Michael Stone (knee) remains questionable for the Coyotes' season opener on Saturday.

If anything it sounds like Stone's chances of playing are less than 50-50 as Coyotes coach Dave Tippett recently described the possibility of him playing as "a little aggressive." Stone has been cleared for contact, but he didn't end up playing in any preseason games.

Michael Stone (off-season knee surgery) could miss the Coyotes opener Saturday.

Stone has been given the green light to participate in contact drills but he still needs to get up to snuff as he missed training camp. The Coyotes will likely use him alongside Alex Goligoski to start the season and a repeat of his 36 point effort of last season could be in the cards for the Coyote blueliner.

Oct 1 - 12:34 PM

Michael Stone (knee) left practice on Saturday early.

Stone had off-season knee surgery in April and has been easing into training camp as he has been wearing a non-contact jersey thus far. "We got him and Goligoski both on the baby watch these days," coach Dave Tippett said. Stone had 36 points last season with plenty of time on the power play so look for more of the same this season as it's unlikely that Alex Goligoski will take away too much power play time from him.

Michael Stone is still recovering from his knee surgery.

Stone is hoping to be ready for the start of the regular season, but admits that this off-season hasn't been easy. "These four months (of) me not being on my skates, that’s probably the longest I’ve gone since I was 4 years old," Stone said. "It was a little bit of an adjustment at the start, but it came back quickly. Just the quads burn, muscles that I used in the gym but not on the ice. It’s a completely different feeling, so that’s coming." This is a big year for Stone, as he signed a one-year, $4 million contract this summer. A great performance on the ice could lead to him getting a huge pay day.
