Dmitry Kulikov (knee) is expected to resume skating Friday, but he won't suit up against the New York Islanders.

He sat out Tuesday's game with a knee injury and he isn't ready to return to the lineup yet. "He's looking pretty good, things are going in the right direction," coach Gerard Gallant said. "I don't think it's too serious. He's going good. [Thursday] was a good off-ice day for him." Kulikov could be available during next week's road trip.

Dmitry Kulikov (knee) is expected to miss the next two home games at the very least.

He didn't have to use crutches and he didn't appear to limping, which has led the Panthers to believe that his injury isn't serious. "It's never a good time to get hurt, but he was probably playing the best hockey of his career, especially defensively. He was playing solid and responsibly," coach Gerard Gallant said. "Hopefully, we'll get him back sooner than later and he'll be ready to go back to his game." Kulikov was also just starting to get his offensive game going with three assists in his last two games when he got hurt. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Dmitry Kulikov has been playing well this season alongside Willie Mitchell.

"I look up to Willie," Kulikov said. "He's been playing in the league for a long time and knows how to play defensively. I look at how he does things that I like and just try to copy him and do the same things. He knows where I am and I know where he is, so I can expect him to be there which makes it easier for me to play." The duo has formed the Panhers' shutdown tandem and they have done a good job. The top pair has been on the ice for just one even-strength goal against in the first six games of the season. Kulikov is earning the trust of his new coaches and he's averaging 24 minutes of ice time per game. Now, he just needs to get his offensive game sorted, which should come if his defensive efforts remain strong.

Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov left tonight's game with a lower-body injury.

There's no word yet on any specifics related to the injury. Kulikov is a big part of what they're trying to rebuild in in Florida, so hopefully for their sake, the new three-year, $13 million investment won't begin on the shelf. The 23-year-old is coming off a disappointing season in which he recorded just 19 points.
