Jacob Josefson is primed to take over as the Devils' top center this season.
The Devils were hoping in the off-season that Josefson would take on a bigger role and apparently he has. "We've talked about him almost every day and the answer has been repetitive but it's been true. You can see that in his play. He's consistent, he has a real strong work ethic, he's playing to his foundation as a player with speed," coach John Hynes said. "His competitive level is high, so now you start to see his skill come out because he's competing and he's consistent. He's done it every day. We didn't know him as management and coaches coming in. He's a guy who's earned everything he's gotten and it is nice to be able to see him do it on a consistent, repetitive basis and that's why he's had some success here in the preseason." Look for a 45-50 point season from Josefson and draft him accordingly. Oct 4 - 6:50 AM

The Devils hope that Jacob Josefson can take on a larger role with the team next season.

The drafting of center Pavel Zacha and giving Josefson an opportunity were contributing factors in New Jersey deciding to let Scott Gomez go to free agency. Josefson recorded just six goals and 11 points in 62 games last season, while averaging 12:25 of playing time per match.
Jun 29 - 11:36 AM

Jacob Josefson will join Team Sweden in the World Championships.

Josefson had six goals and 11 points in 62 games in 2014-15. The 24-year-old now has 180 games worth of NHL experience under his belt. This will be the first time he's competed in the Worlds, although he did previously compete in the world junior championships.
Apr 17 - 11:02 AM

Jacob Josefson collected three penalties in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

Josefson raised his season's penalty minutes total by 25% after taking a hooking, delay of game, and holding penalties. Josefson also contributed two giveaways across his 11:28 of ice time, including over three minutes spent on special teams. His initial penalty led directly to the Rangers' lone power play goal on the evening, however. Josefson now has 11 points and 24 PIMs in 60 games this season.
Apr 7 - 10:25 PM

Jacob Josefson scored a goal in a 2-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Josefson's marker was the game-winner, which makes this just the second time in 168 career games that he's been credited with the deciding goal. He has five goals and 10 points in 50 contests in 2014-15.
Mar 18 - 9:29 AM

Jacob Josefson is enjoying himself playing hockey again.

Josefson was a healthy scratch 44 times last season under Peter DeBoer but re-signed anyway with the Devils rather than going back to Europe. Josefson has found that under new co-coach Adam Oates, hockey is fun again. "I think a guy like Oatsie has helped me a lot just by talking to me and showing me video clips. He gives me advice that can be useful," Josefson said. "I think there are some more levels I can reach. Obviously I feel good about my game lately." Josefson has only 9 points this season but that is far better than the three he had last season.
Mar 15 - 8:54 AM

Jacob Josefson scored his third goal of the season on Saturday.

Josefson has only six points in 33 games this season so his fantasy value is nil. Considering he was drafted in the first round in 2009, he has been a major disappointment thus far.
Feb 8 - 9:37 AM

Jacob Josefson had a goal and an assist in Monday's 5-2 win against San Jose.

Josefson was inserted into the Devils' lineup for the first time since Dec. 27. This doesn't change the fact that he has little to no fantasy value in standard leagues, but his productive night might be enough to keep him in the lineup for Wednesday's contest.
Jan 20 - 9:24 AM

Jacob Josefson will be back in the Devils lineup Monday night versus the Sharks.

Josefson will tag in for Joe Whitney Monday night and center Tim Sestito and Jordin Tootoo on the fourth line. The 23-year-old has just a goal and two assists in 26 games played and will continue to bounce around the lineup until the Devils coaches find a lineup that works.
Jan 19 - 8:38 PM

Jacob Josefson will be a healthy scratch Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Josefson hasn't seen game action since December 27th and has only played in 26 games this season, scoring a gaol and two assists. The Devils seem content going with a more physical fourth line of Joe Whitney, Tom Sestito, and Jordin Tootoo, so Josefson will continue to ride the pine.
Jan 14 - 7:23 PM

Jacob Josefson (illness) has been taken off of the injured reserve list.

Josefson will be kept out of Friday's game even though he's healthy enough to play. He has three points and 12 penalty minutes in 26 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 9 - 5:01 PM

Jacob Josefson (illness) is healthy enough to play, but he remains on injured reserve.

"We have a lot of bodies here and the team has been winning, so I just have to stick with it and wait for my chance and I'll be ready when it comes," Josefson said. He has missed the last five games with an illness and New Jersey has posted two straight wins.
Jan 8 - 5:54 PM

Jacob Josefson (illness) traveled to Boston and he's expected to be ready to play Thursday.

He's listed on injured reserve so the Devils have to make a roster move to activate him. "We'll see how (Josefson) is," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "We can make that move if necessary, but you keep your options open." Eric Gelinas (illness) might be moved to IR or New Jersey could demote Tim Sestito.
Jan 7 - 5:38 PM

Jacob Josefson (illness) has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Josefson missed Monday's game due to the disease. He'll be sidelined for at least three more contests. Devils GM/interim coach Lou Lamoriello said that the team has no indication that Josefson has the mumps, but the Devils appear to be erring on the side of caution. They have been hit hard by the mumps lately, so it wouldn't be shocking if that's what Josefson is dealing with.
Tue, Dec 30, 2014 05:28:00 PM

Jacob Josefson didn't attend Sunday's practice due to an illness.

Josefson also missed Monday's morning skate. GM Lou Lamoriello said on Sunday that it's too early to test him for the mumps, which has plagued the Devils in recent days. The Devils have summoned Stefan Matteau and Joe Whitney and one of them is projected to temporarily assume Josefson's fourth line role.
