According to a team source, Calvin de Haan will have season-ending surgery on his shoulder.

It is not clear if that means de Haan would miss the playoffs as well, in the event the Islanders qualify. It's a tough break for the Islanders, as de Haan is a very underrated defenseman. If he is on your squad, we suggest you cut him.

Calvin de Haan (upper body) reportedly might be out for the remainder of the regular season.

De Haan was placed on the injured reserve list on Monday with what's believed to be a shoulder injury. It's reportedly possible that he'll end up having surgery and that would be what sidelines him until the playoffs. Either way, he's expected to miss an extended period of time, which will make things more difficult for the Islanders as they've been counting on him to log an average of 18:45 minutes per game.

Calvin de Haan (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve.

The Islanders defender hasn't played since Dec. 16 because of an upper-body injury. New York took Thomas Hickey off injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Calvin de Haan might have sustained an unspecified injury during Saturday's contest.

de Haan appeared to get hurt while breaking up a rush during the overtime period. The Islanders didn't have an update on his status Sunday, but he will be evaluated on Monday. We'll err on the side of caution and list him as day-to-day until more information is available.

Calvin de Haan recorded an assist in the Islanders' 3-2 loss to Anaheim on Wednesday.

Calvin de Haan was hoping to sign a long-term contract with the New York Islanders over the summer, but ultimately ended up with a one-year, $3.3 million deal.

"I got a one-year deal that wasn’t really up to me," de Haan said. "I love being here, it’s a great organization, we get treated well. We’ll see what happens throughout the season. It’s too early to tell about the future, but I’m here for another year and I’m happy about that." Islanders GM Garth Snow noted cap considerations when explaining why the team ultimately just renewed de Haan for another season rather than locking him up. de Haan, who had five goals and 25 points in 82 games last season, can become an unrestricted free agent this summer unless the Islanders re-sign him.

Calvin de Haan and the New York Islanders have agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.3 million.

The agreement was made before his scheduled arbitration hearing on Wednesday. De Haan had his best offensive season in 2016-17 with five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 82 games. He also ranked fourth in the NHL with 190 blocked shots. "Calvin is a home-grown product of the organization and has developed into one of our top defensemen during his time with the organization," GM Garth Snow said. "He plays important minutes for our club and we're excited to have him back for one more year." The 26-year-old defender will be eligible for unrestricted free agency at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The Islanders submitted an offer of $1.95 million, while de Haan is asking for $5 million. If they can't bridge the gap then the two sides will have an arbitration hearing on Wednesday.

Calvin de Haan was not protected on Sunday but he is likely to remain a New York Islander.

The reason is that a deal is likely in place between Vegas and the Isles to send the Golden Knights the 15th overall pick in exchange for the expansionists not selecting de Haan, Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson from the Islanders non-protected list. Calvin de Haan is a restricted free agent and is coming into his own after being the 12th overall pick in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Calvin de Haan picked up a couple of assists in a 6-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

de Haan has a respectable 23 points in 76 games this season but is far off the offensive numbers the Islanders were hoping to get when they made him the 12th overall pick during the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. His assists came on goals by Cal Clutterbuck and Jason Chimera.
