The 23 goals scored by Oliver Ekman-Larsson tied a franchise record for most goals in a season by a defenseman.
Phil Housley turned the trick twice in the early 90's when the franchise was in Winnipeg. OEL led the team in points with 43 and will look to get an infusion of scoring help next season when Max Domi, Anthony Duclair and hopefully either Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel are with the club. Oliver Ekman-Larsson remains optimistic about the Arizona Coyotes despite their disastrous season.

With a 5-0 loss to Vancouver on Thursday, the Coyotes are now 24-49-8 this season. "I don't think we're that bad," Ekman-Larsson said. "We just have to work on some things, and I'm already excited for next season." Arizona really has been awful this season, but there are at least some reasons for Ekman-Larsson to be excited. Arizona has some really good prospects on the way as well as some talented youngsters already with the team, including Ekman-Larsson. Combine that with whoever they draft in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft - they still have a chance of finishing 30th overall - and it's not hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson tied a franchise record with his 23rd goal of the season.

OEL tied the mark for defensemen set by Phil Housley when the franchise was still in Winnipeg. "I've been saying for a while and everyone has that he's a special player, and I really don't think there's too many people in the league I'd trade him for," captain Shane Doan said. "He's our best offensive player. He's our best defensive player. He's special, and it's disappointing he doesn't get the talk nationally that he deserves. What he's doing this year, obviously, it speaks for itself." Doan is right as Ekman-Larsson is one of the top blueliners in the NHL.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored twice, once on a remarkable double-tap in mid-air, in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Colorado.

You need to go find a highlight of Ekman-Larsson's second goal. Simply put, he batted the puck twice out of the air, putting it in the second time as he glided away from the play. He also led all skaters with nine shots, and added three hits, and a block over 25:50 of ice time. With the goals Ekman-Larsson still only ranks 25th among defensemen with 35 points, but he leads all blue liners with 19 goals.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson was a minus-two on Friday.

The blueliner is now back to a minus-15 rating. He leads all defensemen in goals with 16 and while his 12 assists are not a lot, he is a nice fantasy asset. Look for much more next season, including a boost in the plus/minus.
