Matt Beleskey has been placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins.
Beleskey has frequently been a healthy scratch this season, so the news isn't terribly surprising. Even still, it does highlight how bad his five-year, $18 million contract has been. That deal doesn't expire until 2019-20, so unless the Bruins are able to unload him, he might be bought out this summer. Dec 14 - 12:05 PM

Beleskey was injured on Monday, but fortunately it wasn't serious. "I definitely did not want a broken foot to start the year, so I’m glad that I was fine," said Beleskey. "I took a puck in the face during warm-ups and the shot to the foot in the third, so that’s quite a good start to the year. But hopefully, I’ve got those out of the way now." He had three goals and eight points in 49 games last season.

Matt Belsekey, who injured his foot in Monday's pre-season opener against Montreal, returned to practice Friday.

The Bruins expect Belesky to suit up in one of the team's next two games. If youngsters Anders Bjoork and Jake DeBrusk hold down the two top-line jobs they are competing for, Belesky is looking at a third or fourth-line role. That will make him relatively meaningless from a fanatasy perspective to start the season.

The Bruins announced that Beleskey is day-to-day as a result. Given that there's still a fair amount of time before the start of the regular season, this news isn't particularly concerning.
