Despite being the fifth best ranked possession team in the NHL so far this season, the Maple Leafs are sporting one of the poorer possession lines.
The trio of Nazem Kadri, Milan Michalek and Leo Komorov were terrible Saturday night against Chicago with a 20% possession rating. Compare that to the Leafs as a whole with a 54.5% possession rating and you can see how poorly the Kadri unit is doing. Mike Babcock is certainly watching these numbers and will make a change if they continue. Oct 23 - 11:27 AM

Nazem Kadri scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

Kadri's first period goal gave the Maple Leafs a 2-0 lead, while his tally in the second period extended the advantage to 4-0. That's when the Leafs fell apart, as they allowed the Jets to tie the game in the third period. Toronto eventually dropped the game in OT when rookie Patrik Laine completed his hat trick. The goals were Kadri's first two of the season.
Oct 19 - 11:29 PM

Nazem Kadri has won 69 percent of his 29 faceoffs after the first two games of the season.

He won just 49.2 percent of his draws last season, which set a new personal best for the 26-year-old center. "You're going to have off-nights, but you have to be consistent strategically," Kadri said. "I'm hoping to be one of those guys to be looked upon for an important faceoff." He appears to be making great progress in that area if his first two games are any indication.

Nazem Kadri doesn't mind that the spotlight in Toronto will be focused on the team's top prospects.

"I don't mind flying under the radar sometimes," Kadri said. "But at the same time, guys are expected to do a lot — maybe a little more this year than last year. But I think those guys know who they are and they're ready to take responsibility and take action." He wants to play a leadership role on the team this year and has worked hard during the off-season to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
Sep 6 - 4:45 PM

Nazem Kadri has agreed to a six-year contract with the Maple Leafs.

The average annual value of his new deal is $4.5 million. Kadri finished as Toronto's leading scorer in 2015-16 with 45 points in 76 games. Coach Mike Babcock displayed plenty of faith in him during the regular season, while placing him against the top lines of the opposition.
Apr 13 - 9:55 AM

Nazem Kadri has been suspended for four games for cross-checking Detroit's Luke Glendening.

That means Kadri won't be available to play for the rest of the 2015-16 season. The 25-year-old center leads Toronto in scoring with 45 points in 76 games. He will be a restricted free agent this summer.
Apr 4 - 12:01 PM

Nazem Kadri will have a hearing with NHL’s department of player safety for his cross-check on Detroit forward Luke Glendening.

The incident occurred in the middle of the second period Saturday night. Kadri and Glendening were battling. Kadri eventually took a shot from Glendening and Kadri went back at him with a high cross-check. The Maple Leafs center has 17 goals and 45 points.
Apr 3 - 6:35 PM

Nazem Kadri has received a $3,000 fine for diving/embellishment.

That brings the total amount of money he's lost to diving this season to $5,000. In order to lose that much money he had to have been cited for three separate incidents, which occurred during games on Feb. 4, March 12, and March 21.
Apr 1 - 2:45 PM

Nazem Kadri scored three goals in a 5-2 win over Florida on Tuesday.

His first two goals came on the powerplay. Babcock spoke before the contest on how he liked the look of Kadri and Bozak on the powerplay and it paid dividends tonight against Florida. Kadri now has 17 goals and 44 points in 74 games this season. PA Parenteau and Michael Grabner also scored for the Leafs.
Mar 29 - 10:18 PM

Nazem Kadri is trying to learn how to shoot more deceptively.

Kadri has just 14 goals through his 243 shots on net for a remarkably low 5.8 shooting percentage, making his the second least effective shooter among those with at least 200 pucks on net. In essence, Coach Mike Babcock is encouraging the 25-year-old to shoot more snappers, from more angles, and regardless of which foot is on the ice, or if both are planted. In Kadri's words it's, "so I don't have to really think about it much when I do it in a game." Makes sense. One imagines that when the lessons truly sink in, he'll become the scorer projected for him way back as the seventh overall pick in 2009.
Mar 27 - 9:31 PM

Mike Babcock wouldn't mind seeing referees give Nazem Kadri a call every once in a while.

Bruins forward David Krejci delivered a questionable hit on Kadri in the third period, but no penalty call was made. "About four games ago … they decided that you can’t call a penalty on Naz," Babcock said. "I’m not blaming anybody for anything … the memo must be out they are not allowed to call a penalty on him. It’s got to be overwith now. Let’s get on with it. When there is a penalty, call a penalty."

It was Kadri who netted the overtime winner too for his 14th goal of the season. He went pointless in his previous six games, but the 25-year-old made up for it in a big way on Thursday night. He now has 41 points in 71 games this season.

William Nylander sent the game into overtime at 18:47 of the third period, when the Leafs had a power play and had pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.
