Cameron Gaunce will test the free-agent market on July 1st.

"He’s a Group 6 free agent. When you’re a kid and this is your first chance to be free, you want to see what is out there," Stars GM Jim Nill said. "His goal is to make the NHL and he looks at our depth chart and he sees that we have 11 or 12 defensemen that have a chance to play in the NHL. He’s going to look around. We’d like to have him back, but for him it’s a chance to see if there is opportunity somewhere else." Gaunce didn't play in the NHL in 2014-15, but he did play nine games with the Stars during the previous season.

He was recalled for Saturday night's game against Dallas as insurance but did not dress. Not much from a fantasy perspective here.

The Stars have recalled defenseman Cameron Gaunce from Texas of the AHL.

Gaunce isn't much of a scorer but he could be a penalty minute-per game guy when he gets a chance to play. He was likely recalled because one of the Dallas blueliners is injured. As soon as we know more we will let you know.

The Dallas Stars placed Cameron Gaunce on waivers.

Gaunce is a former second round pick of the Stars. The 24-year-old played nine games with Dallas last season and didn't register any points. If he clears waivers, he will join Dallas' farm team in Texas.

Cameron Gaunce has an arbitration hearing set for July 25.

Gaunce has completed a two-way contract that came with a $650,000 cap hit at the NHL level. His best case scenario would probably be to get a one-way contract at roughly the league minimum this summer.

Gaunce had 22 points and 84 penalty minutes in 61 AHL contests last season. He also had a goal and 16 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche. We wouldn't be surprised if he gets at least one stint in the NHL over the course of the 2011-12 season.

Cameron Gaunce suffered a hand injury in the second period on Thursday and did not return.

Just an FYI as the young defenseman has little fantasy value at this time, although the 21-year-old blueliner does have some offensive talent. Consider him day-to-day for now.
