Aug 1 - 6:03 PM

Defenseman Justin Falk has not received a qualifying off and looks to be headed towards unrestricted free agency on Tuesday.

Falk was an extra defenseman for most of the 2013-14 season as he played in only 21 games for the Blueshirts, picking up two assists. He will likely be battling for the seventh defenseman's job wherever he signs in the NHL.
Jun 29 - 9:11 AM

The Rangers aren’t expected to extend a qualifying offer to defenseman Justin Falk, according to the New York Post's Larry Brooks.

Falk played 21 games, recording two assists, a minus-five rating and 20 penalty minutes. The Rangers would need to offer him $1.025 million. They will likely look elsewhere for a seventh/eighth blueliner.
Jun 21 - 7:43 PM

Justin Falk played for the first time since December 29 on Saturday.

That's an awfully long time to be a healthy scratch and Falk did not help his cause when he refused to go to the minors after the Olympic break to get in a conditioning stint. He is unlikely to play in the playoffs unless the Rangers run into the injury bug on the blueline.

Mar 29 - 9:57 AM

Defenseman Justin Falk, who has not gotten into the Rangers' lineup since Dec. 29 because coach Alain Vigneault has made him a healthy scratch, rejected a chance to play a few games in the AHL to log some minutes.

Vigneault said Falk declined the offer given that he believes he’s ready to contribute at the NHL level and his wife – who lives with him in Manhattan – is expecting a baby. "When we got back from the break, I sat down with Falker and offered him the possibility to go to Hartford and play a few games since our schedule permitted it – and that’s always player’s option," Vigneault said. "He felt in his situation, and I respect that, he felt he was getting everything he needed here if we needed him to play. You’ve got to respect that. He thinks that – obviously at some point we’re gonna need him – that he’ll be good to go. He’s our seventh defenseman. . .For the number of games he’s played this year, his attitude and his work ethic has been outstanding. He’s never said a word. He’s just done what the coaches have wanted him to. So if a player tells me he’s fine that way, I’ve got no issues with it." Falk will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Mar 1 - 10:20 AM
