Thanks to his goal in Friday's 2-0 win over Vancouver, Matt Hendricks now has points in consecutive games.

The heart-and-soul leader for the Oilers is up to four goals and 11 points in 60 games thus far, so we'd let the six hits he threw speak a bit louder for his stat line.

Matt Hendricks, who described himself as "beat up," missed Wednesday's practice.

Hendricks is still hoping to play on Thursday, but his availability for that contest is in question. He has three goals and nine points in 56 games this season.
Mar 10 - 8:51 AM

Matt Hendricks practiced alongside Connor McDavid and Jordan Eberle on Wednesday.

That would be a big opportunity for Hendricks, but he's not counting on that line staying intact. "I think (head coach Todd McLellan) is just trying to send a message to a few other guys that we have to be a little smarter on the ice," said Hendricks on Wednesday. "I think that’s probably more what it is. It’s just practice; tomorrow could easily change." Benoit Pouliot is the man that had been playing alongside McDavid and Eberle, but even if Hendricks isn't the one that ends up in that role, it doesn't mean Pouliot will slide back in. It could end up being Zack Kassian that plays on that line, provided that Kassian is over his illness in time.
Feb 18 - 10:56 AM

Matt Hendricks potted a goal for the Oilers, who fell 2-1 in the shootout to the Jets on Saturday.

Hendricks scored a shorthanded goal in the third period to tie up the game. He also had five penalty minutes. Hendricks is nothing but a role player; thus, he has no fantasy value. The goal was his first since Dec. 2. He has three goals, nine points and 63 penalty minutes. Mark Fayne had the helper.
Feb 14 - 1:04 AM

He is taking the place of injured center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who is projected to miss at least six-to-eight weeks due to a hand injury.
Jan 19 - 12:20 PM

Matt Hendricks sat out the last game of his three game suspension Saturday.

Hendricks got the three games for a boarding incident with Aaron Ekblad of the Panthers. Hendricks can return to the lineup on Monday. Hendricks has seven points and 44 penalty minutes in 33 games this season so if you don't need penalty minutes, Hendricks is not a good choice for your fantasy team.
Jan 17 - 7:07 AM

Matt Hendricks, who was handed a three-game suspension for boarding, insists he wasn't trying to hurt Aaron Ekblad.

"I respect their decision and understand what they’re seeing, but I’m not that type of player," Hendricks said. "It wasn’t my intention to try and injure a player. I’m an aggressive player, I have been my whole career, and my record shows that I don’t viciously go after people or retaliate for things that have happened in the game. That’s not who I am. I’m an energy guy, I play hard. It’s unfortunate that it caused an injury, which I believe added another game." Hendricks served the first game of that suspension on Tuesday. He'll be eligible to return on Jan. 18.

Jan 11 - 5:25 AM

Matt Hendricks, who was the only Edmonton Oilers player not wearing a visor, has decided to start wearing one.

"It’s not a lot of fun, it has its negatives, no doubt," Hendricks said. "But my eyes are more important." Hendricks took a stick near his eye during Tuesday's contest, which is what prompted his change. There used to be a stigma associated with wearing a visor, but that's largely died because they've become mandatory. The reason why Hendricks even had the option not to wear them is because he joined the league before the rule change and there was a grandfathered clause.

Matt Hendricks will be a scratch on Sunday against Chicago, and Brandon Davidson will step in as a seventh defender.

The veteran forward Hendricks hasn't been a the steady supplier of tough guy stats this season through seven games. He's posted two points, eight PIMs, 13 blocks, and 18 hits. Not bad, but not the measure of excellence we'd come accustomed to. Davidson meanwhile has fared no better in his seven games this season.
