De Haan left Saturday's game due to the ailment and didn't play Sunday. There's a good chance that he won't return before the season's over.
Apr 7 - 10:36 AM

Defenseman Calvin De Haan suffered an upper body injury in the third period and did not return.

Look for De Haan to miss some time as the Islanders recalled Scott Mayfield after the game. The blueliner has three goals and 16 points in 51 games this season. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 6 - 8:30 AM

Islanders defenseman Calvin De Haan netted a goal for the Islanders in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Calgary.

The goal was just the second in the career of the young blueliner and was just his second point in nine games. Thomas Hickey was the other Islanders' scorer in the loss.

Calvin De Haan had two assists on Sunday.

De Haan was recalled by the Islanders at the end of November and now has a goal and six points in 21 games with a minus-five rating. The former 12th overall pick in the 2009 Draft had a couple of surgeries last season to repair a wonky shoulder and was expected to spend all season in the AHL but he has impressed the Islanders with his play. He has little fantasy value at this time.
Jan 13 - 8:08 AM

Calvin De Haan has exceeded the Islanders' expectations this season.

De Haan was limited to just three AHL contests in 2012-13 because of shoulder problems that required two surgeries. Because of that, he was expected to spend this season in the minors to just focus on his development. Instead, he's not only playing for the Islanders, but he's averaging 19:49 minutes per contest. "You can see how he's improved every game," Travis Hamonic said. "We have really good communication and he's asking questions about how to play certain guys. It's neat to see that happening right in front of you." In the long run he might have some fantasy value too, but for now he doesn't do nearly enough offensively.
Jan 10 - 10:04 AM

Calvin De Haan had four hits and two shots on goal in 20:07 minutes of action in his seasonal debut Saturday.

De Haan was selected 12th overall in the 2009 Draft but Saturday was only his second NHL game as he has been injury-prone with shoulder issues. "I thought he was one of our top defenseman out there tonight," coach Jack Capuano said. "He is as advertised. He's poised, good first pass, he makes good decision. I thought his gap was good, good stick. I really liked his game." He does not have any fantasy value at this time.

Calvin de Haan, summoned from AHL Bridgeport by the New York Islanders on Thursday to give their struggling defense a shot in the arm, did not dress for the team`s game against Detroit Friday.

Isles coach Jack Capuano said he wants the young player, who has overcome two serious shoulder injuries, to have some practices with the Islanders. "It's only fair to him," Capuano said.

Calvin De Haan is one of four Islanders who are likely battling for one roster spot on the team's blueline.

The Isles' 2009 first-round pick is likely comepting against Radek Martinek, Matt Donovan and Aaron Ness for the last spot in the team's defense corps. We like De Haan's chances. Keep an eye on him this September.
