Montreal GM Marc Bergevin said that Zack Kassian showed a "lack of character" when he was involved in a car crash Sunday morning.

"I don't have all the information, but it's disappointing to say the least," said Bergevin. "I addressed the whole team this morning. We are professional and we have to behave like professionals. You have to be respectful and you're lucky to be a hockey player. I'm a firm believer in character and that's really a lack of character and judgement on his part." Kassian suffered a broken foot and a broken nose in the accident, which will sidelined him for the start of the regular season. It's unclear how long he will be out of action. The Canadiens may decide to suspend Kassian or just place him on injured reserve.

Zack Kassian was taken to hospital on Sunday morning after he was involved in a car accident.

A truck being driven by a 20-year-old women hit a tree in a Montreal suburb. Kassian was a passenger in the truck. A Canadiens official confirmed the news and mentioned that Kassian was being treated for "minor injuries". "(Kassian) was all bloodied up and stuff. He was in a daze," said Steve Petrenko, a resident on the street where the accident took place. "He had a hard time walking, and he almost took a fall."

Zack Kassian had seven penalty minutes in Saturday's 1-0 win over Toronto.

Kassian was traded to Montreal in an off-season move that saw Brandon Prust head to Vancouver. The power forward has the ability to be a big power forward but the knock against him is that he lacks consistency and isn't always engaged in the play. The 24-year-old dropped the gloves with Mark Fraser in the first period and he picked up a two minute roughing penalty in the third. Kassian has a lot to prove this season. The Canadiens lack size and will be counting on him to bring a physical element to their lineup.
Sep 27 - 8:12 AM

Zack Kassian scored his first goal as a member of the Montreal Canadiens in Friday's 5-1 loss to Chicago.

It's just a preseason game, but overall it was an ugly performance from the Canadiens. Kassian was acquired from Vancouver for Brandon Prust over the summer. Kassian offers more fantasy upside than Prust but he needs to prove that he can be more consistent over an 82-game season. In an interview with TSN's Bob McKenzie, Canadiens' General Manager Marc Bergevin said he expects Kasssian to score between 15 and 18 goals this season. Those seem like pretty reasonable expectations for a player who scored 10 goals in 42 games last season.
Sep 25 - 10:14 PM

Zack Kassian openly admits that he had more to give than he did with the Vancouver Canucks and aims for more consistency in Montreal.

"I need to find consistency," Kassian told TSN. "Honestly, after spending 3 1/2 years, four years in the League I know what I have to do to be the player I need to be. This summer I'm really taking strides forward. Coming into next year I want to have a big year." Kassian, 24, had 10 goals and 16 points in 42 games for the Canucks last season. In 2013-14 he set career-highs with 14 goals and 29 points in 73 games. He's at the put up or shut stage of his career and it seems the Canucks lost patience with him. We'll see if a fresh start in Montreal changes his fate.

Mar 19 - 6:44 PM

It is being reported that Zack Kassian has tightness in his back and was held out of Tuesday's game as a precaution.
