Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Coyotes in their 3-2 victory against the Kings on Saturday night.

He scored on the power play, with 14 seconds left in overtime. Ekman-Larsson was all over the place, finishing with a game-high eight shots on goal, too. The 23-year-old is among the most gifted young blueliners in the game, and it shouldn’t be surprising to see him take another step next year, possibly winning the Norris Trophy. Antoine Vermette had a goal and an assist, while Mikkel Boedker got the other goal. Keith Yandle recorded three helpers.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson could be a stud and a Norris Trophy candidate this season.

We have been on the Ekman-Larsson bandwagon since he was 20, in the 2011-12 season, when he picked up 13 goals and 31 points, but it was obvious even then how talented he was as he controlled the game, slowing it down to his speed and seemingly always having the puck. That is not something most 20-year-old defensemen can do in the NHL, as a matter of fact only the great ones can, so Ekman-Larsson is now looking for a breakout season that every fan will sit up and take notice. He had 15 goals and 44 points as a 22-year-old last season and he could hit 20 goals and 60 points this year if all goes well. Take him if you can.
Oct 5 - 6:41 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is expected to take a big step in his development in 2014, chewing up bigger minutes will be part of that.

OEL skated 25:50 with 3:53 on the powerplay and 2:33 on the kill. That's a lot of heavy hockey, even during preseason. Surprisingly, he also had three hits and just two shots in Friday night's 3-1 loss to the Sharks.
Oct 4 - 1:26 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson had two assists in Arizona's 4-2 victory over Vancouver on Monday.

Ekman-Larsson set career-highs last season with 15 goals and 44 points. We're looking for the 23-year-old defenseman to be just as productive in 2014-15.
Sep 30 - 7:21 AM

The Arizona Coyotes are experimenting with moving defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson to the right side from his natural left side.

The reason for the move is to team up Ekman-Larsson with Keith Yandle and have the Coyotes top two defenseman on the ice for 25-plus minutes a game. It will also help as both man the point on the first power play helping coach Dave Tippett avoid mixing and matching after a power play. Look for Ekman-Larsson to improve on his 15 goal, 44 point season from a year ago and approach the 50 point mark in 2014-15.

Ekman-Larsson is enjoying quite the campaign, with 14 goals and 29 assists for 43 points in 76 games in total. His 22 points with the man advantage make him a dangerous player in these situations. Kyle Chipchura also found the back of the net for Phoenix in the defeat.
Apr 5 - 1:16 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson registered his 13th goal of the season Monday, but the Coyotes dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Rangers.

His 13th tally ties his career-high, set in the 2011-12 season, and gets him to the 40-point mark for the first time as an NHLer. Jeff Halpern and Kyle Chipchura also scored for the Desert Dogs in the defeat.

Feb 28 - 10:57 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson was benched for the entirety of Sweden's 2-1 semifinal win over Finland on Friday.

It's really hard to fathom why Swedish coach Per Marts has such a distaste for the young, talented defenseman. Marts also left Ekman-Larsson off of his 2009 World Juniors team. Ekman-Larsson is Phoenix's go-to blueliner, averaging 25:41 of ice time per game with 29 points in 56 games. But in the Olympics, he's averaged just over 10 minutes per game in the Olympics. Niklas Hjalmarsson, Johnny Oduya, Niklas Kronwall, Erik Karlsson and even Jonathan Ericsson are above Ekman-Larsson in the depth chart, though the 22 year-old has managed to tally three points in his limited ice time in Sochi.
Feb 21 - 7:44 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is adding a new element to his game: chippiness.

The ultra-talented defenseman is only 22 and has multiple Norris Trophies in his future if he is not hurt by an Eastern bias. He played amazingly well against the Penguins on Saturday, shutting down Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Opponents have tried to be more aggressive with Ekman-Larsson but he is not backing down. "I think maybe they're frustrated by him because he's so good," coach Dave Tippett said. "And it's not just with the puck. He defends very well. When you're a guy trying to have success against a guy and it's not happening, it's a little frustrating." OEL has eight goals and 29 points this season and is averaging 25:36 minutes of ice time per game.

Antoine Vermette also scored for the Coyotes and he now has seven goals in his past seven games and four in the past two.
