Simon Despres has finally been diagnosed with a concussion.
Despres suffered the injury on October 16 so it has taken four weeks for the Ducks to come out and say the defenseman was concussed. The good news is that Despres skated on his own for the first time Saturday. "Today was the first step towards getting back into the lineup," GM Bob Murray said. "He’s not there yet and needs some more time. We are looking at another one-to-two weeks before he’s cleared for physical contact." Stay patient if Despres is on your roster. Nov 15 - 4:22 AM

Simon Despres (upper body) still isn't feeling "quite right."

Despres left Friday's game against Colorado after absorbing a high hit from Tyson Barrie. It's not clear if he has a concussion or not, but if he's still feeling off, then that's a discouraging sign.
Oct 21 - 8:19 AM

The Anaheim Ducks have put Simon Despres on injured reserve.

Despres left Friday's game against Colorado after Tyson Barrie charged into him in the second period. Barrie will have a phone hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety today.
Oct 17 - 5:30 PM

According to head coach Bruce Boudreau, Simon Depres didn't practice on Saturday because he "felt off".

Despres was knocked out the game after being on the receiving end of a Tyson Barrie charge on Friday night. The NHL already said that Barrie will have a disciplinary hearing for the hit. Despres should be considered day-to-day at this point.
Oct 17 - 3:24 PM

There was no update after the game on the status of Simon Despres (upper body).

Despres was injured in the second period Friday and did not return. Consider the defenseman day-to-day for now.
Oct 17 - 5:37 AM

Simon Despres left the Friday's tilt with Colorado with an upper body injury.

Despres saw just 9:25 of action, including a minute on the kill, without making an impact on the score sheet. We'll keep you posted on his prognosis.
Oct 17 - 12:30 AM

Simon Despres has signed a five-year, $18.5 million contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks.

Despres was set to become a restricted free agent this summer. He has three goals, 23 points, and 86 penalty minutes in 75 contests last season between his time in Pittsburgh and with the Ducks. He's a decent bet to put up similar numbers in 2015-16 and at the age of 24, it wouldn't be shocking to see him take a modest step forward.
Oct 9 - 2:39 PM

Simon Despres is projected to start this season as a top-four defenseman.

Barring a trade, this will be his first season with a single team since he made his NHL debut. Until 2014-15, he had always spent at least part of the campaign in the AHL and then last season he spent time with both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Ducks. He's developed chemistry with Cam Fowler in Anaheim though, making it probable that he will stick with the team.
Oct 6 - 8:21 AM

Simon Despres (undisclosed) skated on his own on Friday.

It was the third straight day that Despres missed practicing with the Ducks but his first back on skates. Despres is not expected to miss any time once the regular season begins as coach Bruce Boudreau stated that the defenseman's ailment is 'very short term'. Despres should see some second power play time this season and could be worth a pick in deep fantasy pools right at the end as he is a sixth blueliner in 14 team leagues at best.
Oct 3 - 5:27 AM

Simon Despres has been kept off the ice for two straight days.

Despres is just a bit banged up, according to Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau, and would be able to play if needed. We'll err on the side of caution and list him as day-to-day, but based on the information provided he sounds very probable for the season opener.
Oct 2 - 10:31 AM

Simon Despres has been a pleasant surprise on the Ducks blueline since his trade from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline.

Despres had the winner on Thursday but his solid play since the March 2 trade has impressed his teammates. "When you don’t expect much from a guy because you didn’t know the guy, it was a great surprise for everybody," fellow defenseman Francois Beauchemin said. "He was the steal of the deadline, that’s for sure. In the last few years I don’t know if there’s a guy that was traded at the deadline that’s made such a big impact on a team as he did. It was just a great move by Murph (GM Bob Murray)."
May 23 - 6:06 AM

Simon Despres scored the game-winning goal in Anaheim's 2-1 victory over Chicago Thursday night.

"I was surprised it went in actually," Despres said. "It just stayed on the ice. I just wanted to get it on net, quick release. I was definitely happy it went in." It was his first goal of the 2015 playoffs. He also has six assists in 12 games though, which is great given that he's more of a defensive defenseman.
May 22 - 9:31 AM

Simon Despres picked up two assists on Tuesday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Calgary.

He had a hand in goals by Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey. Despres has posted four of his five helpers this postseason in his last four appearances. He has amassed 24 hits in seven playoff matches, while averaging 18:35 of ice time per game.
May 6 - 10:07 AM

Simon Despres took Saturday off practice as a maintenance day.

The defenseman is expected to practice on Monday as the Ducks will not practice Sunday. Despres has been a nice surprise since Anaheim dealt for him at the deadline. He is worth looking at in deep drafts next season as a 5-6 defenseman. The Ducks will take on the Calgary Flames in one Western Conference semi-final matchup.
Apr 26 - 6:10 AM

Simon Despres has been a pleasant surprise for the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks acquired Despres from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline and his steady play in the first round of the playoffs surprised many as he was solid defensively against Winnipeg and chipped in with a couple of assists in four games. "The first game we got him, he was much better than I thought he was," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I was thinking we were getting a raw, fairly green guy. And he came right in and had composure. Was physical. Did all the right things. He did it again in the series, really well. I was wondering near the end of the season whether he was coming down to earth a little bit. He was really good against a team that we really needed him to be good against." The former first round pick in 2009 is only 23 and could be a big part of the Ducks blueline for many years to come.
