Jerome Samson is another player on the bubble to possibly make Winnipeg's roster.

He could just as easily open the season in the AHL though. "Not knowing where you're going to end up is stressful," Samson said. "But you have to take a day-by-day mentality and give all you have when given a chance." He will make $600,000 at the NHL level and $200,000 if he skates in the minors.

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Jerome Samson to a one-year, two-way contract.

Samson will earn $105,000 at the AHL level or $600,000 if he spends the 2012-13 campaign in the NHL. However, he will make at least $175,000 regardless of how much time he ends up spending in the minors. He had two goals and three assists in 16 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season.

Jerome Samson has been sent down to the minors by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Samson has two goals and five points in 16 NHL games in 2011-12. He's a great top-six forward at the AHL level, but he'll turn 25 in September, so he's running out of time to establish himself in the NHL before he starts being viewed as a depth player.

Samson has been playing alongside Eric Staal and is doing quite well since being called up by the big club a week ago. The 24-year-old winger was in the running for a roster spot with the Canes this past September but fell short. The Greenfield Park, Québec native has registered an impressive 256 points in 303 career AHL games but has yet to prove he belongs in the NHL. It might be his big chance.

Samson has 18 goals and 31 points in 41 AHL contests this season. Keep a close eye on Samson because if he does well, he might stay end up staying on the top line. Especially if the Hurricanes end up trading away a veteran forward or two before the Feb. 27 deadline.

The Hurricanes have recalled forward Jerome Samson from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old winger was in the running for a roster spot with the Canes this past September but fell short. However, this marks the second NHL recall this season for Samson, who scored his first NHL on Jan. 10 against Philadelphia. The Greenfield Park, Québec native has registered 256 points in 303 career AHL games.

The power-play marker was set up by Eric Staal and Justin Faulk in the second period. Samson finished the contest with five shots and 13:26 of ice time in his season debut. He skated in 23 games with the Hurricanes last year, but mustered just two assists over that span.

The 24-year-old right wing was leading the Checkers with 15 goals and was second with 27 points. While this is his first shot at the NHL in 2011-12, Samson has had two previous stints with the parent club. He is 0-4-4 in 30 games, including 23 last season with Carolina.
