Alexander Salak has been released by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Salak competed for the backup gig in Chicago last season, but ultimately lost it to Ray Emery. He might find a team that's willing to let him compete for a spot in training camp, but we wouldn't be surprised if he ends up signing with a European club.

The Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly placed Alexander Salak on waivers.

Salak will make $600,000 next season even if he plays in the minors. He was originally projected to be Corey Crawford's backup in 2011-12, but he lost that job to Ray Emery.

The Chicago Blackhawks have returned goaltender Alexander Salak to the minors.

Salak was recalled due to the injury to Corey Crawford but Crawford was well enough to back up Ray Emery on Thursday, so Salak was returned to Rockford of the AHL. Salak will continue to play for Rockford and only get a call up if there is an injury or illness this season.

Alexander Salak has been recalled by Chicago.

The Blackhawks have a pair of banged up goalies in Corey Crawford and Ray Emery right now. Crawford has been resting a lower-body injury, while Emery missed Wednesday's practice with the flu. Salak may not dress on Thursday against Winnipeg, but we'll keep you posted on the situation.

He is already working with team trainers at the United Center in preparation for his battle with Ray Emery, who will attend camp on a tryout basis, to play behind Corey Crawford this season. The Chicago Blackhawks have confirmed that Alexander Salak has signed a two-year contract.

Salak's new contract is believed to be one-way, which means that Chicago wouldn't save any money by sending him to the AHL. With that in mind, he will almost certainly start the season as Chicago's number two goaltender. He had a 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 32 Swedish Elite League games.

Alexander Salak has reportedly inked a two-year, one-way deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The fact that it's one-way means that Salak is the heavy favorite to serve as Corey Crawford's understudy in 2011-12. Salak had a very impressive 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 32 Swedish Elite League games. Salak will reportedly get paid $600,000 per season.

The Chicago Blackhawks are expecting to have goaltender Alexander Salak at their training camp in September.

Salak was acquired in the Michael Frolik trade from Florida on Feb. 9 in a move that sent Jack Skille, Hugh Jessiman and David Pacan to the Panthers. Salak played for Farjestads BK of the Swedish Elite League this past season after a year with the Rochester Americans where he also managed to get into two games with the Panthers. He had seven shutouts with a 1.97 GAA and a .926 save percentage in 32 games last season so his credentials are very good. Look for him to back up Corey Crawford in 2011-12.
