Dmitry Kulikov is nearing a return to practice.

The Sabres' defenseman, who has been out of action since November 9th with a back injury, has skated the last few days with some contact and seems to be progressing in his recovery. "Kulikov has now skated two days with some physicality and now been skating for seven days," Buffalo coach Dan Bylsma said. "Hopefully, that means we’ll see him in practice soon – in the next week hopefully." We'll keep you updated on Kulikov's stauts.

Dmitry Kulikov (back) will miss his fifth consecutive game on Saturday night.

He won't be in the lineup when the Sabres take on the Penguins on Saturday night. Kulikov was hurt during a preseason game against Toronto, when he fell awkwardly into the door of the Leafs' bench. He's been able to play since then, but hasn't felt comfortable lately. Kulikov is considered day-to-day at this point.

Dmitry Kulikov will take on the Florida Panthers for the first time since they traded him last summer.

Kulikov spent the first seven years of his career as a Panther, but he insists he's moved on. "A lot of friends, a lot of good relationships that I built there," Kulikov said. Dmitry Kulikov is slated to get more ice time after he was moved to a pairing with Zach Bogosian on Monday at practice.

"I want Kulikov on the ice in more situations and more opportunities," coach Dan Byslma said. "The pairing of Josh Gorges and Risto, while it's not together 100 percent of the time during the last four games, it's been strong as the matchup pairing. It's getting Dmitry more ice time. He needs it, deserves it and we need him to have it." Kulikov hasn't played less than 19 minutes in three games this season and he topped 21 minutes last Thursday. He is still looking for his first point with the Sabres.

Dmitry Kulikov will make his Sabres debut on Sunday against the Oilers.

The veteran defender has been a steady supplier of tough guy stats during his time with Florida. In 74 games last season he posted 17 points, with 51 PIMs, 121 hits and 122 blocks, which makes him a nice spot-starter if you're in need of such skills to end the week.
Oct 16 - 5:16 PM

There is a chance that Dmitry Kulikov will be able to play Sunday evening against the Oilers.

Kulikov, who missed The Sabres' 4-1 loss to the Canadiens Thursday night, has been nursing a back injury but felt much better the last two days. The versatile defenseman took a regular shift at practices on Friday and Saturday and there is a decent chance he will be able to suit up against Edmonton on Sunday. If you need him, take a chance and activate him prior to the 5:00 pm ET start time.
