Steve Pinizzotto will miss Tuesday's game with an illness.

Pinizzotto has been out since Thursday with the illness. "We don't anticipate that Steven's illness is something that will keep him out of the lineup for a protracted amount of time," assistant GM Laurence Gilman said. "He wasn’t feeling well. We had him assessed by our doctors and the decision was rendered to keep him away from the team. He's being assessed again today." Pinizzotto has picked up five penalty minutes and 11 hits, with no points in four games this season.

Steve Pinizzotto has been called up from the AHL and he might make his NHL debut Thursday.

"I haven't made up my mind yet but there's a chance he'll play tonight," coach Alain Vigneault said. "As a 28-year-old rookie, he should be pretty excited. What I remember about him from training camp (in 2011) is that he was an energy player, he gets in real hard on the forecheck, he had physical edge to his game and a real decent skill set." He has 12 points and 29 penalty minutes in 24 games with AHL Chicago this campaign. If he does play then it will likely be on the fourth line.

Steve Pinizzotto might have dislocated his shoulder during Sunday's preseason contest.

"He'll be re-evaluated, but I think they announced it was dislocated," coach Alain Vigneault said of Pinizzotto after the game. "He fell awkwardly there. It's unfortunate, we'll know more in the next couple of days how long it's going to be, but it should be a while. . .It's hockey, it's life, some stuff happens." Pinizzotto had been competing for one of the Canucks' fourth line roster spots. We'll keep you posted.

The Vancouver Canucks are very happy with the play of the tough Steve Pinizzotto.

Nine teams made an offer for the unrestricted free agent on July 1, pretty good for a 27-year-old who has never played a game in the NHL. The Canucks offered a two-way contract but offered $275,000 if he played in the minors and that was the best offer that Pinizzotto received. "There were a lot of teams trying to get him," Canucks assistant GM Lorne Henning said. "But he looked at our lineup and knew he would get a legitimate chance to make our team. Whenever we watched Hershey, he was always one of their best players. He was very strong, a gritty player who could skate and had decent hands. He was always on our radar." Pinizzotto has a shot to grab the last forward spot.

Steve Pinizzotto, who signed a one-year, two-way deal with Vancouver on Sunday, will earn $600,000 if he plays in the NHL next season.

If Pinizzotto ends up in the minors, then he'll make $275,000. Pinizzotto is 27 and he still hasn't made his NHL debut, but he's worth keeping an eye on during training camp. He can't be counted on to do much offensively at the NHL level, but he should spend a lot of time in the sin bin. He had 42 points and 178 penalty minutes in 68 AHL games last season.
