Kyle Palmieri and the New Jersey Devils are still negotiating a deal for the restricted free agent.

Palmieri had his best season for New Jersey in 2015-16 as he potted 30 goals and added 27 assists. While the two sides are apparently close as far as money goes, they have yet to agree on the length of the contract. Look for everything to be settled shortly. Palmieri is only 25 so his best seasons could still be ahead of him. Look for the winger to get 25-30 goals and 55-60 points next season.

Though Kyle Palmieri's contract negotiations remain in their early stages, it sounds like he anticipates the process going fairly smoothly.

The Devils are interested in signing Palmieri to a long-term contract this summer. He's eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer and possess arbitration rights, so even if the two sides can't work out a long-term deal, he's expected to still be back in 2016-17. "I think things will probably move quickly once both sides establish the parameters," Palmieri said. "The rest of it is banging out the details and getting everything right. I assume Ray is pretty busy leading up to the draft [June 24-25] and, as an RFA, there’s nothing that we really have to rush for, no dates we have to get something done by. Right now, it’s just testing it out and establishing a market and getting the right deal done." He broke out in 2015-16 with 30 goals and 57 points in 82 contests.

New Jersey would like to ink Kyle Palmieri to a long-term contract this summer.

Palmieri is set to become a restricted free agent this summer after completing a three-year, $4.4 million deal. He took a major leap forward in 2015-16 with 30 goals and 57 points in 82 contests, which will likely result in him getting a significant raise. "I look forward to signing him to a longer term contract, if that's possible, and if that's not possible he has arbitration rights," Devils GM Ray Shero said. "We're going to get a contract one way or another."
