Arturs Kulda joined his Winnipeg teammates at practice Tuesday for the first time since coming over from the KHL.

He hasn't played since his KHL club was eliminated from the playoffs on March 5. Coach Claude Noel said Kulda may get into some game action with Jets, but for now he'll skate with the team as a depth defender. "I trust his game," said Noel. "I don't know I'm going to judge on practice but I thought he was very good last year in the games. We'll see how he does in practice and we'll go from there."

According to Arturs Kulda's KHL team HC Sibir Novosibirsk, the defenseman is set to rejoin the Winnipeg Jets.

The club said that his contract, which was going to expire on April 30th, has been mutually terminated. Kulda notched nine goals, six assists and 55 penalty minutes in 50 games with Sibir Novosibirsk this season.

He cleared waivers on Wednesday and will resume playing for AHL St. John's. Kulda had six points and a plus-9 rating in 13 games with the IceCaps before being called up by Winnipeg.

Arturs Kulda was placed on waivers by Winnipeg on Tuesday.

He will rejoin the St. John's IceCaps in the AHL if he goes unclaimed. The Jets got Ron Hainsey back from injury on Tuesday night, so Kulda will continue to hone his craft at the minor-league level. He posted a plus-3 rating and eight shots in nine games with the Jets during his NHL stint with the team that began in mid-November.

Latvian defenseman Arturs Kulda earned a three-game suspension for his hit on Radek Martinek at the World Championships.

The hit occurred in the first period of a 4-2 win for the Czech Republic on Saturday. "The video showed Arturs Kulda jumping into the situation, hitting Martinek's head and neck area," said Chairman of the IIHF Disciplinary Panel Jan-Ake Edvinsson. Martinek is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament with a severe concussion and a severe bruise (hematoma).

The Thrashers are getting blueliner Tobias Enstrom back on Friday, so someone had to come out of the lineup. Kulda has no points and a minus-two rating in two games since being called up from AHL Chicago.

Arturs Kulda has been sent to AHL Chicago by the Atlanta Thrashers.

Kulda made his NHL debut last season and he ended up recording two assists in four games with the Thrashers. We wouldn't be surprised if he ends up enjoying at least one stint with Altanta this season, but he isn't expected to have any fantasy value.
