Gaunce has completed a two-way contract that came with a $650,000 cap hit at the NHL level. His best case scenario would probably be to get a one-way contract at roughly the league minimum this summer.

Gaunce had 22 points and 84 penalty minutes in 61 AHL contests last season. He also had a goal and 16 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche. We wouldn't be surprised if he gets at least one stint in the NHL over the course of the 2011-12 season.

Cameron Gaunce suffered a hand injury in the second period on Thursday and did not return.

Just an FYI as the young defenseman has little fantasy value at this time, although the 21-year-old blueliner does have some offensive talent. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Cameron Gaunce scored his first NHL goal on Wednesday.

Gaunce was no sure thing to play on Wednesday as he hurt his foot on Monday blocking a shot. There was a fear that he had broken his foot but he skated on Tuesday and played against the Penguins on Wednesday. The 20-year-old defenseman has some offensive talent but it is too early to think of grabbing him in any fantasy pool.

Cameron Gaunce (foot) skated on Tuesday.

This is great news, especially seeing as there was a concern that he may have broken his foot when he blocked a shot during Monday's game. He has no points in two games with the Avalanche this season.

Cameron Gaunce was called up from the minors on Saturday February 12.

The 20-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut on Saturday and was held off the scoresheet in 11:11 minutes of action. He has no fantasy value and will likely return to the minors when the Avs get healthy on the blueline as Adam Foote, Kyle Cumiskey and Jonas Holos are currently out of action.

The Colorado Avalanche have signed Cameron Gaunce and Trevor Cann to entry level contracts.

Gaunce was the Avs first selection (50th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft. The defenseman had a very good offensive season in the OHL with 17 goals and 64 points with the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors this past season. "Cameron is a complete player," the Avs VP of hockey operations Craig Billington said. "He's a bit of a throwback, a very assertive defenseman." He will require a least a season in the minors but he could eventually quarterback the Colorado power play.
