Eric Tangradi's goal may have bought himself a little more time on the Jets' roster.
He had played in all 16 games since being acquired from the Penguins, but he had no points to show for it. He scored in the first period on Thursday, in 4:48. "That felt great. I’ve been trying to contribute and I think I have with my size, but scoring is something I have to do as well," said Tangradi. "Hopefully this will give me more opportunity and I can build on this." Eric Tangradi admits it's weird to make his Winnipeg Jets debut against his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tangradi was traded to Winnipeg on Wednesday. "It's kind of like seeing your ex-girlfriend at the bar the next night," Tangradi joked. "It's a little bit different feeling. But I've got a mindset: No friends tonight. I've got new teammates on my side. I'm just going to try to play my game and be physical." If anything, getting to play against his former teammates so soon after being traded should provide Tangradi with extra motivation.

Winnipeg brought in Eric Tangradi and dealt out Alexei Ponikarovsky in two separate moves Wednesday.

"(Tangradi) is 24 years old and we're very hopeful that he's someone that, given an opportunity to play in our organization, is going to blossom," said GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. "It was really more about creating an opening and opportunity for Eric as opposed to anything with Alexei." Tangradi will probably slot into the club's third line, where he'll try to gain some traction at the NHL level following an unproductive stint in Pittsburgh.
Feb 14 - 8:28 AM

The Winnipeg Jets have acquired Eric Tangradi from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2013 seventh-round draft pick.

He couldn't muster a point in five games this season despite starting the year on a line with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal. He had been relegated to the press box prior to the trade. In 45 career NHL appearances, Tangradi has notched just one goal and four assists. Perhaps a fresh start will do him some good, but for now he's not worth owning in fantasy hockey.
Feb 13 - 5:55 PM

Eric Tangradi could be the odd man out in Pittsburgh after the Penguins claimed winger Zach Boychuk off waivers Thursday.

Boychuk is expected to skate alongside Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, which is the spot that Tangradi had occupied. The winger didn't receive a glowing endorsement from GM Ray Shero, either. "We'll see how the game goes," Shero said before Thursday's game against the Rangers. If you took a flier on Tangradi at some point, it's time to move on.
Feb 1 - 11:17 AM

Eric Tangradi couldn't get anything going alongside Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, so he has been demoted to the fourth line.

Despite seeing time with dynamic duo, Tangradi played very limited minutes in Pittsburgh's last two games. He saw 9:32 of ice time against New York last Sunday and logged just 4:27 versus Toronto on Tuesday. "I'm not frustrated, really. If I get back to playing my game and playing the right way, (playing with Malkin) might be an opportunity that arises in the future," he said. "I need to be better. I know that." Tangradi doesn't have any points after three games this season and he has just two shots on goal. If you took a flyer on him then it's time to cut bait.
Jan 25 - 8:38 AM

Eric Tangradi is slated to skate with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal on Monday.

During Sunday's session he practiced with Dustin Jeffrey and Neal, but Malkin is expected to take that spot when he arrives. "Eric Tangradi will be on the left, and James Neal will be on the right on (Monday)," coach Dan Bylsma said. Tangradi has only one goal and four assists in 40 career NHL contests, but he has never had the opportunity to play with Malkin or Sidney Crosby. Starting the year with Malkin and Neal as his linemates would obviously give his fantasy value a huge boost. However, that left wing spot is expected to be open and situational this year so it's unclear if Tangradi will hold onto the position.
Jan 14 - 1:34 PM

Eric Tangradi is likely to make the Penguins once the NHL lockout ends.

Tangradi has 10 goals and 15 points in 27 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Tangradi has been fortunate this season as he has been able to play in the AHL and not be on the sidelines waiting for the lockout to end. "There's no other league these kids can play in," assistant GM Tom Fitzgerald said. "Eric Tangradi is not going to get sent down [to the AHL]. He's not going to get called up. He's not going to be benched. He's not going to be scratched. He's not going to be yelled at. All he's worried about now is playing hockey, and playing it the right way. And his game has really elevated." Tangradi could possibly see time on a line with Sidney Crosby once the season starts and this possibility will give him some fantasy value in pools.

Eric Tangradi recorded a hat trick in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 3-1 win over Bridgeport on Friday night.

Many thought Tangradi had a good chance to play on Sidney Crosby's wing this year. Of course, that's been put on hold for now. With nine goals, Tangradi hasn't done much else to create offense (no assists), but he's still hinting at what could make him dangerous if he does indeed end up playing with Crosby.

Eric Tangradi has high goals as he plays for AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

"I want to be a top player in this league," Tangradi said. "I want to be someone defensemen and teams scout to try to shut down." He's off to a strong start with six goals in 11 AHL contests. He's been a great contributor offensively in the AHL, but that hasn't translated to the NHL yet. He has a goal and five points in 40 career NHL contests.

Eric Tangradi picked up a goal in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 3-0 win over Manchester on Friday night.

The winger isn't doing too much in the assist department, but he does have six goals already after putting up 15 in 37 games last year. Prospect Brian Dumoulin had an assist in the win.
Fri, Nov 2, 2012 10:29:00 PM

Eric Tangradi scored twice in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' 4-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch.

Tangradi has six goals in seven AHL games this season. He has a goal and five points in 40 career NHL games.
Sat, Oct 27, 2012 11:06:00 PM

Eric Tangradi recorded a goal and four penalty minutes in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 5-4 win over Rochester on Friday night.

Tangradi could be given the keys to a top-six role in the NHL, once the season gets underway. For now, though, he'll continue to bide his time in the AHL. He has two markers on the season.
Fri, Oct 26, 2012 10:13:00 PM

Eric Tangradi scored Saturday in Scranton's loss.

Instead of flanking Sidney Crosby on the first line in Pittsburgh, Tangradi is spending some more time in the AHL during the lockout. It was the 23-year-old's first goal of the season, after a 31-point campaign in 2011-12
Sat, Oct 20, 2012 10:56:00 PM

Eric Tangradi has agreed to an AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to start the season.

He might have received a chance to play alongside Sidney Crosby during training camp, which would've been a great way to start the 2012-13 campaign if the move proved successful, but now he'll have to begin work in the minors due to the lockout. Tangradi split time between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season, but he mustered just two assists in 24 NHL appearances.
