The team is hopeful that he will be able to play before the regular season ends though.

Tyson Strachan suffered an undisclosed upper-body ailment late in Tuesday's loss to the Islanders.

He finished the contest with four shots and a minus-2 rating in 12:13 of ice time. Consider him day-to-day for now.

It appears that Tyson Strachan will not be suspended for his hit on Jason Chimera this past Thursday.

The NHL reviewed the open-ice hit that appeared to target Chimera's head and concluded that it was not worthy of discilpine beyond the penalites assessed in the game. The good news is that Chimera was able to return to the contest after a brief period in the quiet room.

Tyson Strachan's open-ice hit on Jason Chimera will likely be reviewed by the NHL and Brendan Shanahan.

Midway through the second period, Strachan leveled him with a high hit that he received a five-minute penalty and game misconduct on. Strachan didn't comment after the game. "I’ll have to take a good look at it," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "It’s a moot point whatever the coach says because that’s going to be handled on a different level. I have a strong amount of respect when the league makes those decisions. We’ll see how it plays out."

Tyson Strachan benefited from the trade of Keaton Ellerby.

Strachan has never managed to consistently maintain a top-six spot with an NHL team, but he has a chance to do so in Florida now that Ellerby's gone. The big test will be to see how he does once Ed Jovanovski returns from a knee injury.

The Panthers have approximately three roster spots up for grabs next season and defenseman Tyson Strachan is expected to claim one of them.

He did a good job filling in when the Panthers lost Jason Garrison to injury last season and looks poised to be a staple on the Cats' blueline. That said, he does not have significant offensive upside nor does he contribute much in the penalty minute category. As a result, Strachan can be ignored during most drafts.

Tyson Strachan is expected to make his playoffs debut in Game 5 on Saturday.

Strachan will fill in for the injured Jason Garrison (lower body). Strachan had a goal and three points in 15 games with the Panthers this season.

The Florida Panthers have recalled D Tyson Strachan from San Antonio of the AHL.

Strachan has done a fine job of filling in while the Panthers cope with injuries to several key blueliners. His efforts recently earned him a one-way contract for the 2012-13 campaign. That being said, we wouldn't count on him having any fantasy value in standard leagues next season.

Tyson Strachan has been sent down to the AHL San Antonio Rampage.

Ed Jovanovski (hand) returned on Thursday and Jason Garrison (ankle) is probable for Saturday's contest, so this move isn't surprising. Strachan has three points and a plus-two rating in 12 games with the Panthers this season.

The Florida Panthers and Tyson Strachan have agreed to terms on a one-year extension worth $600,000.

The deal was also his first one-way contract. "Just knowing they're thinking about me for their future plans is an exciting thing for me," said the 27-year-old defenseman. "I love where the team's at and where it's going right now. I'm just excited. That's the only word that can describe this." He has appeared in 75 NHL games in his career and has skated in eight of them with the Panthers this campaign.
