Kyle Palmieri missed half of the first period on Wednesday after being elbowed near his eye by Ryan Murray.
The incident, which occurred during a battle for the puck, didn't lead to a penalty. When Palmieri returned he was wearing a full face mask. He'll undergo X-Rays to rule out a facial fracture, but he wasn't dealing with any concussion symptoms. Unless his X-Rays tell otherwise, Palmieri appears to be healthy enough to play. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Edmonton would regain their lead shortly there afterwards, and eventually pull away for the 5-1 win. Still, it's been a banner season for Palmieri who is well on pace to set all many new personal bests. He now has 15 points in 18 games this season as well.

Palmieri has recorded at least a point in three of his last four games. He has three goals and five assists in 12 contests this season. That's a great start for a player that's never recorded more than 31 points in a single campaign. We don't have a problem believing that he'll establish a new career-high in 2015-16, but we also expect him to slow down as the season progresses.

Palmieri also scored a goal on Tuesday, bringing him up to seven points in 10 games this season. This is an example of a couple great games skewing the small sample size to make his season look better than it has been. Palmieri was shutdown after falling awkwardly into the boards in the second period. Fortunately, it seems taking him out of the game was a precautionary move. "He's just got a little minor tweak right now that we just didn't want to have him finish the game," Devils coach John Hynes said. "We just had him rest up there a little bit." Sep 26 - 9:44 PM

Kyle Palmieri and the New Jersey Devils worked on some 3-on-3 overtime drills on Saturday.

"It was different," he said. "It was real run and gun. It gives you an opportunity to have a lot of ice to work with. The first thing I noticed is when you get those chances you've got to do your best to put it in because as soon as that rebound comes out, it's going 2-on-1 the other way or a breakaway. I think it's going to be a good change, but it's definitely going to take a little time to kind of get a system down where you're going to make yourself more successful than not." Palmieri had 14 goals, including four game winners, and 29 points in 57 games with Anaheim last year. He's projected to get a chance as a top-six forward on the Devils this campaign. New Jersey will play their first preseason contest on Sunday against Boston.
