Nick Spaling (upper body) will likely play Monday, according to coach Mike Babcock.
He has sat out three games due to an upper-body injury. If Spaling plays then Daniel Winnik will be a healthy scratch. Spaling is projected to center the fourth line between Michael Grabner and Brad Boyes. Nov 23 - 6:18 PM

Nov 17 - 1:04 PM

Nick Spaling will draw back into the lineup Monday after missing three games with an undisclosed injury.

He has contributed one assist in seven games with the Maple Leafs.
Nov 2 - 1:20 PM

Nick Spaling has been moved to the injured reserve list.

This move is presumably retroactive to Oct. 24, so Spaling being on the IR doesn't say much about his recovery. This likely has more to do with the fact that Toronto took Jake Gardiner and Tyler Bozak off of the injured reserve list so that they can return Friday night.
Oct 30 - 4:38 PM

Nick Spaling (undisclosed) won't play Monday night.

In seven games with the Leafs this season, Spaling has one assist and six shots on goal. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Oct 26 - 2:39 PM

Nick Spaling was traded to the Maple Leafs in the Phil Kessel deal.

Spaling and his $2.2 million salary cap hit will move to Toronto where he will likely line up as a third-line winger. He could contribute modest offensive totals given his history in Nashville but we would not bet on him bettering his 27-point effort of 2014-15 in Pittsburgh with the rebuilding Maple Leafs.
Jul 1 - 1:55 PM

Nick Spaling scored Pittsburgh's only goal in their 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Rangers.

That will do it for the 2015 edition of the Penguins, as they have officially been eliminated by the Rangers. Pittsburgh came into this series as a clear underdog mainly because they were missing several key pieces on defense. Olli Maata, Kris Letang and Christian Ehrhoff were all held out of this series due to injury. It will be an interesting off-season for the Penguins. There have been many rumors that they may trade Evgeni Malkin or Sidney Crosby, but don't count on that happening.
Apr 24 - 10:28 PM

Nick Spaling and Daniel Winnik played center on Saturday.

The Penguins were weak down the middle when Sidney Crosby was forced to sit out due to illness and Evgeni Malkin went down early in the first with an upper body injury so Spaling and Winnik took over. The Penguins failed to score so needless to say, they missed their two superstars. Spaling was good on the draw, winning seven of ten while Winnik could only win 1-of-8.
Mar 15 - 10:02 AM

Nick Spalling scored a goal in Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to Chicago.

Penguins over two periods to get one by Corey Crawford but they eventually beat him. Beau Bennett did all the hard work entering the Chicago zone and Spaling finished the play off. The 26-year-old has now scored in two of his last three contests. Pittsburgh's third line of Spaling, Brandon Suter and Beau Bennett played well in the game. Spaling now has nine goals and 22 points in 52 games in his first season as a Penguin. Both David Perron and Sidney Crosby scored in the shootout, but it wasn't enough as the Blackhawks scored on all three of their attempts.
Feb 15 - 3:32 PM

Nick Spaling scored a goal in Pittsburgh's 4-1 win against Detroit.

Spaling snapped a six-game point drought. He has eight goals and 21 points in 54 contests in 2014-15.
Feb 12 - 9:44 AM

Nick Spaling has played with almost every Penguins' forward at some point this season.

"We said he's a versatile player and will probably play in a lot of different spots," Penguins coach Mike Johnston said of Spaling. "So far he has. If you track where he's played in our lineup, from center to wing, from top line, second, third line, he's played in every position." It makes Spaling one of those players that has immense value to his team, but limited use in standard league fantasy circles. At the end of the day, he's just not a major offensive threat, as illustrated by his six goals and 18 points in 42 games in 2014-15.
Jan 15 - 11:34 AM

Forward Nick Spaling scored a goal and added an assist Monday night in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers in New York.

Spaling's goal was his fourth of the season and his assist was his sixth. Steve Downie also collected a goal and an assist for the Pens. His goal, also his fourth of the season, tied the game at 3-3 with at 15:41 of the third period. Only 23 seconds earlier, Evgeni Malkin knocked in his 15th goal of the season to cut the Rangers' lead to 3-2.

Nick Spaling posted a goal and an assist in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 3-2 loss to the visiting Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday night.

They were his first goal and first assist of the season on a tough night for the Pens, whose leader, Sidney Crosby, wound up a minus-two. Pascual Dupuis (second) and Marcel Goc (first) delivered the Pens' other goals Wednesday, his second of the season. Evgeni Malkin grabbed his sixth assist of the season on the Dupuis goal.

Nick Spaling played center on Saturday.

Spaling moved from the wing to center on the third line as he was between Blake Comeau and Steve Downie while usual center Marcel Goc moved down to the fourth unit between Zach Sill and Craig Adams. "I don't think it changes anything," Spaling said. "Same gameplan. Same thing. Hopefully take advantage of a little more ice or whatever it brings. It doesn't change any way I'm approaching the game." Spaling is pointless in four games after getting 13 goals and 32 points for Nashville in 71 games last season.
Sun, Oct 19, 2014 08:40:00 AM

Nick Spaling has been playing the left wing on the third line in camp.

He is officially listed as a center but he played alongside Marcel Goc and Blake Comeau in what should be a good two-way line for the Penguins during the regular season. He has 13 goals and 32 points in 71 games last season and could improve slightly on those numbers this season.
