Coyotes general manager Don Maloney is close to finishing a new contract extension, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette.
Maloney's current deal expires this offseason but he and the NHL, which owns the team, are nearly done with a new one. Maloney has been the Coyotes' general manager since 2007, helping guide the team to three playoff berths in the last four years without an owner. McLellan says there's no word on when exactly the two sides want to get this done by. Coach Dave Tippett also has a contract that expires this summer. May 23 - 8:41 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson played through a foot injury the final month of the season.

Ekman-Larsson didn't miss a game despite the injury, but he won't be playing for Sweden in the upcoming world championships. It was another strong season for Ekman-Larsson, who registered three goals and 24 points to go along with a plus-5 rating and 26 penalty minutes. He should be pretty high on the list of fantasy defensemen entering next season.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson suffered an undisclosed injury Saturday but is expected to be in the Coyotes lineup Monday.

Ekman-Larsson only played a few shifts in the third period and did not see the ice in the overtime as the Coyotes won in a shootout. "He got nicked up a little bit late in the game, and he didn't play the last part of the third period," coach Dave Tippett said. "But it looks like he'll be fine."

Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s two assists helped the Coyotes beat Colorado 4-0 Saturday night.

With a big new contract and impressive progress made in his third NHL season, the 21-year old Swede is a legitimate fantasy force with 21 points so far in 2013. Don’t forget that although Ekman-Larsson can produce points, hits and log a lot of minutes, he needs to improve on his consistency as has yet to establish himself in the same top tier as defensemen such as his teammate Keith Yandle.

A stomach virus has hit a large number of the Phoenix Coyotes, including star defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

The Coyotes held an optional practice Friday, and most stayed off the ice. About six or seven players didn’t even report to the rink, remaining at home to recuperate from the virus that’s also infected Keith Yandle and Ekman-Larsson. Winger Lauri Korpikoski has improved from an upper-body injury, but he’s one of the players dealing with the flu.
Apr 6 - 12:29 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson recorded a game-high six shots on goal Saturday night as the Coyotes were edged by the Blue Jackets in the shootout 1-0.

Ekman-Larsson also had two penalty minutes, while logging a team-high 26:10 of ice time. There's very rarely a night when this young stud doesn't make his presence felt. Paul Bissonnette also had a fighting major in the loss.

The Coyotes signed Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a six-year extension.

TSN's Darren Dreger reports the deal has an average annual value of $5.5 million per year. That's certainly a hefty chunk of change, but the 21-year-old has already established himself as one of the better all-around defensemen in the league. Ekman-Larsson has 17 points in 27 games this year, to go with a plus-eight rating. He was set to be a restricted free agent this offseason and was coming off an entry-level deal that carried a $1.75 million cap hit. "Oliver is an exceptional young player who will continue to improve as he matures," general manager Don Maloney said. "He is an important part of our future and we are pleased to have agreed on a long term contract."

Oliver Ekman-Larsson's camp and the Phoenix Coyotes have had some preliminary talks regarding a contract extension.

Ekman-Larsson is set to become a restricted free agent this summer. His entry-level contract comes with a $1.75 million cap hit and that should increase given his performance thus far. He broke out with 32 points last season and has 17 points in 26 contests in 2013. "We’ll pay on performance. We have no problem," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said. "But we won’t pay on potential. In Oliver’s case, he’s having a terrific season. He’s somebody we expect to sign at some point and hopefully for a long time."

Ekman-Larsson now has 13 points in 20 games in 2013. He hasn't slowed down after his breakout 32-point campaign last season and should continue to rank among the leaders in points among defensemen.
Mar 1 - 11:00 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson's three-point output sets a new career high for the budding offensive defenseman.

That production helped the Phoenix Coyotes earn a 5-1 win against the over-matched Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night. "OEL" had a goal and two assists. If you're fortunate enough to be a league where he's inexplicably available, run - don't walk - to the waiver wire and pick him up.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is feeling better after being hit in the foot by the puck during an AHL game.

Ekman-Larsson missed some playing time in the minors as a result, but he should be fine for the start of the Phoenix Coyotes' training camp. Ekman-Larsson had seven goals and 21 points in 20 AHL games and he's a good candidate to get off to a hot start in the shortened season.
Jan 9 - 11:28 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is en route from the American Hockey League to Phoenix to have an injury checked out by team doctors, Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said.

Ekman-Larsson took a puck off the foot and had been out for the past few games. The bone bruise isn’t pegged to be too serious. "He probably could be playing, but we said, ‘At this stage, let’s get him back,’" Maloney said. "Let’s get our own people look at him and make sure he’s 100 percent, and why risk it?"
