Edmonton acquired Kassian from Montreal on Dec. 28 in exchange for Ben Scrivens. Kassian went on to record three goals, eight points, and 114 penalty minutes in 36 contests. Zack Kassian and the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly closing in on a one-year contract extension.

Kassian was acquired from Montreal on Dec. 28 in exchange for Ben Scrivens. After the trade, Kassian had three goals, five assists, and 114 penalty minutes in 36 contests with Edmonton. He's coming off a two-year, $3.5 million contract.
May 19 - 8:58 AM

Zack Kassian played just under 10 minutes during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Sharks, but collected 24 PIMs in the process.

Kassian was assessed a boarding penalty for checking Dylan DeMelo from behind. To say the least, Kassian disagreed with the call so profusely that the refs felt appropriate to add on a misconduct and a game misconduct - tossing him from the game. This is all on top of his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty taken earlier. He now has 112 PIMs in just 31 games with Edmonton thus far.

Make it five points in 16 games for Zack Kassian with the Oilers.

To put that into perspective, Kassian has just 70 points in 213 career games with Buffalo, Vancouver, and now Edmonton. His goal was a pretty one during Thursday's 2-1 loss to LA, as he dipped a shoulder to force Luke Schenn down to block the shot, then found Jonathan Quick's arm pit from beyond the circles.
Feb 26 - 1:55 AM

Zack Kassian might be on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Taylor Hall on Thursday.

This isn't the first time Kassian has been considered as a replacement for Hall and Draisaitl's current linemate, Teddy Purcell. In fact, this might have happened last week if not for the fact that Kassian missed time due to the flu. This change would be a big opportunity for Kassian.
Feb 25 - 10:59 AM

After missing the last two games with the flu, Zack Kassian will return to Edmonton's lineup Saturday night against Colorado.

"I want to get back in and help our line be a physical line, get in on the forecheck, create space and have some [offensive] zone time," Kassian told Derek Van Diest. "We need to get good cycles going and get shots on net, but at the same time, we need to be good defensively." In 13 games with the Oilers the bruising forward has posted four points, 42 hits, and 45 PIMs. Wow.
Feb 20 - 9:07 PM

Zack Kassian (illness) has been ruled out of Thursday's game.

"He ate breakfast this morning, which was a good sign," said Oilers coach Todd McLellan. "He skated for the first time and he won’t be in the lineup tonight. It’s not fair to put him in that situation. His energy level is low, but we think he’s come out of it and he’ll be good to play on Saturday." There was some speculation that Kassian might be on a line with Connor McDavid and Jordan Eberle if he was healthy. That makes the fact that he's unavailable all the more frustrating, but it's something to keep an eye on going forward.
Feb 18 - 5:07 PM

Zack Kassian didn't practice on Wednesday due to an illness.

Consider Kassian day-to-day as a result. He has two goals and four points in 13 games this season.
Feb 17 - 1:28 PM

Zack Kassian played just 9:41 in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Islanders, but managed to rack up 21 in PIMs.

They all came in the middle frame. Kassian took a ho-hum roughing minor mid way through the period, but wasted no time picking put the rest not 30 seconds after being released. Kassian fought Brian Strait and had a roughing, cross-check, and game misconduct tacked as well.
Feb 7 - 6:19 PM

Zack Kassian has been summoned from the minors.

He has two points and 18 penalty minutes in six games with Edmonton.
Feb 1 - 2:11 PM

The Edmonton Oilers have reassigned Zack Kassian to AHL Bakersfield.

With a nine day break between now and their next game on Feb. 2nd against Columbus, Edmonton will save a bit of money on the cap and get Kassian some extra playing time. Through six games with Edmonton thus far, the veteran forward has posted two points with 18 PIMs and 24 hits.
Jan 24 - 1:50 PM

Zack Kassian has worked out nicely with the Edmonton Oilers thus far.

Kassian was given the opportunity to get a fresh start in Edmonton after being dealt by Montreal. "Zack is a pretty honest player, that’s the one thing I’ve figured out in his three or four games with us," said Oilers coach Todd McLellan. "He wants to do things well, he wants to do thing right. His power game, his ability to power through people is important. It was nice to see him get rewarded with a goal (Tuesday). As time goes on here, I can see myself and the coaching staff trusting him more and more." Kassian has averaged 15:17 minutes per contest in Edmonton thus far and he might end up building on that. Don't expect him to be one of the Oilers' scoring leaders, but Kassian can certainly contribute in that regard in addition to his gritty work.
Jan 21 - 11:02 AM

Zack Kassian scored a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 24-year-old tied the game at one in the first period and added an assist on Leon Draisailt's second period goal. Kassian has had to deal with a lot of off-ice issues this season, but he seems to have found a home in Edmonton. These were his first two points of '15-16.
Jan 19 - 11:01 PM

Zack Kassian made his Oilers debut on Thursday.

Kassian had a shot on goal and four hits in 14:23 minutes of ice time. He's expected to be a physical presence on the ice and in his first contest with Edmonton, he delivered on that.
Jan 15 - 11:13 AM

Zack Kassian will be in the lineup for Thursday's game against the San Jose Sharks.

Kassian was recalled from the minors on Wednesday, but only today did coach Todd McLellan admit he would play. The 24-year-old had 10 goals and 16 points in 42 games in 2014-15 with Vancouver.
