Nazem Kadri is blossoming into a top notch shutdown center before our eyes.

He kept Sidney off the score sheet at even strength Saturday night and has been absolutely dominant in controlling Connor McDavid in two contests against the Oilers this season. You can't get three harder assignments than that and Kadri has been brilliant in all three instances. Kadri also has some scoring ability and amasses a healthy amount of penalty minutes. He is a very valuable "real" hockey player and a pretty valuable fantasy one too.

Nazem Kadri will have the difficult assignment of following Sidney Crosby around the ice on Saturday.

Kadri has developed into Toronto's primary shutdown center and he's looked good doing at times. He was able to keep Connor McDavid off the score sheet earlier this year, but he knows tonight's matchup will also be a stiff test. "Covering Sid, he’s tenacious, persistent, good down low, especially on his edges," Kadri said. "He can shake you off well, so you kind of have to jockey him a little bit and give him the respect he deserves. He’s a great player, you have to be hard on him and I plan to do so (Saturday)."

Nazem Kadri didn't practice Tuesday because he was feeling under the weather.

The Leafs host Minnesota on Wednesday, so he could play if this is just a 24 hour illness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Nazem Kadri isn't worried about the hostile environment that awaits him in Saturday's game against Vancouver.

"There is definitely going to be some hostility, but we definitely play better under that kind of pressure," Kadri said. "Especially myself. I don't mind it at all. You have to be hard on good players." The Leafs center incited plenty of shenanigans on Nov. 5 when Toronto last played the Canucks following his blindside hit on Daniel Sedin. Kadri does step over the line at times, but he has enjoyed a strong start to the year with 10 goals and 17 points in 23 games. He also has 53 penalty minutes.

It does not appear that Nazem Kadri will face any league discipline for his hit on Daniel Sedin Saturday night.

Kadri clocked Sedin just as he had released on Vancouver's third goal. To some, it looked to be a cheap hit as Sedin was vulnerable and Kadri came barreling in at top speed. But the NHL seems to think that the hit didn't cross the line. Kadri has been a hot player as of late so it is a good thing for those who own him that he will be available for next week's games.
