The New York Islanders have signed Nick Leddy to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract extension.
In other words, Leddy will come with a $5.5 million annual cap hit, which is a big raise over his 2014-15 salary of $3.4 million. That's not a surprising increase though, given that Leddy has proven to be a very effective top-four defenseman with the Islanders and has been a big part of the team's breakout campaign. He has eight goals, 25 points, and a plus-12 rating in 61 contests. The Islanders acquired Leddy and Kent Simpson from the Chicago Blackhawks in October in exchange for T.J. Brennan, Ville Pokka, Anders Nilsson. Feb 24 - 12:08 PM

Nick Leddy led the way for the Isles in their convincing 5-2 win over the league-leading Predators on Thursday night with a goal and two assists.

The young blueliner was due for a haul with just one point in his past 12 games. Leddy assisted on the second and third goals of the night to give New York a 3-0 lead in the first period, then helped put the Preds' comeback to bed with an insurance goal in the third to make it 4-2. Leddy has 25 points in 59 games for the Isles.

Nick Leddy had a goal and an assist in a 7-4 victory over Philadelphia on Monday.

Leddy has seven goals and 21 points in 46 contests. His transition from the Blackhawks to Islanders has been seamless. It has certainly helped that both teams have excelled offensively during his time with them. Look for him to roughly maintain his point-per-game pace after the All-Star break.

Nick Leddy had an assist in the Islanders' 2-1 victory Thursday night.

Leddy has five goals and 11 points in 26 contests in 2014-15. He's capable of maintaining his current point-per-game pace, but we don't expect him to significantly improve on it.

Nick Leddy is thriving with the Islanders as he has five goals and nine points in 20 games.

Leddy was dealt from the Blackhawks just before the start of the season and has been a force offensively for the suddenly respectable Islanders who are second in the Metropolitan Division with 28 points in 20 games. Leddy had 31 points last season for Chicago but is getting a much better chance to showcase his talents on Long Island than he would with the Blackhawks as he always had Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook in front of him on the depth charts. If available in deeper leagues, grab Leddy.

The New York Islanders added to their Saturday bounty by acquiring Nick Leddy and goalie Kent Simpson for Kent Nilsson, T.J. Brennan and Ville Pokka.

Leddy, 23, managed 31 points in 82 games with the Blackhawks last season. One might think he's in for a dip, but with the Islanders' attacking system and at least the potential for a more robust role (especially as a PP quarterback), he might meet or even exceed those totals. His career-high was 37 points in 2011-12. Leddy's in a contract year so he shouldn't lack motivation, either.

The rumors surrounding a possible Nick Leddy trade continue to swirl.

The latest reports indicate that a) he's most likely fall to a team in the East, b) at least seven teams are interested and c) a trade seems likely with Chicago shouldering a cap burden. Stay tuned for word this weekend, though the Blackhawks have until Tuesday to make a move of some kind.

Nick Leddy sat out Friday's preseason loss to the New York Rangers.

Leddy has now been a scratch in back-to-back preseason games for Chicago, and rumors are swirling that the blue liner might be on his way out of Chicago. The Hawks need to dump about 2.2 million dollars in salary before the season starts. Trading Leddy and his 2.7 million dollar salary may be the best way for Chicago to get under the cap. If the Hawks refuse to part way with Leddy, they may look to trade defenseman Johnny Oduya.

The Chicago Blackhawks are over the cap by $2,216,795, and Nick Leddy is in the second year of a two-year deal that dings the cap at $2.7M. You do the math.

"As many as seven teams have expressed interest in Leddy," Nick Kypreos tweeted. He's still just 23-years-old and is entering his fifth season, he also hasn't missed a game since becoming a regular in 2011. "[Trade rumours] are always in the back of your mind, but I think for me, I just have to focus on my play," Leddy said. He's scored 68 points in his last two full-length seasons combined.

Nick Leddy could be a trade candidate for the Chicago Blackhawks, according to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman.

He has to be qualified at $3.4 million next season. The Blackhawks may let him walk to avoid having to pay him that kind of money or they could try to move him elsewhere for some kind of return. There were rumors that Chicago might deal Johnny Oduya to get under the cap, but he's an important shutdown defender.

Nick Leddy netted his first goal of the playoffs on Wednesday.

He scored on a pretty backhander on a breakaway to open the scoring in the first period. The marker was his first in 27 games, dating back to the regular season. Leddy has four points and 13 shots in 13 postseason contests. The Blackhawks ended up losing the match 6-2, so their series with the Kings is tied at 1-1 going to Los Angeles.

Updating a previous item, Nick Leddy will return to Chicago's lineup in Game 4 Friday night.

He was a healthy scratch in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Wild. Leddy, who is a Minnesota-native, will get to play in front of family and friends in his return from the press box.

Coach Joel Quenneville said that Nick Leddy will get another chance to play in Chicago's second-round series against Minnesota.

He was a healthy scratch for Game 3 and it hasn't been confirmed yet if he'll play in Game 4 on Friday night. "I still think he'll be a big part of this series and success going forward," Quenneville said. "We're going to need him here, and we want him to be a part of it." Leddy has two assists in eight 2014 postseason contests.

Nick Leddy was a healthy scratch Tuesday.

He was benched for most of Game 2 against Minnesota on Sunday. Sheldon Brookbank took his spot on the back end. Leddy played in 296 consecutive games, including 44 playoff matches, before being sent to the press box for Game 3. Coach Joel Quenneville said the decision was more about rewarding Brookbank than punishing Leddy.

Nick Leddy was benched in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Minnesota after he played the most of any player in the first period.

He logged just 46 seconds in the third period and he ended up with 13:48 of ice time. Leddy's defensive shortcomings placed him in coach Joel Quenneville's doghouse for parts of the playoffs last year as well.
