Nazem Kadri and the Maple Leafs have reportedly started talks on a contract.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the range of the money has been discussed, but not the term. There also hasn't been an offer made yet. Kadri can become a restricted free agent at the end of the year, but the Leafs don't appear to be in a rush to get something done right now. Kadri has 13 goals, including two in his past two matches, and 27 points in 46 games. Jan 22 - 11:57 AM

Nazem Kadri will center Richard Panik and James van Riemsdyk on their second line Friday night against Columbus.

"I think he [Kadri] can find you anywhere," Panik said. "I've got to be prepared for the pass from anywhere. I'm going to try to shoot the puck and try to make some scoring chances for him." JVR and Kadri rank second and fourth respectively in team scoring, while Panik has seven goals himself since being picked up from Tampa. Could be interesting.

Although they have played together for only one game, the line of Nzaem Kadri, James vanRiemsdyk and Mike Santorelli has certainly impressed Toronto coach Randy Carlyle.

The unit was extremely effective in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Dallas. :It seems that there is some form of cohesiveness with Kadri and JVR," Carlyle. "Maybe the glue is Santorelli. We've moved him all over the place this year and every line that he has been on has been able to be accountable." The Leafs' top unit of Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak will hopefully be able to follow the Kadri line's success. If for some reason Santorelli is still available in your fantasy league, we would pick him up as a reserve forward.

After receiving a lot of criticism at the start of the season, Kadri has produced more offense recently. The 24-year-old has nine points in his last eight games (three goals, six assists). Kadri is one of those players that run hot and cold throughout an 82-game season.

The Leafs' line of Nazem Kadri, Mike Santorelli and Daniel Winnik did a good job of shutting down the Sedin twins on Saturday.

Coach Randy Carlyle removed Joffrey Lupul from that line and replaced him with Winnik. "I thought Naz was on top of the Sedins," said head coach Randy Carlyle. "He didn’t play high-risk, high reward. (The whole line) played well through the neutral zone."
