Simon Despres (concussion) might be sidelined for a very long time.
"And it’s one that my whole goal is to hopefully make it so that Simon in the end of all this lives a happy, healthy normal life and it’s going to take some time before we get to that point," Ducks GM Bob Murray said. Despres was plagued by concussion problems during the 2015-16 campaign and it's believed that his current issue is a recurrence of that. He's in the first season of a five-year, $18.5 million deal. The Anaheim Ducks have placed Simon Despres (upper body) on LTIR.

The move alleviates $3.7M of cap hit off the books, but it's also a terrible sign for Despres' health. He's believed to be dealing with a concussion, and clearly is not expected back any time soon.

Simon Despres (upper body) is back in Anaheim while his teammates prepare for a game in Philadelphia on Thursday.

That's the last game of Anaheim's season-opening five-game road trip though, so Despres and the Ducks won't be separated for much longer. That being said, it's not clear when Despres will be able to return to the Ducks' lineup. While it's not confirmed, it's believed that Despres is dealing with concussion symptoms.

Simon Despres (upper body) is believed to be dealing with concussion symptoms again.

He missed half of the 2015-16 season because of concussion issues and visited with a specialist Friday after he wasn't feeling right. Despres missed the third period of Thursday's game due to an "upper-body injury."
Oct 15 - 10:28 AM

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that Simon Despres is day-to-day with an upper body injury, and will see a specialist.

GM Bob Murray sounded despondent over Despres' injury status stating, "Something’s wrong here and we've got to get to the bottom of it here." The young veteran defender played just 32 games last season due to a concussion. While the Ducks haven't indicated the type of his latest ailment, Murray made sure to state Despres was neither hit nor fell. We'll keep you posted as the story develops.
Oct 14 - 7:01 PM

Defenseman Simon Despres is looking to remain healthy this season as he had a couple of concussions in 2015-16.

Despres was concussed in October after a hit by Tyson Barrie in the fifth game of the season and sat out 42 games at the time. The symptoms returned in late March after a game in Montreal when he was hit again. "Well, I was sensitive to light," Despres said. "Sensitive to noise. More emotional. I had headaches. Dizziness. Close to fainting. Stuff like that. ... It was a challenge. It was dangerous." Despres is currently healthy and has changed his number from 24 to 6 in hopes of a new start. He had only four points in 32 games last season so we definitely do not recommend the veteran defenseman in fantasy pools.
