Trevor Smith suffered a setback in the weight room when he suffered an injury unrelated to his broken hand.

"Trevor Smith is not available," coach Randy Carlyle said of his status for Thursday night. "Not the hand, if you can believe it. He hurt himself in the weight room. Look for Trevor Smith to be the odd center out Saturday night against the Capitals.

In rushes Saturday morning Peter Holland centered the Maple Leafs' first line alongside Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk, while Nazem Kadri centered the second unit between Joffrey Lupul and David Clarkson. Jay McLement was the pivot on the third line featuring Mason Raymond and Nikolai Kulemin, while Jerred Smithson centered Colton Orr and Frazer McLaren on the fourth unit. Adjust your roster accordingly.

Give Trevor Smith credit for taking advantage of the opportunity opened up by Toronto's lack of center options.

Smith scored a goal and two assists on Tuesday, giving him five points in his last three games. It's possible that his chances will dry up once Nazem Kadri returns from his suspension, so don't get too excited about Smith. Phil Kessel scored two goals despite flu-like symptoms and Joffrey Lupul had three assists in a 5-2 win Tuesday.

Trevor Smith looked very solid as the Maple Leafs's second line center in Friday's 3-1 loss to Buffalo.

He scored Toronto's only goal, hit the post on another occasion and looked very at home between David Clarkson and Mason Raymond. He should get another chance in that role Saturday in the return match against Buffalo. The Buds are ravaged with injuries down the middle and with the suspension to Nazem Kadri, someone had to assume the second-line pivot position. For now, Smith is the guy.
