Oliver Ekman-Larsson (personal) has been granted a leave of absence from the team.
He will travel back to Sweden to be with his family as they mourn the loss of his mother, who passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. Ekman-Larsson will miss the rest of the season. "This has been a very difficult year for me personally," said Ekman-Larsson. "I'd like to thank the Coyotes organization and all of my teammates for their incredible support all season long. I'm sorry that I'll miss our last three games but family comes first." Our thoughts and condolences go out to Oliver and his family for their loss. Apr 3 - 1:09 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson's two assists lifted the Coyotes to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night.

Arizona was out of the playoff race long ago, but Ekman-Larsson helped put the dagger in the Kings' post-season aspirations. The 25-year-old has 12 goals and 39 points in 79 games.
Apr 3 - 2:10 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson picked up a goal and an assist in a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

Ekman-Larsson beat Vasilevskiy with a point shot that confused the referees because the goal light never went off. He is now up to 37 points in 73 games this season, his lowest points-per-game total since the 2012-13 lockout shortened season. His minus-24 rating is really hurting fantasy owners this season, as it is 23 points lower than last year. We still recommend starting him in your lineup as he is the Coyotes' best threat on the power play.
Mar 21 - 10:22 PM

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson recorded the only goal for the hapless Arizona Coyotes during a 3-1 loss to the Predators in Nashville Monday night.

It was the 11th goal of the season for Ekman-Larsson. The loss mathematically eliminated the Coyotes from playoff contention.
Mar 20 - 11:37 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson played with a broken thumb suffered on November 29.

It was reported at that time that Ekman-Larsson suffered a bruise and it was an upper body injury but he played every game. No wonder the Arizona defenseman stopped scoring. "It’s how you really handle it," OEL said. "If you say to yourself, ‘I’m going to keep playing like this,’ then you will. If you tell yourself, ‘You’re going to get better,’ you will get better. I feel like I’m going to get better, and I know it and I’m going to work hard to get better. That’s the player and person I am." While many poolies will look at the stats and downgrade him next season, at least you know the real reason his season was off. Ekman-Larsson has 10 goals and 34 points with a minus-25 rating.
Mar 12 - 7:16 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson's point streak is now at five games.

Ekman-Larsson collected an assist in a 5-3 win over Los Angeles Thursday night. He has 10 goals and 33 points in 56 contests in 2016-17.
Feb 17 - 4:16 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is riding a four-game point streak.

Ekman-Larsson picked up an assist in a 5-2 loss to Edmonton on Tuesday. That gives him 10 goals and 32 points in 55 games this season.
Feb 15 - 4:36 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has four assists in his last three games.

That brings Ekman-Larsson up to 10 goals and 31 points in 54 contests in 2016-17. He might not match his 2015-16 total of 55 points, but this will almost certainly be his fourth consecutive season of at least 40 points.
Feb 14 - 5:06 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson found the back of the net in a 4-3 loss to Chicago last night.

With that Ekman-Larsson has reached the 10-goal milestone for the fourth straight season. He has a 10.2 shooting percentage this season, which is higher than he's maintained for any season so far, but he's averaging just 1.96 shots per game, compared to 3.04 shots in 2015-16.
Feb 3 - 8:12 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is sitting at a career-worst minus-19 rating.

Ekman-Larsson has also been a tad cold offensively lately with a goal and an assist in his last six games. Coyotes coach Dave Tippett feels Ekman-Larsson is stabilizing, but he did admit that there have been issues this season. "Well, he’s been up and down this year. You guys have talked about it for a while now," Tippett said. "That’s the reality of it. He’s been up and down a little bit. I look at it this way – could he play better? Sure, he could play better. He knows he can play better. But on the other side, when you look at the hard minutes he takes ... there’s room for improvement, but it’s not out of a lack of trying."
Jan 25 - 4:34 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

The goal was the positive aspect of his net, but unfortunately for fantasy owners, he also finished with a minus-5 rating (you read that correctly). Ekman-Larsson's power play goal gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead at the time, but the Jets answered with five straight goals in the second and third period. The 25-year-old now has nine goals, 15 assists and a minus-19 rating in 44 games.
Jan 18 - 10:31 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson picked up three assists in a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

Ekman-Larsson picked up two of his assists two goals scored by Brendan Perlini and then another on Peter Holland's first goal as a Coyote. Ekman-Larsson is now on pace for 46 points in 82 games this season, which would put him slightly above his career pace but below his career high of 0.73 points-per-game set last season. He's probably one of the more underrated NHL defensemen and a very valuable fantasy player considering how much of a threat he is to score on the power play.
Jan 14 - 12:33 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a goal on the power-play in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Ekman-Larsson's goal came from a mad scramble in front of Gibson which resulted from a shot by Anthony Duclair. It's Ekman-Larsson's 8th goal of the year, and 5th power-play marker. His 0.51 points-per-game this season fall perfectly in line with his career average of 0.50 points-per-game, proving that his 55 point-season last year was more of an outlier. Regardless, he is still one of the most underrated defensemen in the NHL and a great fantasy contributor due to the number of goals and power-play goals he scores.
Jan 7 - 1:44 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored one goal and had an assist in the 3-2 loss of the Arizona Coyotes to the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night.

Ekman-Larsson earned his 10th assist of the season on Martin Hanzal’s second period goal and found the back of the net on his own with five seconds remaining in regulation to pull the Coyotes to within one. In the closing minutes of play, he also instigated a fight at the other end of the ice behind an empty net in a bid to pump some adrenalin into the team. This snapped a two-game streak in which he failed to score a point.
Thu, Dec 22, 2016 12:31:00 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a goal in Arizona's 3-2 shootout win over Toronto.

Ekman-Larsson has six goals and 15 points in 30 games this season. If he reaches the 40-point mark in 2016-17 then he'll be doing so far the fourth consecutive campaign.
