Toronto coach Mike Babcock believes that Nazem Kadri has been the best Maple Leaf player so far this season.
That's high praise indeed. Kadri is second in the NHL in shots on goal with 70, behind only Alexander Ovechkin. The 25-year-old Leaf forward has also taken 22 shots on goal in his last four games. That said, the results haven't been there. Kadri has scored only one goal and registered six points in 16 games thus far. At least his coach appreciates his play. If Kadri continues to pepper the opposition goal with shots, logic dictates the results will come. Nov 14 - 11:30 AM

Nazem Kadri has been getting plenty of chances but he just can't seem to score.

In fact, Kadri has taken a very impressive 48 shots in 13 games this season but has scored only one goal. That's not a very good shooting percentage. Odds are in Kadri's favor that those numbers will turn around if he continues to direct pucks at the net. Stay patient Kadri owners.

Oct 26 - 11:50 PM

Nazem Kadri seems to making some progress in his quest to fulfill his NHL potential.

Although he has only registered two points in four games and is a minus three, Kadri is amongst the NHL leaders in shots on goal and he is taking Mike Babcock's teachings to heart about driving to the opponent's net. Kadri has 21 shots in four games, behind only Patrick Kane and tied with Max Pacioretty. Keep an eye on Kadri. Slow but steady improvement in his game seems to be taking place.

Nazem Kadri had three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Mike Babock's return to Detroit didn't go as planned. After two games, the Leafs have scored just one goal. Nazem Kadri earned an assist and won seven of 13 faceoffs in Toronto's 3-1 loss to Montreal in Wednesday night's home opener.

He picked up an assist when his shot went off James van Riemsdyk for a power-play goal in the second period. Coach Mike Babcock wants to see improvement from Kadri defensively though, so that he has more opportunities on offense. The Leafs' new No. 1 center finished Wednesday's game with a minus-2 rating, but he also led the team with five shots on goal.
Oct 8 - 8:49 AM

Nazem Kadri scored a goal and an assist in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Kadri picked up an assist on Stuart Percy's first period goal and he added one of his own early in the third period. The 24-year-old posted a disappointing 39 points in 73 games in 2014-15, but the Leafs will need more from him now that Phil Kessel has been sent to Pittsburgh. This is a critical year for Kadri, as he was only signed to a one-year extension during the off-season. A big year could land him a huge contract to stay with the Leafs, but another disappointing season will probably have him looking for a new team at the end of the year.
Sep 25 - 10:37 PM

Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock is prepared to go through the process with Nazem Kadri.

Kadri was suspended by the Leafs six months ago for several issues, which included sleeping in and missing a team meeting. He has been criticized for how he conducts himself off the ice. "That stuff is all in the past," Babcock said. "I’ve talked to him a number of times both in person and on the phone. I think he’s had a real good summer, a journey in which he’s trying to get better and improve himself. … My expectation for him is that he’s as prepared as he’s ever been when training camp starts and he gets better each and every day, It’s not going to happen overnight. It’s going to be a process."

Nazem Kadri feels good about how this summer went for him.

"This off-season has been my best," Kadri said. "Physically, it has been easier. My body is catching up with me and it's easier to get stronger and I can work on those areas that I have to, a lot of explosive movements, agility, a lot of footwork. I'm continually working on speed and obviously strength. I think my lower body is a whole different ball game. I've become stronger and that's what you need to keep up with all the best players." Although expectations are low for the Leafs overall, Kadri is entering this season with plenty to prove. He's coming off of a rough campaign where he recorded 39 points in 73 games and received a pair of suspensions, including one by the Leafs for disciplinary reasons. He has the potential to be a great player, but he'll turn 25 on Oct. 6, so talk of his potential is going to start to die out. At some point in the not too distant future, he'll start to be assessed purely based on what he's shown rather than what he was once pr

The deal is worth $4.1 million. Kadri's numbers were down last season as he scored 18 goals and 21 assists in 73 games.
