Zack Kassian isn't too focused on his point total.
Kassian has two points in his last three games after going on a 15 contest scoring drought. "At the end of the day, our job is to defend well and play hard and create energy. The points are a bonus," Kassian said. "When we do chip in offensively, it’s a bonus and it helps the team, but if at the end of the night if we don’t get a goal … that’s not what we look at. Were we physical? Were we hard to play against? Did we create energy? Did we get on the forecheck? Those are the things on a night to night basis that we need to be good at." Kassian does have some offensive potential, but if you're taking him in a standard fantasy league then odds are you're looking at his PIM. He has six points and 34 penalty minutes in 24 contests this season. Dec 6 - 10:31 AM

Date:

Zack Kassian will tag in for Jesse Puljujarvi against the Jets on Thursday.

The veteran winger has posted four points with 27 PIMs an 41 hits in 21 games this season, which is quite beefy if you're in the right pool. He'll skate with Mark Letestu and Patrick Maroon.
Dec 1 - 7:48 PM

Zack Kassian has declared himself "100%" healed up from his lower body injury.

The Oilers don't play until Sunday against the Rangers, so his playtime remains to be seen. But he did skate with Ryan Nugent-Hopkisn and Benoit Pouliot today at practice. Expect the bruiser to return.
Nov 12 - 4:36 PM

Zack Kassian (LBI) returned to practice on Saturday.

He skated with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Benoit Pouliot, and looks to be making real progress towards returning. Edmonton plays five times over the next week, including Sunday against the Rangers. He joins them for the roadie trip to California, expect the bruising winger to return.
Nov 12 - 4:25 PM

Zack Kassian (lower body) won't play Tuesday night.

He will miss his second game in a row with a lower-body injury. Kassian didn't skate in the morning and should be considered day-to-day for now.
Nov 8 - 4:41 PM

Zack Kassian is considered day-to-day after suffering a lower body injury in Saturday's match with the Islanders, he will not play Sunday versus Detroit.

He's posted two goals and four points with 14 PIMs and 30 hits through a dozen games this season. Pretty hefty for anyone in a reverse league.
Nov 6 - 3:31 PM

Zack Kassian had a five minute fighting major for the second game in a row.

Kassian started the season with just a minor in his first seven games but is now picking up the minutes. He has two goals and four points so he is a valuable contributor in pools that use penalty minutes as a category.
Oct 31 - 8:14 AM

Zack Kassian picked up his second goal of the season in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Jets in the Heritage Classic.

Kassian wasted no time snapping off the dagger in the Jets after Benoit Pouliot gave him a perfect behind-the-back dish. The revitalized young veteran now has four points in six games thus far.
Oct 23 - 7:59 PM

Zack Kassian found the back of the net in Edmonton's 7-4 victory against Calgary Wednesday night.

Kassian also recorded three hits and two penalty minutes. He'll provide Edmonton with some grit, but his offensive contributions will likely be limited. He had three goals and eight points in 36 games last season, but also recorded 114 PIM.
Oct 13 - 10:47 AM

Zack Kassian has impressed coach Todd McLellan with his off-season preparations.

"I'm very impressed with Zack's approach in life, in general," said McLellan. "We've talked about the Oilers and hockey but from where Zack was, bottoming out (as a Montreal Canadiens' winger) with his lifestyle (going into the NHL's Substance Abuse program) and to see where he his with his commitment to conditioning and becoming healthy. That can rub off on other players." Kassian is looking trimmer and the Oilers' bench boss is excited to see what he can do at training camp.
Jul 28 - 5:03 PM

Zack Kassian has signed a $1.5 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton acquired Kassian from Montreal on Dec. 28 in exchange for Ben Scrivens. Kassian went on to record three goals, eight points, and 114 penalty minutes in 36 contests. He's expected to be used primarily as a bottom-six forward, but he might occasionally see minutes on the first or second line.
May 20 - 8:59 AM

Zack Kassian and the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly closing in on a one-year contract extension.

Kassian was acquired from Montreal on Dec. 28 in exchange for Ben Scrivens. After the trade, Kassian had three goals, five assists, and 114 penalty minutes in 36 contests with Edmonton. He's coming off a two-year, $3.5 million contract.
May 19 - 8:58 AM

Zack Kassian played just under 10 minutes during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Sharks, but collected 24 PIMs in the process.

Kassian was assessed a boarding penalty for checking Dylan DeMelo from behind. To say the least, Kassian disagreed with the call so profusely that the refs felt appropriate to add on a misconduct and a game misconduct - tossing him from the game. This is all on top of his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty taken earlier. He now has 112 PIMs in just 31 games with Edmonton thus far.
Mar 25 - 1:36 AM

Make it five points in 16 games for Zack Kassian with the Oilers.

To put that into perspective, Kassian has just 70 points in 213 career games with Buffalo, Vancouver, and now Edmonton. His goal was a pretty one during Thursday's 2-1 loss to LA, as he dipped a shoulder to force Luke Schenn down to block the shot, then found Jonathan Quick's arm pit from beyond the circles.
Feb 26 - 1:55 AM

Zack Kassian might be on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Taylor Hall on Thursday.

This isn't the first time Kassian has been considered as a replacement for Hall and Draisaitl's current linemate, Teddy Purcell. In fact, this might have happened last week if not for the fact that Kassian missed time due to the flu. This change would be a big opportunity for Kassian.
