Frazer McLaren has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with San Jose.
He suited up in 22 games with the Toronto Marlies last season and racked up 62 penalty minutes. McLaren has 11 points and 264 minutes in the sin bin over 102 career NHL contests. He will probably spend the vast majority of the 2015-16 season in the minors, but if he plays for the Sharks then he'll be someone to consider for PIMs. Aug 24 - 4:20 PM

Frazer McLaren understands that coach Randy Carlyle may do away with the team's enforcer position this season unless they can provide more than just fights.

"(NHL coaches) are putting a lot more emphasis on (fourth-liners) being able to play and being able to eat up those minutes out there," McLaren said. "So I think any designated fighter, they're trying to evolve as much as they can." He suited up in just 27 games with the Maple Leafs last season and he averaged a mere 4:00 minutes of ice time. Fellow pugilist, Colton Orr, appeared in 54 games in 2013-14 and he averaged just 5:22 of playing time per contest. If they are just going to take up space on the bench then their roster spots will probably be better served going to someone else.

He may get a chance to play Saturday with David Clarkson's status in doubt because of a leg injury. McLaren could be a good fit with the Leafs set to face the rambunctious Philadelphia Flyers.

Frazer McLaren is eligible to return from the injured list for Saturday night's game against Ottawa.

He has recovered from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for two weeks. The fact that Mclaren is eligible to play doesn't mean he will. Keep him benched until you see him in game action with his gloves on the ice.

Frazer McLaren has been a healthy scratch for Toronto's last four games.

He has compiled 62 penalty minutes in 20 games this season, which is the only reason why he should be on your fantasy radar. However, there are probably better options available at this time.
