Jamie McBain will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Sabres chose not to give him and goalie Connor Knappa qualifying offers, so they can test the market on Tuesday. McBain appeared in 69 games with Buffalo during the 2013-14 season and he collected 17 points.
Jun 30 - 3:23 PM

Jamie McBain scored but the New York Islanders beat his Buffalo Sabres 4-3 (SO) on Sunday.

McBain finishes with six goals and 17 points in 2013-14. He's still hoping to regain his form from Carolina when he generated 30 points in 2010-11 and 27 in 2011-12.
Apr 13 - 9:02 PM

Jamie McBain buried his fifth goal of the season in Buffalo's 3-2 loss to the Red Wings on Friday night.

McBain snapped a six game pointless drought to score his 16th point in 64 games this season. McBain is a career-low -14 this season on a weak Sabres team.
Apr 4 - 11:26 PM

Jamie McBain scored his fourth goal of the season in Sunday's loss to Vancouver.

He was credited with his first marker since Jan. 9 after his centering pass hit Kevin Bieksa and entered the net. McBain has 15 points on the year and two in his past two games.
Mar 24 - 9:52 AM

Jamie McBain was a healthy scratch Tuesday.

He didn't play well in Monday's loss at Pittsburgh. "I just want to see better," interim coach Ted Nolan said. "As with every player on this team you've got to be better. There are a couple others in the same boat but the bottom line is we have to be better. No other way to put it. Especially with the team we have. We can't afford one or two bad blunders and turnovers and not concentrating." McBain has 10 points and a minus-5 rating in 39 outings with Buffalo this campaign.
Jan 29 - 8:20 AM

Jamie McBain scored the only Buffalo goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers Thursday night.

McBain's goal was his third of the season and with only nine points he's not worthy of a roster spot in any league. Matt D'Agostini and Steve Ott picked up helpers on the tally.
Jan 9 - 10:05 PM

Jamie McBain has been logging big minutes for the Sabres of late and he's been seeing sizable chunks of playing time on the power play.

In Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to Calgary, he played 24:03 which included a team-leading 6:17 of power-play time. "I feel good, very confident in my game and very confident now in the fact the coaches are giving me an opportunity to play those bigger minutes," McBain said. He earned an assist on the man advantage in last Thursday's 2-1 loss to Ottawa. McBain has six points and 31 shots in 21 games this campaign.

Jamie McBain scored a goal in Buffalo's 4-2 loss on Saturday.

McBain has two goals and five points in 14 games this season. He's been getting a good amount of playing time with the man advantage, but Buffalo ranks 22nd in that regard with a 15.4% success rate. The Sabres have heated up in that regard lately and if that trend continues, it might help McBain's fantasy value.

Jamie McBain notched a goal and a helper Tuesday night.

Both of his points came on Buffalo power plays in a 3-2 overtime loss against Tampa Bay. "He just shoots it and it goes in," said coach Ron Rolston. "Running it at the top he's got a lot of poise just holding on to it making plays that need to be made. His shooting too, he's got the poise to hold it and find the hole to put it through." He should continue to get plenty of minutes with the man advantage, which could make him an attractive pickup for fantasy owners.

Jamie McBain will make his Buffalo debut Saturday.

He was a healthy scratch for the Sabres' first two games of the 2013-14 campaign. He will be paired with Tyler Myers and could see time on the team's second power-play unit.

Jamie McBain looks like he'll start the regular season as a healthy scratch.

He practiced as Buffalo's extra defenseman on Monday. He's looking forward to getting a fresh start this season after being traded from Carolina. "A lot of times it takes that change of scenery in order to find yourself again and find your game again," McBain said. "You get to prove yourself all over again, and that's a good thing. Coming in with a fresh start has been a lot of fun." McBain is confident that his struggles last year were just a blip on the radar and he's eager to get back on track with the Sabres when he gets his opportunity.

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford believes Jamie McBain will be better prepared to play in Buffalo next season.

"I think Jamie will turn his game around next year," Rutherford said. "Unfortunately, he didn't come to camp last year ready to play. He wasn't in good shape, and because of that he didn't have a good year. He got himself into the coach's doghouse, and I really didn't see that he was going to get himself out of it. I wish him well and he's a good guy, but I do feel we've got a more reliable top-four defenseman with the deal we just made." The Hurricanes acquired Andrej Sekera from the Sabres in exchange for McBain and a second-round pick.

The Buffalo Sabres received Jamie McBain and the Carolina Hurricanes' second-round pick for Andrej Sekera.

McBain is a little bit younger (25 vs. 27) and probably has a better offensive upside with recent 27 and 32-point seasons. He also has a slight size advantage. Still, McBain's eight-point season in 2013 might be a cause for concern.

Jamie McBain will continue playing hockey this spring at the world championship with Team USA.

He will skate with Carolina teammate Justin Faulk on the blueline of the United States next month.
