and should remain on waivers in most formats until he proves otherwise.

Jesse Joensuu is projected to miss the next two months after suffering a hand injury on Saturday while playing for Assat in Finland's top league.

He has been tearing up the SM-liiga with 11 goals and 24 points in 20 games this season. Joensuu will head into Tuesday's action in sixth place among the league's leading scorers. He played in the Swedish Elite League last season and hasn't played with the Islanders since the 2010-11 campaign. Joensuu received a one-year, one-way deal with New York back in June, so he's expected to return to the NHL once the lockout is over.

Jesse Joensuu potted his eighth SM-liiga goal for Assat on Thursday in a 4-3 loss against Karpat.

The Islanders winger has been great since returning to his old Finnish club. He has registered 13 points in 12 matches. Ottawa center Kyle Turris, who plays for Karpat, finished the game with an assist.

Joensuu has six goals and nine points in six games with Assat. He signed a one-year deal with the Islanders in the off-season after spending last season with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League. He will return to the Islanders if the lockout ends this season.

Jesse Joensuu will play for Porin Assat of the Finnish Elite League.

Joensuu will reportedly make his season debut on Saturday. Assat Pori is Joensuu's former team and he played with them as recently as 2007-08. He spent the 2011-12 campaign with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League, but he signed a one-year, one-way contract with the New York Islanders for the 2012-13 season.

Jesse Joensuu has agreed to a one-year, one-way contract with the New York Islanders.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. However, the contract does give him an European out clause. Presumably, he would consider exercising it if he doesn't make the Islanders out of training camp. He had 13 goals and 29 points in 50 Swedish Elite League games last season.
